While in Astoria I had the misfortune of seeing a young woman being robbed near Broadway and the low life perp who was running in my direction with her iPhone was being chased by two brave gents before he was tripped by my size 13 sneakers . So many caring folks called 911 and in minutes the Calvary from the 114th precinct arrived .The officers that I spoke to seemed concerned about the situation and even called an ambulance which the young lady declined. They took my info of what went down as well as other witnesses and had the subhuman in cuffs asap . I go to Astoria on a regular weekly basis and I always notice patrol cars always cruising around which I bet the community appreciates and want 24/7. Good job officers from the 114 precinct for the quick arrival and as for the busted bloody lip and black eye the criminal received, well he did fall face first on the pavement really hard . read more

I am new to Astoria and only here to help move my son to the area. I could not find my car where I had parked it and after searching the streets and calling every tow company, I stopped into the precinct for a possible stolen car. The officer I spoke to was very helpful, looked at all resources he had to see if the car was taken, then explained my next steps. The officers who actually responded later went above and beyond to find my car! I was so pleased that with all the bigger crimes and issues these officers face every day, they took the time to help me, with constant communication throughout the search. Once found, the responding officers picked us up at home to take us to my car with almost as much excitement as I had in knowing my car was found! Thank you 114th!!! read more

This precinct is useless. Does not follow through even when it has a cooperative victim. I was assaulted by a stranger and the case was dropped because Officer Alvarez failed to give paperwork to the ADA. I also filed a violation of an Order of Protection in connection to this case before the case was dismissed and these good for nothing cops closed the complaint without contacting me. These are not professionals in any sense of the word, they will not take your case seriously, no matter what the crime or injury. read more

I came to report a missing wallet. I walked in at 11:15pm and two respectful male cops were at the window to assist me. They asked for my ID to check, gave it back a few minutes later, and ask me to hang out and wait. I waited until 12am. During that wait I noticed a shift change. That's the reason why probably nothing was done. It would have been helpful for someone to explain that to me. At 12am I decided to try a female cop. She was a lot more helpful and had me fill out a lost property report. Why the two male cops didn't do that is beyond me. All cops here were respectful, but for some reason it took me a little over an hour to do something that could have just taken half the time. First off I have tremendous respect for NYPD - They keep all of us safe and that's hard job. ...well, so about the 114th. I had hit and miss experience. Some officers I bumped into on the street or park were extremely nice, we exchange usual "hi", "what's up", "have you see this man?", small talk sometimes, joking around, nice guys (& ladies). Buuuuut, I really HATE calling the 114th on the phone! I saw bunch of motorcycles and cars passing red lights and stop signs (I know there're many kids and elders live on that street), so I called 114th. They tell me that I HAVE TO REPORT IN PERSON at precinct! Does NYPD give me a lift there? (Also this conversation ended "officers have more important task than following up traffic violation in progress. CLICK!") So I called 311 to report the problem and next day I followed up with 311, and to my surprise the 114th investigated the report...12 hours AFTER my first call! Yeah, I'm sure those motorcycles and cars were still at the red light just waiting to get ticketed!?!? Does crime in progress mean anything to them??? I guess I have to start wearing my ugly reflective running vest when picking up a newspaper from corner store? This is why I sometimes feel like I'm living in the 3rd world country. read more

Walking back from the grocery store I witnessed car 3422 of 114th in Astoria driving erratically in the bike lane from 30th avenue to Newtown avenue, up Crescent street. I thought for sure there was an emergency. But all the two individual police officers were doing, dangerously swerving in front of ppl and traffic stopping abruptly in front of the bodega was getting iced coffees. When they came out of the bodega I asked why they performed illegal maneuvers just to get coffee And the female told me that she didn't have to answer me and drove away. She then proceeded to tell me to have a "blessed day" over her car's loud speaker. I walk across that bike lane with my dog and wife and have seen children and families crossing not paying attention because we're all not expecting police cars in the lanes. So obviously this officer is in the wrong. But I know bc of the reputation of the NYPD I know nothing will happen If I file proper complaints. I Just wanted to post. Some of these cops are jokes, kids who get paid minimum wage with no incentive for a future, not serious, not humane, jr skillset. They would be just as happy working at a Yogurt shop. read more

