I had a couple of Thanksgiving week days off so I decided to take a drive to Cooperstown. I was last here 3 years ago and was looking forward to the trip. I was unhappy that my favorite place, The Cooper Inn, had closed during Covid and never reopened. After looking at a few places online, I made a reservation here. The 2 minute walk to the Hall Of Fame had a lot to do with that decision. There are definite positives and negatives. The positives are, including the short HOF walk: Large King Room With Reasonable Rates Dorm Style Refrigerator Friendly Staff Large Flat Screen TV With Many Available Channels Comfortable Bed Good Water Pressure In Bathroom Free Parking In Back Negatives: Major Floor Slant In Room Smallest Shower Stall I've Ever Seen. Literally No Room To Soap Up Chair At Desk On Last Legs. Armrests Almost Falling Off Slow Wi-Fi In the final analysis, this isn't a bad place. In fact, the old country inn feel is refreshing for a NYC boy. However, the casket-like shower stall would make me think twice about staying here again. Small menu of slightly okay food. We were a party of 7 and half were served food and half weren't until the first served were almost done. One ordered soup and asked for bread (any type) and was told they have no bread. No bread? Even the bun our burger was served on? Or the croutons on our salad? I was 3/4 of the way finished with my special, the balsamic chicken wrap, when I bit down on something hard, like small rock. We've been here before and it's been ok, but this wasn't great. Good food, excellent service. Stopped here blindly due to proximity to Hall of Fame. Pleasantly surprised. It is in a basement, but it was cutely decorated for Halloween. Ordered the pretzel sticks and as a Philadelphian, I approve. It was also one of the only experiences where I asked for a side of ranch and it was delivered with the plate instead of reminding the waiter for it. read more

This place is just ok. Took the kids after the hall of fame. Service was absolutely terrible. They get you in with a hot dog meal for $9.99 but charge for any toppings on your hot dog. Review of the Inn, not the restaurant. Here's the thing. It's a hotel in the heart of Cooperstown at an extremely affordable rate. So, it obviously has issues. It's extremely, extremely worn down. The floors have angles that make you wonder how the place is standing. Our took had two radiators which made all sorts of wonderful music (that's sarcasm) for us all night long. Our friends were "upgraded" to a king bed...which was two twins pushed together. They elected to stick with the original queen. The parking is very tight and I suspect if the place had been sold out that parking would not have been available for all. I will say, the staff were very nice and I think are trying to make the most of a not so wonderful situation. Additionally, it did seem the place was well cleaned. In the end, if you're willing to sacrifice accommodations for the luxury of being right in the middle of town, it's your own gamble. read more

