It's a fairly small branch, and its cash machines are generally mobbed, especially during busy shopping times like Saturday afternoons and Thursday evenings. I think that people tend to forget that there's a Lloyds around the corner and a Bank of Scotland one block along the road. I went in ehre to open up my graduate account, since their overdraft terms are a lot more reasonable than those at my previous student bank, HSBC. It didn't take long to set up and the teller was very helpful. The bank itself as a means for withdrawing money, depositing cheques, and other routine things seems to be pretty good in general. The queues can be pretty long but since it's small there are only so many people you can cram in at once. Pretty much all you could ever want or need from a city centre bank branch.

I'd gone into the nameless bank a few doors up just before this - wanting to talk to someone about opening an account - and has left sorely disappointed with the service I received. This was not the case in this Santander branch, though. Within about three minutes of walking in the door I was sat down in a booth with a knowledgeable lady offering me chocolates. She answered all my questions and filled in an application form for me all in about twenty minutes. Perfect.

How much? Do I have a pen?' These dudes almost make it simple: Make an appointment with these dudes, turn up, get taken on time and with a smile... can you ask for more? I banked with the bank of Scotland for over 30+ years ever since l was a kid, it was a sad day to move to a rival. The co-operative bank may not offer more interest than most places, but they sure make up with the personal touch, with most staff not even looking like bankers, with many of the staff remembering clients by first name, here l feel I'm not just a number. Definitely a bank worthy of 5 stars.

The new boys on the plot have taken a different approach to the world of personal banking in addition to the standard bank services that are offered they have taken visiting the bank to a whole new level. Attached to the bank is a members lounge where any bank customer can visit with a guest if they desire. They have WiFi, ipads, iMacs, coffee machines, a cinema and even a mini library all be it filled with Richard Branson's books. The staff are amazing and treat the whole thing as an experience for the customer rather than just banking. It is worth opening an account with virgin just to get access to their lounges let alone the banking services which so far have been great too.

Being an English girl in Glasgow basically boils down to not being able to find my bank on any of the high streets. In fact - there's really only one branch of Natwest in the who of Glasgow, and it's this one. It's a little bit of a way out of the main shopping drags in town. It's closest to Sauchiehall Street, but even from there you'll have to make a twisty-turney-uphill trek to find it. Once you're outside this branch, though, you'll find yourself in a lovely open square, the kind that posh people live in that has a lovely park/garden in the middle. On a sunny day, this isn't a bad place to spend a few minutes (and you'll probably need to in order to work out how to get back to where you came from). Even though it's completely out of the way and not at all convenient - thankfully this means that I have yet to see this branch be busy. Every cloud and all that.

However, there are usually staff on hand to direct you to the right place if you look a bit lost. The indoor cash machine is handy when it's (or when there's a long queue of people outside). For other things I've always been served fairly quickly and the staff are very helpful and friendly. I suspect that there can be a bit of a wait at peak times but so far I've found it better than branches of other banks I've used on Byres Road.

There is lift access as well. The branch is quite big inside and there are plenty of staff, all of which seem helpful. It's not that convenient for everyone however as I am not at this part of town very often and I find myself waiting to get back to the outskirts before doing my banking. There is a car park within the centre, however, you have to pay for this facility.

The shop is not laid out well, and could be cleaner. The books and crockery are reasonably priced, but the furniture is far too expensive for what it is and the state of it. The staff are friendly and doing a good job but the goods are overall overpriced.

These days they usually have two desks open and one additional member of staff working through the line of people to see if anyone could use the automatic paying in machine to avoid keeping a desk busy. Staff don't always know what to do with less common banking requests (for example, when account types change) but they can usually find you an advisor who does know what they're doing, or can make you an appointment if necessary. Unfortunately the process for making such appointments is pretty slow, otherwise I'd be inclined to give an extra star. Providing comfy seats and tablets for online banking is a nice touch. I just wish they were open a little bit later.

Due to the awkward opening times, it's often very busy, and lines don't move too quickly. It's a bank, and it does what it needs to do, but there is so much room for improvement here!
