Trümmelbach Falls is a must-see if you're visiting Lauterbrunnen. The falls are actually inside the mountain, and you can hear the thunderous roar long before you see the water. Walking through tunnels, stairs, and viewing platforms carved into the rock is an adventure in itself. The elevator helps with part of the climb, but there are still quite a few stairs, so wear good shoes and be prepared for some effort. I'm glad we had patience waiting for the lift and didn't use the stairs all throughout. We got a little damp from the mist, and avoiding slippery areas in the dark were part of the fun experience. We had to come back the next day to get in since the place was already closed when we first arrived. We walked all the way from Staubbach to the village to Trummelbach and didn't know we could have taken the bus to get there while it was still open. It's well worth it. read more

Less than 10 minutes by bus from Lauterbrunnen, this waterfall is quite unique and took us about 2 hours round trip. There are 10 viewing points of the large waterfall, and we rode a lift up partway to lessen the arduous climb upward and then walked the entire way down. While not the most informative/educational experience, walking the trail and experiencing the water up close was nice and refreshing in hot weather. Admission is 16 CHF. read more

We chose to visit Trummelbach Falls on a rainy day but we figured hey we'll probably get a little wet anyway (which we did). The falls are fed from the Jungfrau glaciers. These falls are perfect for almost anyone to visit because they are accessible via underground lift which takes you more than halfway to the top. From here you can walk up or down, or take the lift back down. The falls have a series of viewpoints connected by stairs, tunnels, and paths. The thundering sound of the falls when you're inside the tunnels is insane. There are several platforms where you probably will get wet if you get close (we did). Parking is free but come early or late. Mid-day the park lot was full (on a very rainy day). Also, tour buses come here early so if you're looking to avoid crowds early afternoon was very quiet. Tickets can be purchased on site for the falls. There is also a souvenir shop and a restaurant in the hotel. read more

Trimmelbach Falls is a must-see stop if you are in Lauterbrunnen, but make sure you bring clothes that can get wet. It is a short drive from the town or you can take a bus. The falls are safe and they allow little kids, but I am not sure if I would bright them and if I did, I would hold their hands the whole time. There was ample parking on a gravel lot. It is a little bit of a walk to he to the ticketing area. You walk past a cute restaurant and some bathrooms (which you may want to use since there is no place to go in the halls). The ticket office is cash only and you can pay in Swiss Francs or Euros--but all of your change will be in Francs. You then have the choice to walk up the falls or take this elevator. I would take the elevator because you can see everything walking down. The elevator does not take you to the very top, but about four levels below (and not a tough walk up). One of the things I loved was that every viewing point was a little different--and at some you became very wet. The steps can be slippery, so I recommend to hold onto hand-rail. I think my favorite views were near the bottom, but it does not take long to see all of them Definitely worth a visit, particularly if already a rainy day. read more

What fantastic Falls! My wife and I recently visited Trümmelbach Falls as part of our tour of Austria and Switzerland. We had intentionally signed up for this optional excursion when we read about it - I love waterfalls, always have. Well, this was not ONE waterfall - there were TEN of them - inside of the mountain. As you approach Trümmelbach Falls, you drive through an incredibly beautiful valley with walls that are immensely tall. In fact, this is the area in which they filmed part of the James Bond movie, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". To reach the top of the 10 Falls, you first take the elevator up to between the 6th and 7th Falls. Oh, the elevator is a steep incline elevator inside the mountain; in fact, when my wife was coming down, it actually would not work due to a malfunction - this is not normal - and they safely came down the normal footpath. From the starting point, you can take additional steps higher to the 10th Fall, or you can go a few steps to see another Fall close by, if you're not able to take the steps. As you make your way back down from the top, you will see how steep the falls are and how swiftly the water flows. It was inspiring to see the incredible work that Falls had carved in the rock over hundreds of years. The amazing fact is the Falls are basically a "vertical, fast flowing river inside of a mountain". To clarify, the trail/steps down actually weave in and out of the mountain - all 10 Falls are not completely contained inside the mountain. Each Fall has its own beauty and method for making its way down from the summit to the base of the mountain. You can view the pictures, but until you experience the falls yourself, hear the loud thunder of the Falls and fell the spray in your face, you will not know the true thrill of the Falls. So, be sure that you put the Trümmelbach Falls on your list of "Must See" attractions when you are the area. You will most definitely be glad you did - we were. read more