My friends got arrested for a few hours at this precinct and I have to tell you, being the only one sober I watched my friends get verbally abused in the worst way. Although my friends were a little drunk, they were still under control and weren't giving the officers a hard time at all. The officers in there were bully's and it was actually very disgusting to watch how they managed the situation and how they treated my friends. One of them through all my friends papers And IDs on the floor and told her she had to pick it up because " she dropped it " .. just really humiliating. My other friends hand cuffs were on really tight, which by the way left bruises and she asked politely to loosen them up and they laughed and said no, she had them on for a really long time. maybe 2 whole hours. They were making fun of my friends, belittling them, making insulting jokes and Im not sure if it was because all of them were lesbians or because they were all females. The male cops were being very aggressive, pushing and tossing them and no one even cared to say " hey, enough ". They were being bullied the entire time. The next day when my friends made it home they realized they were missing a few things. Some money, a license ID and a passport. They did throw it away or just kept it to be ass holes? because thats exactly what they were acting like. Im just saying that a lot of funny business happens here after hours and Im not sure who was in charge after midnight because they were all behaving on the same level. In the past the 114th PCT. has had issues with the arrogance of some police officers. But considering what the men in blue have had to deal with in the last year and a half. We have a huge problem with people parking their cars in front of active driveways and not taking into consideration that people need to get to work and are unable to because of the driveway is blocked. I have nothing but the upmost respect for police officers and the tremendous jobs they do protecting local communities and keeping the people in them safe. This station does not have any of those officers... Since moving to Woodside a few months ago there have been two situations where I needed help from the police and the officers at this station did not give a crap about me. I was actually told "why are you calling us, just call 911" when attempting to report some suspicious stuff occurring on my block, even though it was in no way a 911 emergency. I have been thinking for the past few days about what I was going to review for my 100th review and today it just kind of presented itself. I woke up this morning like every other weekday ready to go to work and when I reached my car this morning I had the rude awakening that my car had been broken in to. That isn't typical of my neighborhood so it was a bit surprising and I was pretty bummed out about it. I called the 114th because in my opinion it didn't constitute an emergency but the guy I spoke to patiently explained that really the best way to address the issue was to call 911. The gentleman I spoke to was empathetic to my plight and I hung up and made another call. My call to 911 was quick and I was assured that officers would be forthcoming. I really didn't know what to expect for how long it would take. My call to 911 finished with a voice recording sendoff that informed me officers were busy handling other issues in the area and it could be some time. I called work, told them I would be late and then figured I would be settling in for the long haul. I was reminded of the time I brought hubby to the emergency room with an earache. We watched all kinds of ailments pass through ahead of him that were classed as more "time sensitive and urgent" and I envisioned this predicament to be similar. Much to my surprise, two friendly officers from the 114th showed up within an hour and took my information, asked me some questions about what took place and generally made me feel that they cared about what had happened. One of the officers thanked me for calling the incident in, telling me that this kind of information really helps them know what streets need to be patrolled. I appreciate what our officers do for us on a daily basis and I just want to say THANK YOU for all that you do! read more

I walked in there one day because I found a wallet. Well the attitude I got at the front desk was shocking. I guess I interrupted his dinner: why are you eating a full meal at the front desk anyway? For awhile now they have officers standing outside the precinct, I guess to be visible? I don't see the point. How about pulling up some of the weeds growing up all along the front of your precinct...while you're standing there doing nothing? The place looks like it's never taken care of. I should've called them way earlier! In summary, very nice, very fast, and very thorough! There have been a bunch of cars parked illegally on our streets since November 2016 with no/expired license plate (we suspect someone is selling the cars). Note. finding street parking is very hard in our neighborhood. In addition, our neighbors were having a party -- very extremely loud noise! Our cat was so scared, hiding under the bed. My partner and I decided to file complaints about the noise and about the cars online and through calling 311 (sort of killing two birds with one stone). First, the general on the phone was extremely nice. He said that the case was already assigned to a cop, however, they are a little busy today but not to worry. Within 20-40 min, a police car pulls over. Noise is gone after cop spoke to the neighbor, and then they spent 10 min investigating the cars parked on our residential street, hopefully that will be resolved soon. read more

