As a patient of several years, until recently I had mostly positive experiences at Tuman. Two years ago they cancelled an appointment with two days' notice, rescheduled, then canceled again. Then an appointment last winter was cancelled the night before. It happens; they were apologetic and both appointments were ultimately rescheduled. But today after I arrived 12 minutes late for my most recent appointment, I was told I'd have to reschedule because I was outside the 10-minute grace period. I hope anyone but the receptionist would have made an exception, but that's the face of the business and that's who I had to deal with. Unfortunately she was neither sympathetic nor polite. If you expect grace from your customers in the face of unexpected cancellations, then you should be willing to give actual grace in return. I'll be looking for another dentist. read more

Dr W Michael Tuman and his staff are extraordinary professional, compassionate, delightful and knowledgeable. I truly appreciate the way they helped me during my dental appointment. I used to be very anxious about going to any dentist...especially for extractions. I wish I met Dr Tuman when I was much younger. I would had taken better careoso of my teeth. Unbelievably good with unbelievably anxious patients like me! My teeth look great and I'm 77 and haven't had to have implants or dentures.

Being a new resident I tried "the best". I was offered a pay in advance for the next visit and receive a discount. Welp... covid came and the office cancelled my appointment. If you know this practice a new appointment must be made months in advance. When I could find no acceptable future date within months my service was denied. AND lost my advance payment of $200 plus dollars. Also, Tumen seems a little money lusty. He wanted me to have extensive work, removal of all filings. And replacement. I should have called NBC cares. I had been needing to go to the dentist for a while because for some unknown reason I started grinding my teeth. By time I knew I was doing it, damage had been done. Also needed a teeth cleaning. A good friend recommended Dr. Michael Tuman's practice. I gave them a call to make and appointment. For some reason the next appointment was 4 months out, but I took it. Meantime, I bought the over the counter tooth guards to protect my teeth at night. They sent me paperwork in the mail to fill out and bring in when I come. FYI, they only take PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) insurance. They do not take HMO'S or DMO'S. Finally my appt. was here! They contacted me through text messaging to remind me of my upcoming appt. They really make sure you are covered by your insurance before they see you, if not you're paying by cash, check or credit before you are seen. I must say it was easy to find, right off of Mt. Pleasant Ave. on Lincoln Drive in West Mt. Airy. There is no parking lot, just on street parking. I had a very pleasant vist. The receptionist, dental assistant and Dr. Tuman were very nice, making me feel comfortable. The dental assistant took x-rays and cleaned my teeth. I think her name was Lori, anyway she was very pleasant and professional explaining everything she was doing. Dr. Micheal Tuman came in and went over the xays with me and told me I needed scaling done to my teeth, but would let me know what my insurance would cover. I also needed a tooth guard made for my mouth. All I could see was dollar signs because nothing was covered 100%. I have to go back for the scaling, but I was very pleased with my vist overall. If you have a PPO insurance, I would highly recommend them. read more

I got connected into this office via Yelp, and it has been a great fit! It's a local dentist, but not small or scrappy -- they're super well-organized and streamlined. I feel that I've gotten great service there. At one point, they referred me downtown to an endodontist "just in case" and it turned out I needed a bunch of root canals. (I have horrible teeth, no surprise there!) I've been very pleased with their safety protocols via COVID, as well. read more

Due to COVID-19, patients are not allowed to sit in the small waiting room. You have to call when you arrive and wait outside in the car or in the cold if you don't travel by car until they are ready for you. The young women at the front desk are not welcoming at all, close to being rude. I waited outside for about 15-20 minutes which wouldn't have been all that bad except it was 38 degrees that day. The dental work here is good but the services are very expensive in comparison to other dental offices, even if you have insurance. Even though I'm not into politics, I was informed that the office owners are big Trump supporters, even after the January 6 Capitol Attack. I'm not OK with this. read more

This dentist and his son who is also a dentist.. Freaking amazing!!! Called for pain I was feeling and how about it was just a loose crown... They got me in on a Saturday morning and took care of it mad quick!!! Dr. Tuman is so good, I Don even realize he put it on years back, lol... Great office and staff!!! read more

When I went to Dr. Tuman's office he recommended a root canal for me. Luckily I got a second opinion which stated I did not need one. Not only that but my wife got a crown through this dentist that fell out inside of two years. I couldn't even get the dental insurance to cover the replacement because they were trying to figure out why Dr. Tuman does not warranty his work. I recommend that both him and his son go back to dental school before they harm anymore patients. read more

I found Dr. Tuman after much research and following the positive reviews seen on Yelp. I'm the kind of person who requires a lot of dental work so I was relieved when I visited Tuman's office for the first time. The staff and hygienists are so friendly, and the office is clean with modern technology. I thought it was so cool to be able to see my x-rays immediately on the flat screen in front of my dental chair! The service I've received is excellent and I am very pleased overall. If you haven't found a good dentist yet, you must give Dr. Tuman a try! But call in advance because you may have to wait a few weeks before getting an appointment --- he is that popular! read more

