Made a quick stop on our road trip and so glad we did! We had such a great experience at Tumble Weed Diner. My husband and I shared one of their huge smash burgers with a side of onion rings, and everything was absolutely delicious. The candied jalapeños were the perfect sweet-and-spicy addition and might have been my favorite part of the meal! My son ordered the Nashville hot tenders (mild), and they were so good that we were all stealing bites from each other's plates the entire meal. Honestly, every dish that came to our table was a hit. The service was great, and the owner even came by to chat with us, which was such a nice touch. She was incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her customers and the food she serves. We'll definitely be back on our way home! We can't wait to try more from the menu! read more

Tumbleweeds Diner in Magdalena, NM is an *outstanding* restaurant and absolutely worth a stop. The smash burgers were superb and perfectly matched with their margaritas. The inside is smaller so they can fill-up quickly. I suspect they get quite busy when the nearby Very Large Array [VLA] has open houses / events. The service was fast & friendly and the ambiance is New Mexico casual with some regional and local art on the walls. Definitely worth a stop, dern-good burgers :) PS: sometimes they run out of items, so please give 'em some grace - they are in the middle of nowhere read more

Well worth a sit down meal stop while on the road! This southwest diner has great food, quick, friendly service and great location. We both had the green chili cheese burger and shared a side of sweet potato fries! So delicious!!! He had the Santa Fe Brewing Co Happy Camper beer and I had the Prickly Pear Margarita. Very refreshing. Food was delivered quickly and restaurant was clean and comfortable. Don't travel through Magdalena often, but will stop here again. read more

My partner and I were returning from Albuquerque to Arizona and stumbled across the Tumbleweeds Diner. She-who-must-be-obeyed ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. She loved her meal and I appreciated the bites of burger and fries she shared with me. I supped on a Southwest Chicken Caesar salad with delightful and lightly battered chicken tenders, and an amazing chipotle Caesar dressing that went well with everything on our table. I ordered an additional portion. Congratulations to the founders and don't miss the lovely eats at Tumbleweeds Diner should you be traversing New Mexico's Highway 60. Two-thumbs-up recommendation. read more

We just stopped by on the way to Kansas and I'm ECSTATIC that we did. They serve the best burgers I've ever had in my entire 70 year life. They fry/burn the cheese to put on the burger and it tastes amazing! Their fries are great as well and the service is excellent. It looks like a humble hole in the wall but don't be fooled, this is a must-stop place if you're coming through! read more

If you are within 50 miles of Magdalena, New Mexico - you must eat here. Honestly the food was incredible. Fresh, hot, delicious. Just perfect. We are going to be making an annual pilgrimage to this place. I can't stop dreaming about my chicken sandwich. Now, I've had many chicken sandwiches in my life. I've been to Nashville. I've eaten hot chicken. This sandwich was incomparable!!! The spices were flavorful and not 'blow out my palate' hot just wake up your nose hot. nice pepper blend smokey and savory. the bun.... omg.... they have a talent baker to craft that to-die-for brioche. The onion rings were light and crispy like tempura onions and naturally sweet. They just pop down quick. Yum. The burger was sweet and spicy jalapeño. Cowboy Candy is right. Savory meat and again that beautiful bun. This place is a gem. read more

Spectacular burgers (beef and bean). amazing toppings that enhanced both burgers and beautifully toasted brioche buns. Lived the sweet potato fries and onion rings. Ate outside with our pups, and the wait staff and owner were so sweet and accommodating. We bought the puppy jerky, which our dogs adored. Highly recommend going out of your way to eat here!! read more

This little restaurant out in the middle of nowhere is great! The double green chile cheeseburger I got was seasoned and cooked well. It was a very good hamburger. I really can't wait to go back and try some of the other burgers made here. I got mine with onion rings and they were delicious. My kid got chicken teriyaki and rice and she loved it. The service here was great and the people were very friendly. This place serves some very good high quality food. Two thumbs up from me and my mini foodie daughter! Be back soon for more! read more