Gosh... it looked so nice on the website. Room appeared clean. Bed was comfy. Caution: Very dated, very old carpet. Musty smell which, in the defense of all quaint buildings isn't unusual. Bright streetlights made sleep nearly impossible. We booked 2 nights and left after sunrise day 1. SO MUCH POTENTIAL.... But a major fail. Booked a last minute trip and spent one night at the Tunnicliff Inn. The location is perfect for visiting the Hall of Fame. The hotel is older which should be expected and seen as part of the experience. Our room was clean and the person working while we were there was accommodating and courteous. My wife and I stayed at the Tunnicliff Inn for 1 night in July 2012 during our visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame and it surpassed all of our expectations by a landslide. We arrived to the hotel a little early and wanted to see if we could check in early. The manager greeted us and told us we had a free upgrade to a new king standard room, from our original queen standard room. Everything in the room looked nice and new. The manager also told us some good spots to hit while in town and to get our tickets to the Hall of Fame after 7 PM the night before, and we would be allowed in for 2 hours as a little preview. This little tidbit was priceless, as we were able to have the run of the Hall for a few hours by ourselves. The manager also answered all the questions we had, and was very friendly and thorough with all the information about the inn and town. There is a little parking lot behind the Tunnicliff. It isn't huge, but can definitely fit a good amount of cars with some creative parking. You can park there for free as long as your stay is, and the inn also gives you a list of places with directions of places you can park for free in town that are close. That was real useful information, as we checked out of the hotel, but still had the rest of the day to spend in Cooperstown. The free breakfast buffet was very good as well. We were expecting your basic boring continental breakfast. But the Tunnicliff offered MUCH more than that. They had eggs, bacon, cinammon rolls, muffins, cereal, pancakes, hash browns, waffles, toast, bagles, a special chili cheese eggs recipe, and a bunch of other stuff along with juice/coffee/etc. The food was hot and tasty. Thumbs way up, especially for a free meal. The location simply cannot be beat, either. We were basically a block away from the Hall of Fame, Doubleday Field, and most of the shops. Granted, the Main Street of Cooperstown isn't exactly sprawling, but being close to everything was really nice. If we wanted to drop something off at the hotel, it was so extremely convenient. And when we wanted to go somewhere, inevitably we were right next to it. For all of this, you think the prices would be high? Instead it's the best deal in the entire town (from what I saw online at least). The next time I go to Cooperstown or any of my family/friends ask where to stay in Cooperstown, my answer is 100% the Tunnicliff Inn. I sincerely look forward to going back there again soon! read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to use Cooperstown as a base of operations to explore a bit of the Adirondacks, and we chose the Tunnicliff Inn based on its reviews on yelp and other review sites and its incredibly reasonable prices. We absolutely were not disappointed. The Inn was clean and quiet, the bed comfortable and the hosts inviting and available. We had the option of having a buffet breakfast in the lobby each morning. The free breakfast consisted of pancakes with real maple syrup, eggs, fresh warm mixed berry muffins, sausage, a selection of cereals, OJ, cranberry juice, apple juice, coffee and tea. Another nice feature of the Inn is an extensive list (literally, hundreds) of DVD titles. The nightlife in Cooperstown (at least in the off season) is close to non-existent. We did not take advantage of this service, preferring instead to watch one of the dozens of TV channels, but it was a very nice feature that clearly served a purpose. The titles included a healthy mix of movies to please both adults and kiddies; the list also included a statement that rated R titles would not be loaned out to children without their parents present for the request. We stayed in a room on the third floor (beware the lack of elevators if you have heavy bags) overlooking one of the side streets. The floor was a little bit tilted toward the bathroom and the decor had not been updated in quite some time. However, the room and the linens were clean, the bathroom adequate (a good, steaming-hot shower just the way I like it) and, despite the location relatively close to Main Street, the heavy curtain kept out the noise and light pollution from the outside. The lights and ceiling fan were on a neat wall-mounted remote-like switch plate (easy to operate). We slept with the ceiling fan on low each night and were quite comfortable. Regarding an earlier reviewer's parking comment; the Inn had about 5 or 6 parking spaces behind it and the host told us that if we came home to find them full, to simply park at the Doubleday Field parking lot (about a 1 minute walk from the Inn). The Inn is convenient to everything in Cooperstown. Really, *everything*. I would definitely recommend the Tunnicliff Inn to friends looking for a great, relatively inexpensive place to stay and family looking for something "nice" and convenient. read more

This review is about staying at the inn, not eating at the restaurant. I stayed here 2 nights in mid-October, 2012, for an off-season visit to the Hall of Fame, touring the local museums, enjoying the foliage, and checking local micro-breweries. I got a great deal and I would certainly go back again. The inn is 210 years old - a "south wing" was probably added a little later. It is in the heart of Old Cooperstown, just off Main St. So - do not expect level floors, even-spaced steps, or anything that does not creak. But this place has character and a half, balanced with a modern bathroom, and a mini-fridge, brand new coffeemaker, Blu-Ray DVD with flat panel TV and about 200 cable channels, and a huge selection of movies you can borrow at no charge. My executive queen room was upgraded to an executive king which was large, included a desk plus chair and very comfortable couch, and a big bargain at $75/night! The bed was definitely not 210 yrs. old, and it was very restful. The hot breakfast buffet was much more than I expected, and included with the room. With 210 yrs. of Cooperstown history, this place MUST be haunted, but the ghosts seem friendly. They never disturbed me, and I slept very well here. Shortcomings: there's no elevator if your room is upstairs. The bath was modern, but the shower was small. There was no light in the closet. My first floor room had only a view of the street outside. There's free parking, but ask for exact directions. Otherwise it;s a fun place, great location close to everything, friendly staff always quick to help, and a Federal-era inn which anchors a town that has not changed much since the Civil War. On my 4th trip to Cooperstown, I wanted to actually stay in the village and walk to attractions. From the reviews, I thought I'd have a better experience. I'm trying to keep an open mind that the building is over 200 years old and at $150/night with free parking and a hot breakfast included, they were the best deal in town. The bathrooms were certainly added to the rooms more recently when it became a detriment to B&B's to have shared bathrooms. I get that this lends itself to necessarily smaller amenities, but I barely fit in my shower stall at 5'4" and a reasonable weight; there is no way a regular-ized guy could successfully shower in here. I'm not sure how old the bed was, but I was expecting one that didn't slope from the center. Breakfast was lackluster. Tunnicliff offers a hot breakfast buffet, but were out of pancakes, bacon & eggs benedict before 9am on Friday morning with nothing refilled at all. Saturday morning we arrived as soon as the buffet opened and were pleased with the food. Nothing fantastic, but good. Maybe I went on an off week. The rooms are clean, and if you can overlook the uneven 200+ year old creaky floors and lack of elevator, the quality is good. The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. read more

