This is an updated review, as I did not include the breaker box issue in the previous review. Even though it has been 3 years since the job was completed, the feeling of being duped with the breaker box still bothers me.
One star since the bathroom functions, but no more than one star, due to the quality of work and overall experience.
Trace (TSH Construction) remodeled a bathroom for us a couple of years ago. It looks amazing in pictures, and everything functions, but up close, there are still things that bother us every time we see them, and they remind us of our unpleasant experience working with Trace.
Our main issues are: Poor attention to detail (bathroom doesn't look professional up close), and poor communication with Trace. Also just a note that Trace did not seem to be very interested in design ideas that weren't his own.
It was hard to communicate with him, b/c he likes to talk more than listen. This quickly became very stressful. Also, on multiple occasions he said he was going to show up at our house to discuss elements of the job, but instead he would send a worker who didn't know what to do about our concerns, therefore we had to wait longer to get them fixed. Some were never fixed.
Trace insisted that we get 3 new circuits/breakers, which I didn't understand, since we were upgrading to LED lighting. But we agreed to pay for it. Weeks later, as they were putting the finishing touches on the bathroom, I took a look at the breaker box. I didn't see the upgrades, and I asked Trace if his electrician could point them out. His electrician was never available to show us, and Trace wouldn't/couldn't do it himself. About a month later, we hired an electrician that we know to do some other work, and I asked him if he could identify anything new in our breaker box. There was nothing. We paid Trace extra for something we didn't get! It still bothers me a lot.
Other items - poor attention to detail:
-The brand new ceiling drywall that they installed was wavy and bulging. They were going to leave it that way and we had to specifically request to get it fixed, so we could have a flat ceiling. We didn't realize stuff like this was a special request, but similar things kept happening.
-The new drywall wall behind our new vanity was not straight, and instead of making it flat, they just pushed the vanity up against the bulging wall, and left it that way. We had to specifically request that they come back out and make the wall behind the vanity flush, so there would be no ¾" gap behind the vanity/backsplash on each side. Quite a big gap to just ignore! Now the wall has a weird texture in the area they fixed, which we see every day; a constant reminder of what we had to deal with during the remodel.
-They installed the bathtub filler pipes in the wall off-center by 1/2", and started to tile around them. We had to specifically point out to them that they weren't centered, so they could stop the tiling job and fix the valves.
-There is a brand new small wall next to the door, which is crooked. It's only about a foot wide, and yet they managed to build it at an angle, which is easily seen by anyone using the bathroom. Kind of a bummer when you are showing off your new bathroom and there's a crooked wall that everyone can see.
-Other hardware was not mounted straight. The shower head bar, TP holder, and towel holder were all crooked to the naked eye! Maybe they didn't have a level? I don't understand.
-The sink valves were very crooked after they were finished mounting them. We had to adjust them ourselves, by unscrewing the handles and centering them.
-After the job was done, he sent an "electrician" to our house, who had not been there before, to swap a light switch for a dimmer switch. The "electrician" was in the bathroom for about 45 minutes working on it, and ended up damaging our wall and leaving a mess on the floor. I'm no electrician, but when we realized that our lights were humming, I decided to try a different brand of dimmer, and install it myself, which took only 15 minutes, (and with no wall damage)! I really don't understand what happened with the guy that he sent, and why they didn't offer to repair the wall.
Overall we feel that Trace's extremely poor attention to detail and lack of good communication are the reasons that we would strongly advise anyone against working with TSH Construction. We feel a little taken advantage of, since some of our concerns were never addressed, yet we gave him a lot of money for the remodel. It's been 2 years now, and he still has not addressed some issues. He never showed up to close out the job at the end. We hope we don't discover bigger problems in a few years. read more