My friend and I were biking north on the bike path and got a summons for "ignoring a sign in the park that it was closed." We told the officers that we were not from the area (verified by id), didn't even see a sign, and therefore thought that every park closed at 1AM (incident occurred at 12), since the parks in Manhattan do. When I asked them why they were chasing down two 18 year olds who were simply trying to enjoy a nice bike ride, they blamed "policy" All I know is that these cops spent 30 minutes on two harmless bikers, rather than patrolling their neighborhood for real crime. So much for "Protect and serve" But then again, this occurred on the 30th, so I assume these two cops had a quota to fill. read more

I have to admit, to me it's odd that you can rate a police precinct. I suppose it's naive to think that we should expect police to be responsible and helpful. I have called this precinct multiple times over a 3 day period and NO ONE answers. Can you believe that not even choosing to connect to the switchboard operator gets a response? I left a message with the community outreach dept (or whatever you call it) twice about a stolen bicycle and have yet to receive a call back. The do nothing cops of Astoria. Like the Keystone cops. Not all of them, but, a good portion of them. The traffic issues, particularly on Steinway St, are horrendous. Drivers constantly run red lights. I witnessed a group of bikers, numbering at least 50 ride on Steinway St, zigzagging in and out of traffic, against traffic and on sidewalks. Past the police who do nothing, as usual. The situation with the nightclubs and hookah bars on Steinway is particularly bad. They have attracted crime, resulting in shootings and stabbings. After dark, it's not safe for families and the general population, particularly between 30th Ave and Astoria Blvd. Loud, raucous crowds, music blaring well past 4am. The quality of life has definitely gone down. And, once again, the 114 are observers who do nothing. As an update, I was, however, helped by Officer Mohamed in a very professional manner when I reported credit card fraud on 4/18/19. Thank you, Officer Mohamed. read more

I called few times already and have myself stopped the police cars to warn them about reckless driving around Astoria Park and Ditmars area and I have never, ever seen police car patrolling the area. All those boys with fancy Range Rovers and Mercedes from that private school on Ditmars, rage around with their cars after they are done with school. I was going to give this precinct the benefit of the doubt after reading these reviews, but nope. I had a minor car accident on a Friday night. Not only did it take them 2 hours to show up, the officer who took my statement didn't even do that correctly. I stated that I didn't see the other car coming and then they hit me. The police report said, "and she stated she made a left turn and hit vehicle 1". What?!!!?!! And he couldn't even take my address down correctly. They didn't take any pictures or witness statements. It's very clear they don't care by putting NO effort in. I pity anyone who has to deal with this precinct. Good luck. read more

This place seems to have a lot of bad ratings, and I've certainly had negative interactions before but they really pulled through for us tonight. We had been dealing with insanely loud neighbors for HOURS on end. I mean floor and walls shaking, kitty scared shitless, can hear their 2nd floor party from downstairs and across the street-type loud. Simultaneously, we've noticed two suspicious vehicles parked outside for over 3 months with expired license plates. They never moved for alternate side parking or anything and we're thinking they're illegally selling them. Anyway we put in a report to the precinct through 311 and they came to check both situations out within an hour or so. They quieted the noise down (I felt like I would never experience quiet again in my life!) and documented and submitted a report for the illegal cars. Double win! I also called to check on the status of the noise complaint and spoke with a very kind officer who assured us someone was on their way. He was extremely polite and sweet and overall this was a very positive experience. It feels nice to be heard and feel helped sometimes! I will say though that on a prior occasion we had a very different experience (hence 4 stars). We saw a pretty bad accident where a car ran into the lamppost after being sideswiped by a semi-truck on the GCP ramp across from burger king. The lamp had fallen across the street and cars were driving over it, causing the lamp to bounce around (and these things are huge so it seemed dangerous). We ran over to the precinct (2 blocks away) and informed the first officer we saw who rolled her eyes at us and said "did you not see the officers over there?" (pointing to a patrol car responding to an entirely separate incident approximately 5 or 6 blocks away from the one we were reporting). Said officer then pushed past me bumping me on my shoulder and walked off giggling with her colleague. Fortunately, someone did respond to the incident and safely open GCP and remove the lamppost (and rescue the poor person who was sideswiped by a semi-truck causing him to hit the lamppost...sounds pretty traumatic to me). read more

