Not sure why this place receives so much hate. I had a pretty great experience here. Tunnel is a nightclub located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. I came here for a friend's coworker's birthday party here and had a good time. We had no issues getting in and finding our friend's group. We came during 11-1130PM so it wasn't too crowded at the time. As the night progressed, the place got more and more crowded. It was so crowded to the point that it was a hassle to move around and even staying still meant getting pushed by different groups of people. But I can't be upset about a business being successful. The DJ playing that night focused on contemporary as well as 2000s hiphop. Though there were random transitions to different genres that I was not expecting. IIRC, we heard a random rock song in there or two before the night was over. It was a bit silly but my group loved it. The effects and lights are also one of the strong points of Tunnel. Bartenders were extremely slow even at times when the bar was empty. Not sure if they didn't see me but it took a rather long time to get tended to. Expect about a 10-15m wait at times and $$ on drink prices. I wasn't able to capture much of the drink selection but it looked pretty standard with no memorable offerings that stuck out. Restrooms are towards the back (opposite of DJ) and take a lot of wiggling through to get there. There is a restroom attendant on staff and toilets were clean. Leaving the place was a bit of a hassle. There are two stairs in Tunnel. One is strictly for entrance while the other is strictly for leaving. We got held up by a group carrying a drunk friend down the stairs that took more time than I'd like. Given the size of the exit stairs, I was surprised that so few people could clog the entire thing. Bouncers yelled at people who stood on the stairs without moving. I'd give this place a 4/5. I'd definitely recommend this place to others and wouldn't mind coming back. Yet, some things felt off here keeping it from a 5/5. Maybe a later visit will bump it up. read more

I had a really concerning experience here this past weekend that I feel people should be aware of. I was asked to leave by security, which I complied with. Them claiming my friend was fighting with a couple. While I was walking out, one of the bouncers repeatedly shoved me toward the exit. I felt very uncomfortable and began recording what was happening. As I continued leaving, another staff member came up, hit my arm, and knocked my phone out of my hand, yelling YOU CANT RECORD US BITCH. At no point was I being aggressive, so the level of force used felt completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I did contact the police afterward, but nothing meaningful came from it, which is why I'm sharing this here so others are aware. I understand bars have to remove people sometimes, but there's a big difference between escorting someone out and acting this way. I would strongly caution anyone going here to be aware of how security handles situations. read more

Fun club but SO DISORGANIZED. Got a table to celebrate a birthday and first thing the guy at the door said when we arrived was that he was drunk. They then completely messed up letting my group in and split the group into different tables, which then we had to argue with them to fix. We were also not the only ones who had this happen as once bottle service started we saw another group ask for their sign to read "F***ed up letting us in." Don't waste your money getting bottle service here. Not worth the hassle and the rude staff. read more