Only reviewing the Inn and not the restaurant as it looked too dirty/scary to eat at the restaurant. This place gets one star only because I can't give it zero stars. There is only ONE redeeming quality about the Tunnicliff Inn; the location. Three minute walk to the Hall as well as the Lake Otsego. But the convenient location is not enough to offset all that is wrong with this place. There is nothing quaint or 'classic' about this place. It is old, decaying, depressing, outdated and worst of all, dirty. It's too bad because this place has so much potential due to the location, but it needs a complete overhaul, inside and out. The decor is very old and items were completely mismatched and randomly thrown together. There is an old, musty smell throughout, worse in some spots than others. I poked my head into the basement restaurant and it looked downright scary, like something thrown together by a frat house. Our room was severely slanted, comically so, and the carpet was stained. The bathroom was dirty and the shower was ridiculously small. The shower curtain was a cheesy 1970's silky material that felt gross when I accidentally rubbed up against it. Something - either the towels, sheets or shower curtain - gave me a rash on my arms, neck and torso. One of the towels had a black stain on it. As others have mentioned, the manager (?) Tom was rude and condescending and got annoyed when asked questions. He was also creepy and seemed to always be lingering around a corner or appearing out of nowhere. The rest of the staff reminded me of a prison work-release crew; no one smiled or really even acknowledged us. No one was present at the front desk for the entirety of our stay; instead there is a phone and a note asking to call for assistance. Like everything else about this place, it was odd. Bottom line, the Tunnicliff Inn is one step above being a condemned property, and not worth the price of an hourly-rate motel, let alone a decent hotel. I can't imagine anyone who has been there recently (we went in July 2018) giving this more than one star. It is simply a sub-standard hotel, not worth the price or hassle. read more

First, let's get it out of the way this is an old building. It has 3 floors and there is no elevator. The parking is tight. If you can live with those items than there is no reason to not stay at this establishment. The inn is located a short walk from the Baseball Hall if Fame. It is right off Main Street next to small "park" that is on Main Street. Our room was clean and well kept. The Inn itself was very well kept. It had that "old time" feeling in a way that we enjoyed and appreciated. The mornings started with the included breakfast that consisted of cereal, eggs, bacon or cold cereal. They also offered a made to order menu that was posted with roughly 8-9 items. The individual working while we were there was very accommodating and pleasant. We went to Cooperstown as a last minute decision as part of our vacation. We were walk ins and they happened to have one room left. The gentleman working at the desk took us around the hotel very thoroughly and than took us to see the room before he even asked us our intention to stay or not. We thought that was excellent customer service in an era where that is rare. We enjoyed our stay and would easily stay there again. read more

Very nice, 'downtown' location that is easily walkable to the Hall of Fame, or the pizza joints, or the lake. Cooperstown is a beautiful little town and this rickety, old, off level Inn is as authentic as it gets. Sure the floors are kind of spongey, and sure you'd be hard pressed to find a right angle in the place but c'mon! It's like 200 years old. Pretty great for 200 years old. Way better that some 1980s Holiday Inn with free breakfast. (And they also have free breakfast. Which wasn't half bad!) It's a nice, clean old Inn and I'd stay here again for sure. read more

This review is only for the restaurant. I stopped in here recently while in Cooperstown on business and I was pleasantly surprised. The service was very good and the drink selection wasn't bad either (I ended up going with a local Cooperstown brew). I ended up getting a ribeye steak with broccoli and a maple-mashed sweet potato, which were all very good (especially the sweet potato). I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area. read more

This is as good as it gets! My son and I checked in on a Sunday as a walk-in as we had just arrived from a long trip and happened to be walking near the Baseball Hall of Fame (BHOF). This was the only place we could find within walking distance of the BHOF, shops, restaurants, and the beautiful lake. Before checking in, the nice gentleman showed us how our room looked like and explained everything, took us to where we would be having our free breakfast, and showed us our parking spot. The Inn had a very historical feeling with its cozy atmosphere. We stayed there for one night during non-peak season. The lady who cooked breakfast for us was very friendly and always asked if we needed anything else. They even allowed us to park our vehicle all day even when the check-out time was 11:00 a.m. It allowed us to tour the BHOF and walked all over town without worrying about parking (parking was very limited around the area). I have not stayed in the hotel before but I went to eat at the restaurant below the hotel called, "The Pit." The food was bland. I will not be going back. I had some sort of beef pot pie thing. It was served in a bowl with a crusty pie top. The pie top could just be picked up off the bowl. It was gross and did not appear to be homemade at all. The location is great - within blocks of lake and HOF with Main Street steps away. the room and bathroom were clean but the entire place looks horribly dated and not in a quirky or charming way. The outside needs painting, the entry area and first floor are not welcoming - sparsely furnished with poor lighting. No breakfast served due to covid but great coffee across the street and bakery 2 blocks away has coffee to go. The innkeeper seems nice but not particularly friendly. We were invited to bring any "to go" food to the lackluster impersonal eating area. Metal conference tables and chairs -ugh. Last minute trip and they only had a standard queen room available which was small. Very squeaky mattress and thin walls! No place in hotel was inviting to sit including our room. Location is the biggest asset. Covid has likely contributed to its condition. Someone should invest some money and turn this place around. read more