I'm so sick of the police not doing anything about the drivers running red lights, it's not even close. Its out of control and I've seen the police there when it happens and they do nothing, hell I've seen them do it as well. I'm going to start to do something about it. I will start to fill rubber balls with nails and throw them under the cars since they almost run me over running red lights. I'm close enough to do it. Astoria is getting to be a dangerous place to walk I usually will walk on 28th ave and 30th ave and people are running lights at EVERY light and I've almost been hit more times than I can count. Today I saw the police running a light, it wasn't even close. You have to lead by example. No they didn't have their lights on, they just didn't care. Today I picked up a birthday package from the post office and left it on the bus... It was an expensive purse from my mother! I got off the bus went into a store and then realized what I did. I frantically looked around for a cab to chase down the bus, no luck. Then I saw NYPD, I was hesitant but desperate. I'm a little afraid of cops and I know they have more important stuff to attend to, but I would have been sick if I lost my mother's gift to me. I flagged them down, told them what happened and they told me to get in. We caught the bus a couple of stops away and I was so freakin grateful the package was still there! I have had nothing but a positive experience with the 114th PCT. The men and women n uniform work extremely hard to protect the communities. I am sorry to read some of the negative interaction but that does not describe the entire Squad. In every profession their is an unprofessional. Doctors make mistakes doesn't make all doctors bad!! I challenge any person commenting to volunteer as auxiliary police or work with the community officer to see what they have to endure on a regular basis. Going to work to put their life in danger to protect us is challenging yet they do it. Detective Harvin is a phenomenal detective. He goes above and beyond his call of duty. When my brother was shot ( not fatal) last month he stayed in contact with my family to make sure that we were okay.He deserve all the respect and admiration for what he does. I have to edit what I say because the shooter is still on the loose. However; Detective Harvin's dedication and genuine concerned with the safety of community he works in shows. I thank him and his squad for the diligent efforts. May God continue to keep them ALL safe as they work those tours to keep us safe!! read more

An officer cane to my residence illegally entered and took my cat . and food lefty note on paper plate . that 114pct has my cat, and a number and name of officer. I call maybe 30 times now. to now where my cat was taken . the dispatch officer who took call told me he left before officer who took cat returned but all pets go to harlem shelter . . i spent 60 bucs cab to find she is not there , . call precinct again they do now and officer not there. on way back i stop at precinct to inquire. told by desk officer hell look into it. and when dispatch officer come in at 3 pm he will find out . 20 call later . another promise by lieutenant. ue will get to bottom of it . Since then i beeen hung up on 20 times . ill update in couple more hours . And post names of all officers i spoke with . If cat dont turn up. My door has locks . They should have never came in in first place . WHERE IS MY CAT!!!!!!! Progress? I finally found out ,well not really, where my Spooky was taken. they gave it to "The Cat Lady". Because I a) live alone and b) could hear that she was asking for help but did not seem injured, rather high or drunk, they advised me to call 911 and said they would dispatch someone. I actually gave this precent one star because of the few great detectives in their, other then that, the cops take their sweet time having you wait almost three hours after you called!! When a cop has been called to your place a few times it becomes a chronic location. So they don't wanna come their because it becomes a nuisance, which is not fair especially if it involves a minor. Wish I could give negative stars. It use to be a decent police precinct maybe if they get out their crooked cops who protect their CI's it will be again. But as long as they have officers there who will lie,fake a police report,refuse to do their job,do false arrest no matter how good the precinct will look on paper usually the truth eventually comes out. It was a good precinct especially when 1 Sargent was there (he retired) now it's horrible. I'm sure there are some officers there who are good&there for the right reasons,some of them are really nice but because of the corrupt cops I don't trust police anymore,I thought guilty pple said the police lie I never thought they actually did especially when they knew the 1 person was guilty. I hope if you've had a bad experience you share it,if you have a problem&they do nothing always write down dates and times you went,make sure you get the officers name and I would personally video record them obviously with audio as well. It's good to have you might not think so the 1st time but when it's the 10th time you're gonna wish you did,trust me. I cant believe how I was just treated here. Someone threatened to damage my car so I wanted to go in and see if I could submit a claim, just in case something did happen. The first officer wouldnt walk towards me and had me yelling my story from across the room. she gave me such an additude and spoke so condescendingly that I said I was uncomfortable and wanted to speak to someone else. Then another officer said "you know if you want to do this im gonna have to fill all this paperwork out and its just gonna go in a filing cabinet somewhere" ... Why yes I would like it filled out, I am sorry but that is your job. They made me feel like such an idiot. Horrible precinct!!!!!!!!! I came in to file and report for someone who attacked me and my husband with his car after a whole big road rage incident and they refused to file it. The guy who attacked us was able to file is and even got my husband arrested when he was the one who tried to attack us. This man made me go through most horrifying roller coaster of my life. After trying cut everyone off in a busy street by getting on the sidewalk and my husband not letting him cut us off because we were so late for work, He got out of the car cursing and spat at us, threatening my husband and inviting him to fight (I begged him to stay). The guy then went to his trunk (I thought he was going to take out a gun or a bat), but there was too much traffic and we couldn't get away. He actually took out a can of Axe and threw it at us, traffic then all of the sudden moved. We ran off and even switched streets to get away from him, but he chased us through the streets - running red lights, getting on sidewalks and finally slammed into the rear of our car. My husband being on parole at that time (problems with his ex-wife) and as per my wishes tried his best not to get out of the car, but once he hit the back of our car, my husband took it as a threat on our lives. He took out the club and pounced on his car and tried to get the guy out, but the guy didn't and instead called the cops on us. Unfortunately, I called the cops 30 seconds after he did... It was to late. I didn't call earlier because I thought it would just end, that the guy would get tired and stop harassing us. The guy pressed charges, saying my husband hit him with the club, which he didn't and that my husband was the one that started it all. We explained to the precinct, but the guy had gotten bruised from he's steering wheel when he slammed on us and claimed that it was from my husband beating on him with the club... It made no sense, if it was a hit by the club by my husband, his arm would have been broken. The point is that I tried to file my report and they treated me like I was the worst person in the world. They ignored me for a half hour, talked down to me ... "what do you want?", they said, then after explaining they said NO. and when I insisted, the captain basically screamed at me, and with an attitude - as if I was bothering him said "I said that you can't, you can't file a report simply because you want to get back at the guy" I told him, that it was not the case, that I just wanted to note what happen and that this guy deserves to be behind bars since he attacked us and I had the damages to my car to prove it... I left there crying and feeling so little and helpless. Isn't the police there to serve and protect us? They are city employees, my taxes pay for their salary. Why are they so against us? All this does is just build hatred and lack of trust. Do I ever even want to even consider getting help from them again? NO! Because I know they wont. read more