This place is RUDE at the entrance. A group of friends and I went to Tunnel to continue our fun night. Upon arriving to get our IDs checked, I was denied entry because I was wearing a CHICAGO bears shirt. I even asked security if I could wear my shirt reversed so the CHICAGO bears logo was hidden. He denied it. I ended up taking my businesss elsewhere because of this issue. It baffles me that my entry was denied because of CHICAGO sports representation. Not even at WRIGLEYVILLE do I get entry denied for repping the WHITE SOX. The audacity, no wonder this place has avg 2.2 stars. My brother and I left the club and we talked to 4 people on the way out to four different checkpoints; we will be right back! All four people said "okay" When we came back the main bouncer, supposedly called "jay", and the girl who gives out the stamps said "we don't recognize you"! We said we have tabs open and "we were one of the first ones here" The officer that pats us down; said, "yeah let them in, I recognize them". All I said was "why are you going to stamp people on the wrist when you can't let them in?" To the stamp girl. The main bouncer, got his feelings hurt from the questioning and said "we are good, I squashed it" and began to kick me out! (And proceeded to tell everyone that I was being an a hole; for which I never have cursed or treated a hospitality employee badly, because I have been one for the past 10 years) Both were wanting to charge us 20 dollars each because they didn't recognize us. I had a chance to visit the Tunnel a couple of months back for the IHCC annual kick off celebration. I had an amazing time at the event. The manager Tony was phenomenol with service. He was aware of his surroundings. He never left us waiting to long for the drinks or service and it was packed. He was definitely seasoned and made us feel very welcomed. Very confused on what happened since the promoter we were with promised us multiple bottles and a table then we couldn't even celebrate our graduation for the whole night. If you want to have a good time, you'll likely need to get VIP tickets and bottle service. Went out on Halloweekend and had the worst night. The staff were fine, but the patrons were so rude. Line was absurdly long, and cover fee of $40 for women and $60 for men was crazy. Once you get in, you get 1 good song that comes on after 3 bad songs. A Tunnel employee attacked and assaulted me in a bathroom stall (she wanted the one I was entering and had been waiting for), and subsequently, because onlookers intervened, said employee got Tunnel security to forcibly remove me without allowing me to retrieve my personal belongings and property or inform my companions of the incident. The police took the incident seriously upon being called, although Tunnel employees at first turned police away before I was able to speak with them and file a report (thus requiring me to call police again, with the whole ordeal taking about two hours to complete). Tunnel protected said employee and denied having any knowledge of the event despite numerous witnesses and the multiple employees involved. Unfortunately, I was unable to specifically identify the attacking employee since the female employees, no joke, all look exactly the same (Kartrashians with cheap lip injections, fried dark brown hair, orange tanning-bed skin). As the security guard who repeatedly encouraged me to leave before police arrived said: "honey, you're describing half the staff here." Although the attacking employee failed to inflict anything beyond BB verbal abuse and superficial harm (she scratched at me until I was able to grab her forearms and someone else pulled her back), it is weak, to say the least, for a club to have violent and entitled employees and allow them to attack paying customers with no consequences. Oh and also: technically illegal. In short: would not recommend. But it wasn't all bad: I got to use the stall. read more

My friends and I had hands down THE WORST experience at this night club. Security here is WAY out of line and does not respect quality patrons. THEY are the riff raff here and intentionally provoked my group, escalated the situation and immediately threatened us with violence. I've never been treated so poorly in my years of dancing in many Chicago night clubs. It was UNBELIEVABLE. This place needs to hire safe and rational security or diagnose and medicate the staff they currently have. I went to Tunnel last Saturday night and had such a fun time. Its one of the hottest night clubs in Chicago! Its a huge venue so lots of room for dancing. Would give 0 stars if I could. I came here for a friend's birthday party on a Saturday night and was weary of being here because of all the bad reviews. Unfortunately, this club lived up to its bad reputation. I was in a group of about 15 people, and we all were registered on EventBrite for free entrance. Five other girls and I (most of us are white) were the first people to go through the door, and we made it up to the second floor no problem. The rest of the group was my friend's family, all Mexican. I'm getting strong racist vibes from the Tunnel manager because as soon as he saw the rest of the group, he signaled to the bouncer to keep them out. The bouncer then told them that the group couldn't enter because one of the guys had a neck tattoo. The tattoo? A feather! And very obviously a feather! Even if it were a tattoo with negative connotations, there is not a single warning or code given about what body art is it is not allowed inside. All the other reviews are telling the truth-- the manager and bouncer pick and choose who should be let in based on racial biases. On top of that, what I did get to see of the place looked dingy, dirty, and gross. The floor was already sticky and littered with paper and mess (it was only 10pm), the room was smoky and hard to breathe in, and there is minimal room for dancing. I recommend that you stay away from this establishment. The staff are disappointingly racist, the music is trash, and the space layout makes no sense. I'm hoping to find information for whoever is above the manager and speak to them about this ridiculous behavior. They really should know better, ESPECIALLY in a city that's so diverse. read more
