The atmosphere they created for the participants was warm, welcoming, and interesting as topics and guest speakers changed weekly. It was a fulfilling program where I formed a great bond with the ladies in the class as well as the WPA staff. I also became a CLU or Community Linkage Unit client and they assisted me with information and services on anything I needed at the time. I then became an Employment Training participant and completed an internship with WPA and afterward, they assisted me with permanent placement work! I recently became a first-time mom and WPA has been consistently supportive not only checking in on my daughter and me but from the moment they knew I was pregnant they have gone above and beyond in assisting me with items for my daughter and I'm not just talking about diapers and wipes! They are a truly dedicated team of people who fight a fight for women and support women as I have never seen another organization do!

I had a bizarre experience this morning that has caused me to reconsider visiting Bolivia…read more By way of background, I had filled the visa form as a tourist and attached the supporting documents and brought them to the consulate. A staff member pointed out that there was no number assigned to my application, so I would have to re-do it. I was actively discussing with him how to fill the application on my phone so I do not have to go back home. In walks a guy claiming to be the "consulate general", saying i am raising my voice and this is a diplomatic mission, I don't have any rights here since I am not on US land, I need to show respect, ... etc. etc. Totally unexpected. He won't listen to anything I was saying, and brings me downstairs and calls NYPD (sic). The NYPD sergeant promptly walked with me and said he totally believed me ... seemed like this wasn't his first rodeo with this "consulate general". This individual should be reported to the ambassador's office, but I have been unable to locate an email for them. I hope they fire him so he doesn't do more damage to his country's reputation with another ego trip. I will spend my meager tourist dollars in Ecuador or Paraguay instead.

So here is some information that might help someone out there. I did the entire process in person…read moreand think that made a difference in speed as they are a tad slow and they only have a small group of officers. But most people mail the documents in to them, per the lady helping me. The time between my first visit and visa stamp was 23 days and I actually had to wait an hour or so for them to process it. Give yourself 4-6 weeks to be safe. Overall, it was a smooth process and the lady helping me was super nice. I suggest going in person if possible. Tips: The simplest advice - Follow every step listed in the the online application. EVERY STEP. For ex, they want your apartment lease so give it to them. I witnessed a few people getting sent back for not having this. Basically follow the checklist because they do. Employers insurance is supposedly enough but I purchased additional medical insurance for $15 and that elicited a "great job" from the lady. You can decide for yourself. It's cheap and not worth wasting time over IMO. My trip was being paid by the employer but they still want your own bank details so get that as well. Make sure the employer says "we will cover up to $xyz" and this amount is more than what you will need. That makes it quicker for them to approve. If it's your first visit, you will likely only get a single entry visa. Subsequent applications can be multiple entry.

I went to the consulate, waited for 20 minutes, and submitted my application and all relevant documents. The wait time is generally 10 business days to get a decision on your application, but mine took over 15 days and I got a little restless. I called their paid hotline to get a status update twice and both times I didn't get any useful information. I finally left a voicemail at the consulate and got a call back the next day saying my visa approved and that I should come in to get it printed on my passport. The process itself wasn't bad- just long. The people working at the consulate were also very friendly. The main issues were the delayed processing time- I'm guessing this happened because of the 4th of July weekend. Also, the consulate is crazy understaffed. It really was a bummer that I needed to wait for over an hour to only get my visa printed. The visa office is only open 4 hours a week (Tue and Thurs from 10am to noon), and there are so many people applying for visas, I'm sure they're overloaded with work. I wish the office was open for longer or more often and had more employees so the wait time wasn't crazy. Timeline: June 23 (Wed) - submitted online application June 28 (Tue) - submitted application at the consulate July 22 (Fri) - got a call saying my visa was approved (I don't think most people would get a call- you would have to check the status of your visa application on the paid hotline) July 26 (Tue) - got visa printed at the consulate. This definitely took way longer than 10 business days. My experience with the British consulate, on the other hand, was amazing. It took a total of 10 business days for my UK visa to process from start to end- I had my biometrics and submitted my application via mail on July 5, and had my passport back on July 18; it was a breeze.