I booked this hotel based on availability and the short walk to the main street and baseball hall of fame. It is a 200+ yr old building and very unique. There is a lot that could be done to make this a nicer stay. The price is definitely not worth it. The rooms were a good size but the sheets and blankets were not very inviting. We booked two rooms and everyone removed the top blankets that was very old and worn and we slept on top the the sheet. The pillows were very lumpy and not comfortable. The decor is very dark. Everything was dark brown including the bath towels so you don't even know if they are clean. Towels and linens had a musty smell to them. The shower stall was very small and the floors in the bathroom are wood with mould. Nothing had a crisp clean look to it. The bed was comfortable but as mentioned the linens didn't have a clean feel to them. The front lobby smelled of smoke and the guy running the front desk was constantly standing out front of the door smoking. Not a very inviting entrance. We did not sleep well at this Inn and all of us were afraid of even try the breakfast as the cleanliness of the kitchen was questionable after the rooms didn't give a clean feel so we got up early and left. The check in process was ok. The guy at the desk gave off a vibe that he had better things to be doing. He didn't answers questions when checking in and responded to guests in a very annoyed tone if asked any questions. read more

We had such an excellent stay here over President's weekend! It was the off season for the town, so we felt like we were the only people in town for most of the weekend. We had an excellent complimentary breakfast of pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc each morning and loved the coffee shop that was across the street. The room was spacious and stayed warm during the sub zero temperatures that happened that weekend. There was free parking in the back as well which was great with all the snow on the street. Totally reccomend for anyone visiting Cooperstown, but have to imagine during the summer it gets booked quickly. read more

Very unhappy with our experience here. We had a party of 25 and while Steve the server did the best he could, Tom the manager was inept and refused to come out and face us at the end of the night. First they forced us to separate our own bill which took 30-40 minutes because we had such a large group. Secondly, they literally took the order from the main table and had our food to us before they had even taken the remainder of the group, seated at a few other tables, order. Tom didn't know the size of the steak and said he'd get it but didn't. We asked for bread and Tom said he'd get it but didn't. Steak was cooked more for every order than requested, soup I ordered never came and said another patron ordered never came so we had those removed from the bill. The biggest frustration was how Tom coward in the back at the end of the night while we worked to calculate the bill. He literally refused to come out and speak with us. Do not waste your time or money with this place. There are far better options in Cooperstown. read more

I left the NYC area around 10 PM on a Friday night and arrived around 2:30 AM in the morning. The manager on duty was so nice and welcoming that he brought us to our room immediately. The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable. Our room was equipped with matching robes, wine glasses, and all that you would expect in a hotel room. Breakfast was included with our stay, which was delicious. Try the strawberry-stuffed French toast! I would definitely stay here again! read more

To begin, I have to admit I have never stayed here, however that is precisely why I am writing a review. While planning a trip to Cooperstown my boyfriend and I came across the listing for this hotel. Decent prices, not far from the downtown area so we figured we'd give it a shot. First complaint is the terribly out-dated website, which is also poorly designed. This is not 1994, so your technology shouldn't be either. But the real reason I'm even bothering to further acknowledge this place is to point out how poorly run the business is. To begin, they ask you to submit an email request with FULL credit card information (that means entire number, security code, etc) over an unsecured Verizon.Net address. After noting I would call with my card number the next day, I received an email with an available room. Promptly calling the hotel the next day I was given the run-around by some employee and told that I could no longer have my room as it was booked, though I received an email holding it. Finally being re-directed to the manager two days later I was told there was nothing he could do and that I should have called!! Which I did, TWICE. The manager was completely unhelpful and didn't even offer to try and work with us for another room. In short, we were told a room was available and due to the fact that sending full credit card information over an email was out of the question, we lost out on a room. It's not even losing the room that bothers us, it's that the staff was completely rude, unhelpful and clearly uneducated about any business protocol. read more

This hotel is not perfect but it is perfectly fine. It is just what you would expect from a building this old. Charm and creaky floors which we love. Great location. We did not move our car at all.