Excellent food and service! It was so good, we stopped at Tumbleweeds twice, to and from our trip to the Gila National Forest. I believe anything on their menu is worth trying! We had their burgers and spicy chicken sandwich. Wow! We ate every bit of our food! Ordered green chile mac and cheese to go because we had to try more of their menu. Definitely worth the stop, or the detour! Can't forget their cute decor, I loved it! Owners were very friendly. read more

Smash Burgers for the win! I got the cheeseburger and my dad got the mushroom but he switched to cheddar instead of the Swiss. My mom was all over the Mac and cheese with bacon and green chilis. The burger I got was perfectly cooked, the cheeses got to hang out on the grill and get charred and crispy too. Now let me talk pickles for a second. HOMEMADE!!!!! Thin, crunchy and the perfect dill to add flavor to already great burger. My dad said the mushrooms were perfect, the bacon was the best - slabbed thick and crispy. And we both got fries that were crispy, just the right saltiness and plentiful. Mac and cheese was yummy!!!! If you're driving on 60, pop in and the menu has a great variety and everything was delicious. read more

It's very difficult to support this place because they often run out of food early and close early without prior notice. They are too busy to answer the phone so you can't call ahead to make sure they're open. read more

This is the second time we've been to tumbleweeds, and they're still spot on. I got a green chile cheeseburger and my wife got green chile mac & cheese. This place is truly an amazing find. You won't find better food anywhere for miles around than Tumbleweeds Diner. The hamburgers are huge- juicy, tasty, cooked perfectly with a great easy-to-pickup bun. Solid French fries. Best I've had other than Houston's and In-N-Out Burger. Service is timely, food wait was spot on not too long. Charming interior. read more

I make sure to come here every time I'm in town. I love to bring visiting family from Europe to experience the best burger they'll ever eat. Without fail they are enchanted with the food and ambience at this special little restaurant. But my favorite is the Southwest Chicken Caesar salad. I'm obsessed with it. From the delicious fried chicken to the pink pickled onions, crunchy tortilla strips and the exceptional dressing - it's my favorite! read more

I'm so thankful we stopped into this diner. Conveniently located in the middle of some of the most beautiful mountain views around, I stopped in for food and drink and was absolutely blown away by one of the best flavor experiences I could have treated myself to. My drink (the prickly pear margarita) was extremely refreshing. I was blown away by the flavor of my meal (Teriyaki chicken) which was beautifully prepared, and my fiancée got the hot chicken sticks which were actually very spicy but in a good way and also came with hand cut fries that were very delicious and a perfect side pairing of homemade ranch dipping sauce. We will absolutely be stopping in again! read more

I love finding awesome restaurants in unlikely places, like small towns seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The cafe is eclectic and colorful, and filled with art and other cool things for sale. The food is homemade and delicious (going back to try the chicken teriyaki!). And the owners were super nice. Definitely worth the drive. Make it a day trip and do some exploring in the area. read more

Tumbleweeds Diner - GCCB salad style, hot chicken and mac & cheese w/ green chile and bacon. - Diners Near Me - Magdalena, New Mexico

Service A+, Ambiance A++, Food A++++ We were on our way to the Very Large Array and had read about this diner on Yelp. Stopped by not entirely sure what to expect from a cute shack in the middle of nowhere. Boy were we in for a pleasant surprise. They were able to make their salads vegetarian by adding an OUT OF THE WORLD black-bean patty that was charred just right. And the Mac-and-cheese was so good that we picked up an order to go on our way out. I would love to see more vegetarian options on the menu, based on just what we ate. But even otherwise, I would love to go back. And the owners are really friendly. read more

Wow! What an absolute gem in the middle of no where. Food is absolutely wonderful... I highly recommend the burgers. We visited on a Friday afternoon on our way back from seeing the VLA. Service was friendly and attentive. Our meals arrived quickly. My husband tried the green chile cheeseburger with onion rings and loved it. The onion rings were cooked perfectly so that the onion did not come out when you bit into it. I had the chicken stix with fries. The chicken stix were a little heavy with the seasoned buttermilk batter (for my taste), but were tasty with the ranch dressing that came with it. The fries were skin on and not greasy. We enjoyed the cowboy ambiance. It's definately worth the stop! read more
