Always arrive at least 2 hours earlier. If they see you're about to be late, they don't care and will slowly check your contents even when you tell them to throw it out (so you can make your flight, even though you are there an hour earlier). Very rude people, I was shocked by this from an Hawaii airport. They don't know how to handle an influx of travelers as it's chaotic and extremely slow. Also, if you're an Hawaiian airlines premium member, they don't care about that either. You go in the long line like everyone else unlike the other Hawaii airports. I fly multiple times a month around the world and the OGG TSA experience is at the top of the worst. I was flying with my special needs daughter who is in a special stroller. She is not pre-check, though I am. She does have a medical note to not have to remove her shoes as it's confusing and taxing for her. Every other airport lets her go with me through the precheck line but OGG would not. She is 16, they said she had to be 12 and under. Every other TSA has asked her age and no one has ever voiced any concern. I mentioned this to one of the agents who said "and they just let you do whatever you want?" I looked at her, flabbergasted, and at my special needs daughter asked her what part of this was "anything I *wanted* to do?" From then on every agent we encountered was rude, unhelpful and did nothing to address the needs of my child or acknowledge her medical pass. I fly a lot. I'm a fan of TSA agents generally and most are incredibly kind and helpful. I didn't find one kind TSA soul in the airport at OGG. Worst experience ever and they all need sensitivity training. read more

Poor customer service with very different rules than some other airports we've flown thru...No smiles, no greeting, overly-serious tone in a touristy airport. Yes, take off most of your clothes (shoes, jackets, ball caps, sandals) then wait for them to snap an X-ray (naked) photo of you. Then, if you are a cute blonde, you get to be frisked by an overly butch agent with a tit fettish on underwire bras. Maybe they should also have us take off ALL clothing and walk through naked before a cavity search? Really TSA... Not a fan of TSA here at OGG, as you can tell. Hire professional agents that can clearly communicate with travelers, have consistent rules, and try to get a handle on who is blowing up things...it's not the cute-natural-blondes in Hawaii! This is the absolutely worst TSA experience anyone can have. From living in paradise to living in Hell with the TSA bully's in Maui. I flew from San Jose and had a completely different experience from TSA. San Jose was polite and helpfully, Maui was the worst. With the bullshit they put you through there. Everyone is assumed a threat and you are treated like your in Bagdad. Hello this Maui not the middle East. Not sure who is running that place but they should be fired. I've flown out of this airport twice in the last 30 days and this has been my experience with TSA. The first time, was completely my fault... we were already late for our flight that we ended up missing it. (Thankfully, Hawaiian on inter-island flights makes this so accommodating essentially eliminating the stress of that... probably because they are commuter flights and there is two flights out every hour.) However, for anyone who has missed a flight knows they make it REALLY obvious on your ticket. I swear TSA knows this and does stuff just to screw with people. We were in such a rush, I threw scented crystal salts from the Maui flea market right into my carry on. TSA caught it, and pulled my bag to the side, and inspected the salts. No issues, no complaints, it was completely my fault, and nothing happened because there wasn't any rules broken. The TSA agent that inspected my bag, did the swipe of the bag and swiped each rock salt packet. She even asked me what I had in there that would look suspicious, something along the lines of "a salt or something." Even though we were already late, and about to miss our next flight, she didn't drag something on, looking for something that wasn't there. Then, today... Fly in from HNL with no problems. The ONLY thing I picked up on my trip was Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I see people all the time on Oahu with boxes and boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I figured, I would have some kind of issue or extra check because of the doughnuts... but no. The doughnuts made it through without any problems. So what was the problem?! My backpack, that wasn't a problem 7 hours earlier. I honestly think something was going on with the TSA agents in my line because there was some odd delay going through X-ray anyway. It got extremely irritating when the TSA agent held my bag up and asked whose it was. After claiming it, he tells me to move to the side, and then FORGETS he had me move to the side. Then for some reason he found the incessant need to dump everything out of my backpack. Did he find anything? No! Was he looking for something? NO! There was absolutely NO REASON for the delay!! NONE. What makes me even angrier, is he just threw my stuff around and unzipped something that had boyfriends daughters earrings inside of it, and then didn't rezip it! Do you think if those earrings were lost, TSA would have replaced them?! I'm all for safety standards in airports and flying. Hell, I even appreciate what TSA does in ensuring we are safe when we fly. This was just absolutely unreasonable and unnecessary. If they thought I had something in the bag, they should have just asked me what it was and pulled out that one specific thing! read more

