Transportation Security Administration - LaGuardia Airport (LGA) Date: December 15, 2025 I had an extremely frustrating and unprofessional experience at the TSA security checkpoint at LaGuardia. I attempted to go through security with a small wooden sign I had purchased as a Christmas gift. The item was non-sharp, non-mechanical, lightweight, and clearly posed no security risk. According to TSA's own published guidelines, this type of item is permitted. I'm also a TSA PreCheck traveler and have carried similar items through checkpoints many times without issue. Despite this, a TSA supervisor named Viola refused to allow the item through screening. When I calmly asked which policy or regulation prohibited it, she refused to provide any explanation or citation. At the same time, other passengers were allowed through with larger items, making the decision feel completely arbitrary and inconsistent. What made the situation worse was the supervisor's demeanor. She was sarcastic, dismissive, and condescending throughout the interaction, and would not give a clear or respectful explanation for her decision. This was especially disappointing behavior from someone in a supervisory role. I fully understand and respect TSA's security mission--but security should be applied consistently and professionally. Selective enforcement and disrespectful treatment do nothing to build public trust and only add unnecessary stress to travel. This experience left a very poor impression of TSA leadership at LGA. Consistency, transparency, and basic courtesy should not be too much to ask. read more

The TSA employees at LGA couldn't have been ruder and impatient and they obviously hate their jobs,, the airport is a stressful place for everyone but these employees need to show a lot more patience and kindness,, would it kill them to smile and be nice? They epitomize the old stereotype of a rude NYer. Please TSA-do better!!! read more

Pros: + Multiple lines running simultaneously - keep an eyeout at the splits. I mean, it's a check-in concourse at an airport so there's not *too* much to get into. But, that said, I had only ever flown in and out of JFK when visiting NYC and I definitely appreciated this experience much better. It seems they're doing lots of renovations, which is nice. There was also very little wait at the times we were there. And the people we encountered were friendly. Nothing bad to say here. Got to enjoy a nice sunset view too. read more

The tsa lady who was getting people to put there belongs in the trays was vicious. Berating people and giving a very angry attitude. It was 1pm Monday the 10th. It wasn't extremely crowded but she was yelling at customers as if the where in a prison line up, which leads me to believe that she was probably a prison guard previously. Most people are uncomfortable enough with the flying process as it is without having to deal with that bs. People with that demeanor should not be working at TSA period!! read more

Zipped through this checkpoint. Did have to remove electronics from my laptop bag, which was a pain, but whatever. I got to keep my shoes on. My laptop bag got pulled aside, but I didn't have to take anything out, oddly. However, nice agents, and very efficient. read more

TSA in terminal B cannot keep up with the crowds. The pre check closes at 730 which is really unacceptable. The advanced Euro style screeners are not effectively used. Really nothing positive to say in an otherwise nice new airport. read more

I love how quick and to the point LaGuardia TSA is. It's the quickest out of all the nyc airports and for that I am grateful!

Painfully slow and inefficient. This section is for TSA Precheck and there is only one lane going, every other bag is being flagged, the line is long, and the loading table/track is very short and can barely accommodate 2 people at a time. Furthermore, when TSA Pre has a monitor to display how long the process will take (like we're in Disney) and that number is quoted at 10+ and still takes longer than that... that's a problem. People pay money for the service and LGA is not making good on it. read more

Truly love all the renovations they did with this airport! For us, we had to check-in our luggage in Southwest and surprisingly it went by quicker for us than it did when we were departing Houston. This terminal feels much bigger than my last visit 3+ years ago. Lots of walking space, clean bathrooms, and a good amount of options in the food court! Heck, if you forgot to grab Junior's cheesecake, you can purchase it right in the food court. The gate waiting area was comfy...really no complaints for me. We boarded comfortably and arrived home safely! We will be back soon! read more

The initial check point could use a little friendliness. No smiles, nothing. But, did their jobs just fine ultimately. This included a woman directing people to the correct line, and a man checking ID's and boarding passes. The man needed to call his female supervisor to help us through, as my driver's license had been lost during the travels to NYC on Friday. The supervisor of this area was very friendly and helpful, plus she apprised me of each and every step I would need to go through in order to successfully pass through the checkpoint. The next portion was putting items on the conveyor belt, and then going through the scanner thing myself (not with my bags, hehe!). Then there were 2 ladies who retrieved all my items...shoes, iPad & phone, and carry-on tote...and took them to a separate area. They were great at making me aware of every move they were making...whether with my items, or with my *ahem* goodies, hehe. And yes, I was.,.and my items were...QUITE thoroughly checked before allowing me through to the concourse. Yes, this all took awhile, but 1) I would hope they would be that thorough with someone going through without photo ID and 2) I obviously was aware the driver's license was missing and therefore allowed plenty of extra time for this step. Pretty rudimentary checkpoint to access Southwest flights, but mostly harmless. Consistent with an checkpoint at what Vice President Biden deemed a "third-world airport," the TSA checkpoint at Terminal B is functional, barely. Dual lines move slowly as they terminate in just two ID-check podiums and two metal detectors. This adds insult upon injury as checked bags had been hand-carried to a metal detector (no conveyor belt at check-in). No dedicated TSA PreCheck line - though PreCheck flyers do get a slip of paper allowing shoes to stay on. Unfortunately, laptops and tablets out for everyone, slowing things down. read more

I want to applaud this group of TSA employees. My husband and I travel a lot. I have never encountered so many nice professionals. This group of TSA employees should be applauded for the work and professionalism and friendliness . In this day of age I have encountered many rude short and unprofessional TSA employees but this group at La Guardia was definitely an exception and a wonderful treat. The team I am referring to from the initial person to the people at the scan point were not but friendly and nice. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. There was no problems and the staff is really nice. I hate flying but they made it stress free!

No hiccups traveling through this checkpoint. Have your boarding pass and ID ready. An airport employee said, "there must be a model convention going on" as we walked by. Very funny and kind. read more