First off you have to know that I hate writing bad reviews but there comes a time in every person's life when a limit has been reached. Today is my day! I have had several experiences with this precinct mainly because I needed fingerprints for a government job and also because of noisy neighbors who I had to file complaints about. Fingerprints -Picture it Sept 2013 (in the voice of Estelle Getty from Golden Girls) In a tough economy I FINALLY got a job and it required fingerprints for a background check. The only caveat was that it had to be done within 2 weeks of accepting the job offer. Ok no problem, I thought. I called this precinct and talked to an officer who stated that there is only ONE officer who knows how to do the "old-fashioned way" fingerprinting with actual ink. REALLY?!?! I have seen a lot of movies and have family that are in law enforcement, so I know it is not that hard. But anyway they tell me to make an appointment with the community affairs officer and transfer my call to him. I leave a voicemail at about 9:30am. About 4 days go by and no reply to my VM, so I call back and again leave a voicemail. About a day later I get a phone call and make an appointment to see the officer on a Saturday morning (I adjusted to his schedule since I was still unemployed and had no where to go). He tells me to bring a money order and my fingerprint card. Keep in mind I only have 3 days left to send in my fingerprints. I show up on Saturday and the officer is a no-show!!! I panic and the lady at the front window gives me the same BS about officers not being trained in fingerprinting. She tells me to go to the 113th precinct and see if they can do it. ARE YOU SERIOUS?1?! Well as they say beggars can't be choosers; so I call the 113th precinct and explain my situation to the officer. He tells me to come and long story short, I get my prints (even after that officer had been working for almost 17+hrs). That officer told me that the 114th precinct DUMPS a lot of the work on the 113th precinct. And I believe him 100%. The reason for the two stars is because as per Yelp standards it means "Meh. I've experienced better" - better service at the 113th precinct. Noise complaints- I have called the precinct several times and mostly they just keep me on hold for about 20ish minutes hoping I will go away or get disconnected. Sometimes I am lucky and they will do something (2 out 15 times). I am no math wiz but that is a very low percentage (13% for those who don't want to whip out a calculator). I know there are officers who serve and protect Astoria and I want to thank them but the rest of you need to get your act together. read more
