generally speaking when it comes to any kind of service, you have the impossible trifecta: where…read moreyou can choose at most two of fast, high quality, and affordable. ecotech is, in my opinion, one of the companies that has the latter two down. the work they do here is good, on the basis that i haven't run into any problems yet. also, i feel like the service is fairly affordable, in that regular maintenance isn't too bad, and special servicing compares favorably to other places in the STL area that offer the same thing the slow-ness really comes out when it comes to scheduling an appointment. there's almost zero chance you'll be able to call them and get something scheduled in the same week - the fastest ive ever had it is like three weeks. so, i do think things here are kind of slow. maintenance itself also doesn't go super fast; for comparison you could call autozone, have an appointment on the same day, and get your servicing done in like an hour and a half however, it might just not be conceptually possible for a good place have fast service: if everyone wants to come here, inevitably it's gonna be hard to get a spot. in addition, car service might not be the kind of thing you want done quickly, even if it was possible. overall im happy with ecotech

Recently used Claudes for some emissions work and experienced the amount of business this small shop experiences. The one thing I HAVE ALWAYS DEMANDED FROM A MECHANIC IS JUST BE HONEST...CLAUDES FULFILLS THAT REQUEST. Claudes has always honest with me and even though co workers have changed...that fundamental honesty goes on. On my recent visit...the shop was very busy...walk in business comes in daily and the staff still finds time to be courteous and friendly still getting scheduled work done as well. I worked with DAKOTA and he was awesome...performed the work requested and explained in detail what he was doing if asked. The repair was quick when the shop got around to it. Be prepared to wait. They are so busy that they may have to schedule you in a week or more for needed repairs... But still take time with customers with an emergency situation. I have had dealer shops that treat you terrible, make you wait, charge outrageous hourly ($250 hr) and problems still comeback...and it is never their fault even though they advertise best equipment, best mechanics, best parts, fastest service. ​ CLAUDES WILL DO AS GOOD WORK, CHARGE LESS, BE RESPONSIVE TO YOUR REQUESTS, AND MOST OF ALL...BE HONEST WITH YOU. I've taken my cars to Rich's for 20 years. The first time, I took it in, suspecting that I needed…read morethe clutch replace. Rich called, said it needed to be replaced and gave me an estimate. I told him to go ahead but by the time I got off work, he'd left me a message telling me that once they'd gotten the car on the lift, they only needed to lube the linkage. Which was a significantly cheaper repair. I became a loyal customer at that moment. Fast forward 20 years, I moved to Dallas. I'm having clutch issues again and took it to a shop that was close by -- the estimate seemed really high (like 3x what I paid the last time a clutch needed to be replaced). I called Rich to get a copy of the warranty paperwork and I told him what the shop told me. He told me to call them back, get a breakdown of what needed to be repaired and then offered to take a look at it for me. Next to Riley's Pub, Rich's is the place I miss the most. He runs an honest shop, and is fairly priced. If you live in South City, you should never take your car anywhere else!

After exchanging pleasantries, I informed him that I would like a quote on a spark plug and coil. He told me he "needed to see what was really wrong with the car", which I thought was strange since I had told him what I thought the problem was. He took my key, and they took my car to the back for 30-45 minutes. After calling me back to the counter, he told me it would be about $700 to change the plug and coil. I respectfully said that far exceeded what I thought the project should cost and asked for me key back. He then informed me he was charging me $175 for the diagnostics test, claiming they "don't work for free." I felt this was garbage considering no work was done to my car. He then informed me he would be holding my car hostage until Rich arrived in a half hour. I proceeded to call the police. Rich and the police arrived within minutes of each other fortunate, and we went inside to talk. I gave of account of the story to the cops the way it happened. Don blatantly lied to both the owner and police and said he told me he was going to run the diagnostic and that I had verbally consented. The reason I'm telling the story at this point, is because the owner insinuated that I was lying because he's "been sitting behind this man for nine years listening to him talk to customers, and if you had asked him for just a quote, that's what he would have done" In the heat of the moment, I actually forgot I had recorded Don directly contradicting himself. In the video I took, I directly asked Don if I verbally consented to a diagnostics test, and he said "you gave me permission when you handed me the keys." I have attached the video below. My message to you Rich, you called me a liar in your shop and online. I understand why if you been working with the guy for nine years and had known me for less than nine minutes. But here is concrete proof that you guy is a scumbag liar. Your business won't make it another 35 years if you employ scumbags like this. As far as a fair compromise, I gave you $30, to waste two hours of my time and show you your front desk is a liar. I'm the best customer your shop will ever have.