For once, I used a new business based on its Yelp reviews and was not disappointed! I needed to choose a new dentist in the area and decided on Dr. Truman based on his positive reviews and the vicinity of his office to my home. All members of the staff here are friendly and helpful. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was easy to talk to and explained what she was doing as she did it and answered all my questions. Dr. Truman is also very friendly and personable and took time to chat with me and gave me advice about my situation. I had some developing cavities, but he didn't hastily suggest filling them and instead gave me some tips on how to reverse the cavities and noted that we will monitor those areas. I am petrified of the dentist. Petrified! I moved to the area and haven't had a dentist in years. I have been experiencing sporadic pain in a tooth where the filling fell out years ago but because I have been avoiding the dentist it got worst. A friend of mine recommended Dr Tuman's practice and it was seriously a delight. As much as you can call found to the dentist a delight :) I was with Ryan, Dr Tuman's son. What a nice and kind doctor and super grateful for his gentle manner and lovely assistant. I debated greatly whether to reroute as a 3-star or 4-star. I chose the latter because I believe everyone makes mistakes now and then and it's how you remediate the situation that shows true character and humility, or lack there of. I'll keep this brief as this is my second update. Sunday evening I sent Dr Tuman's office an email expressing my great dissatisfaction and pain caused by the exposure of dentin from shaving a cusp adjacent to a tooth in which I had a cavity filled. 10am Tuesday I called the office as I had not received a phone call. I promptly chose a Wednesday afternoon appointment. I went in 30 minutes early, had about a 15 minute wait and then spoke with Dr Tuman first thing. Fortunately, as I had hoped, his office staff had provided him with a copy of the email I sent, so he was well briefed on the progression of my tooth pain. He was very apologetic for the situation I was in. He briefed me on the chronology of our past appointments and gave his plan for how he intended to resolve the exposed dentin. His care and concern was manifest when he told me that he deliberated at home the night before as to the right treatment to resolve my pain. He insisted that he would do whatever it takes to remediate the situation at no charge. He sealed the pit with epoxy and made me custom top and bottom teeth whitening molds, which will be used to keep desensitizer on my teeth and maybe protect my teeth during any grinding while I sleep. He spent a considerable amount of time with me educating and drawing out the anatomy of my tooth on paper. He also took some photographs of the pit exposing dentin. Without expatiating on my dental health, I grind my teeth at night and have worn away several cusps and a large amount of my enamel. To alleviate any possible pressure on my bottom filling he had lightly filled away at the cusp of the adjacent tooth in my upper mouth. There was little to no enamel on that cusp to begin with so he exposed the dentin. Consequently I had pain there and couldn't eat on the left side of my mouth intermittently for several months following the standard procedure. Despite the mistake, I still believe that Dr Tuman is a competent and skilled dentist, so I will continue seeing him for my oral maintenance. His repentant attitude, concern for my well-being, and inventive but prudent treatment plan earned him the extra star for my updated review. read more

Best dentist I've ever seen. They made room for me as a new patient in need of emergency treatment. I don't have dental insurance and so I was shocked to see how affordable the whole appointment was...I'm positive they could have thrown in all kinds of charges if they'd wanted to take advantage of my vulnerability (I was in so much pain!) My mom and I are both switching dentists immediately to begin seeing Dr. Tuman for regular appointments. Our family has a lot of mistrust when it comes to dentists based on a couple of bad experiences but we got such a great vibe from all of the staff and a genuine desire to do good work from Dr. Tuman. read more

When I was a kid/teen I did not take good care of my teeth (brush up young readers!). Hence, I am both terrified of the dentist and of the damage I have done to my teeth. I have been going to Dr. Tuman's office for two years now and have always received quality service. I recently had a filling completed and was very anxious. They did everything they could to see my anxiety was reduced. Also the hygienists always are accommodating to my horrible gag reflex and incredibly small mouth. In addition, I like that they are open late in the day (though sometimes hard to schedule) and early in the morning which fits my work schedule. This dentist is the used car salesmen of dentist. He tried to tell me that I needed extra cosmetic work and that it was necessary. I went to a different dentist.He didn't force or try to make me believe that I needed all these extra things to get money out of me. After I brought this too the attention of Micheal he staff contacted me and were very defensive and outright rude. This man does not care about his patients or ethical dentistry. Dr. Ryan Tuman helped to alleviate tooth pain I was experiencing due to a previous dentist messing up a crown after a root canal. Dr. Ryan Tuman sat with me and explained the possible reasons why I was experiencing pain. He also offered numerous suggestions about treatment planning in order to help save me the most money. He also asked that I call after a few days to update him on how I was feeling. When I called, he was immediately available to speak. I was referred to Dr. Tuman from my great othrodontist Dr. Moore. I am in the final stages of my braces and in order to complete my treatment I had to have two teeth extracted. Dr. Tuman staff was very nice and welcoming. Dr. Tuman himself was very nice and concerning, before he removed my teeth he explained everything to me and always asked did I have questions. He even called Dr. Moore due to his professional opinion he wanted to make sure he was removing the proper teeth and could the spaces be closed with no gaping visible. The whole experience was great and Dr. Tuman will now be my dentist going forward. read more

Quite simply, Dr. Tuman is the best dentist I've ever been to! I had a dental emergency, and called his office. They accommodated me immediately, even though I was a first-time patient. The waiting room is a little small, but it's adequate. The staff is friendly and professional. From the start, I felt comfortable and, even more, I felt like I was in completely expert hands. Dr. Tuman explained what needed to be done clearly, and then got to work. I felt at-ease the entire time. Dr. Tuman's hours are fantastic, he honors a variety of insurances. I've gone to this dentist once. It was okay. The hygienest working on my teeth was a temp who didn't seem to care what was comfortable or uncomfortable for me. I didn't like that the office is one big room and you can see and hear what's going on with other people. The wait was long, even though I had a very early morning appointment. On the positive side, the dentist was friendly and the office staff researched insurance coverage for various work and followed up with me on that.