To be honest it was smooth and easy to traverse. The TSA agents were helpful and directed everyone politely and thoroughly. The line queue markers were actually not over clear but people were pointing the place to go so it was easy. The area is a bit small and like the overall airport it was not a large area at all but I surmise it's adequate for the amount of people that go through daily. I had Pre so that was the line/area that I experienced. read more

Told to go to different lines by different agents, then yelled at by both in turn for being in the wrong line. Overall rude and snappy employees and don't have their act together. If someone from OGG can explain to me why a TSA agent confiscated my unopened jar (8 oz) of pineapple jam purchased in Lahania and told me I was only allowed 3 oz. ; however the gift shop in departures was selling 10 oz jars of pineapple jam. Not a big deal but it makes one shudder at the thought processes involved in seizing an item openly available before departure within the airport. read more

Horribly slow. I've traveled for years all over the world and never have experienced anything like that. Extremely slow, makes you take out all your food out of your bags. The X-ray scanner was celebrating finding two small vials of liquid. Was showing all the the TSA agents in celebration which totally stopped the processing of passengers in our lane. Took 25 minutes to get through a single line of about 20 people. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Horrible service. I have a 5 year old in a wheelchair and we we treated like crap. We waited forever on the side for a female attendant when she came she separated me from my minor child and I was told to go through the scan. On the other side she said she had to pay me down even though I passed the scan and had not a single item on me or in a pocket. My husband and other daughter who had gone through the screening 10 minutes earlier were forced to bring all their bags back to be hand searched. My husband is Airforce with top security clearance and all of their bags had already passed inspection. I feel because we had a disabled person with us we were unfairly treated. They are horrible. I can't believe after passing their scan they insisted on grabbing my crotch and breasts in public and having me lift my shirt. One of the worst experiences w TSA I've ever had, I have TSA Precheck to begin with & its not available there, I opted out of the X-ray machine (like I always do) & had one of the most intrusive pat-downs in my life! On top of that they were sooo rude, some people put on a uniform & go on a power trip! (I'm on the road x work a lot, go thru TSA at least a dozen times a month). This time we were on vacation). My family recently returned from our first visit to Hawaii. We participated in numerous tours on Maui and Oahu. Several tour guides stressed their and Hawaii's appreciation of tourists. In fact, we heard more than once to "Please report anyone who treats you rudely because it impacts our business and reputation." We had a lovely time on our vacation until we went through security at the Kahului Airport. Never before have I experienced my crotch repeatedly jammed nor felt so sexually violated by the female agent who ignored my please to stop or get a replacement. This also took place in public and in front of my two twenty-something daughters who looked on helplessly. They, of course, had been taught to never let anyone touch them inappropriately. My objections fell on deaf ears; I was told that she was "only doing her job." No other TSA agent has "done their job" like this one over many years and through many airports. None of us in the family want to ever return to Hawaii or at least to Maui. read more

In the last minute rush of packing to depart my vacation without thinking I packed $10 bottle of coconut sauce that was a gift into my carry on bag. The bag was pulled at the checkpoint and the agent asked me if I had any liquids in it. I said no as I had totally forget. When the agent found it I explained what happened thinking to myslef "oh no, get ready for a body cavity search and some grilling." But that was not the case. The agent said he could take it or I could go and check the bag. He then escorted me out and said when I come back to ask for him so I wouldn't have to wait in line again. He was very nice and professional. When I was putting my shoes back on I noticed several large posters with terrorists and the bad stuff they've tried to perpetrate. A great reminder why we have the TSA and the role they play i keeping us safe. I think every checkpoint should have these posters. Sure the checkpoints are a hassle , but just like having your tooth drilled a necessity. Keep up the good work TSA! read more