This is a beautiful place. There are many areas for great photos. Also, you will get wet, so bring a raincoat. We had a rain cover on our backpacks as well. The view from the top near the elevator is great. There are stairs - LOTS of stairs. They do have an elevator that goes up to about the sixth level but there are no stops in between. So if you want to see all of it you are going to have to either climb up all the way and ride back down or vice versa. We opted to climb all of the stairs on the way up and then ride back down so it would be easier on our knees. This attraction can be pretty touristy and it was crowded when we went in October, which is considered the off-season. This would be a good rainy day activity. read more

This is spectacular!! I've lived in NZ and seen many waterfalls but this is great. You have to pay 11 Swiss francs each entrance and they don't take credit cards but this is truly worth it. I'd been to the area before and had no idea this was here, I'd highly recommend it if you enjoy waterfalls or for a bad weather alternative in the area. It's about a gentle 50-60 minute walk from Lauterbrunnen town. There is a lift inside the mountain which makes this accessible to most people. The lift takes you to the mid point of the waterfalls of which there are 10. You can walk up to the 6-10 or if less able down only seeing 5 waterfalls and still enjoy stunning views. My favourites were the corkscrew one and 1+2 near the exit. On a nice day, the view from the exit is also good of the glacier valley. read more

We didn't even realize this was here until we walked past it. We decided to pay the small entrance fee (which we were debating for a while) and it was well worth it! The waterfalls carve their way through the cliff side in an extraordinary way. If you're a fan of waterfalls, this is going to blow you away. There is really no reason not to come. The stairs are a little wet, so watch your step. I highly recommend going all the way to the top to see all ten waterfalls. read more

My friend and I only had one day to spend in Interlaken. The front desk staff at our hostel recommended going to the falls as the weather forecast called for rain so many other outdoor activities were being cancelled. We ended up going to the falls and had a great time. The falls and surrounding area are gorgeous and definitely worth seeing! Make sure to bring waterproof rain coat. The waterfall is very powerful and you will get sprayed. plenty of tourists as we saw many tour buses but it is still worth to go. You can take the lift to go to cascade 6-10 and take stairs down to see the rest of the cascades but what we found out was that the line was long if you are stuck behind a group of tourists. So we decided to take the stairs to skip the long line and enjoy the 10 cascades and took the lift to go down as there was no line going down. This is also a good option when the weather is bad outside. This summer has been pretty wet according to locals and out of 3 days staying in murren, only 1 day was somewhat clear and dry. read more

We read about this attraction in the Rick Steves Switzerland guide but didn't think we would end up here because we had totally different plans. However, the weather changed all of that and we ended up spending a day in Lauterbrunnen (a worthwhile place in and of itself). It was kind of a last minute decision to add Trümmelbach Falls to our itinerary and I'm so glad we did because it was super cool. I'd never even seen one waterfall inside of a mountain before and there are supposedly ten of them! Some of them were so powerful they literally took my breath away. Even on a hot summer day, be prepared to get cold and bring a rain jacket because you will get wet. Also, it's good to know that the funicular will only take you partway up so if you want to go all the way to the top, you need to climb some stairs. Lastly, I am pretty claustrophobic and was worried about that before going in but everything turned out fine. read more

We hiked up to the Trümmelbach Falls made of ten glacial waterfalls inside the mountain coming from the three highest mountains. It spews up to 20,000 litres of water a second - and it was bloody fast. We went most of the way up by lift, built into the mountain, and then walked the rest of the way up and the the way back down. The water was flowing so fast anywhere between -2 and 2 degrees, it comes straight off the glaciers. The water was twisting and turning inside the mountain, one fall was even called the corkscrew. We stopped at the bottom for hot chocolates but the rain caught us ten minutes before we got back to camp. read more

There are many waterfalls within Switzerland that require you to trek inside a mountain or gorge. So far, this one is one of my favorite. The park is open between early April - November. It only costs 11 CHF to get in for adults. Their is a souvenir shop, restroom, and self service cafe. You can trek up the stairs to the top, or take the tunnel lift and walk down. Once inside the mountain the trail is illuminated, but watch out as it can be wet. Once inside, you will be amazed by the beauty of cascading water. In total, there are ten glacier-waterfalls inside the mountain and the falls carries up to 20,000 Liters of water per second. Their are viewing platforms throughout the journey inside the mountain, and then back down. While inside the mountain you will be reminded of the amazing power of nature, as the sound of all that water fills your ears. What a beautiful place. Once you are done visiting the falls, you can stop by the self service cafe and enjoy one of the many delicious home made pastries. There were so many delicious looking pastries to choose from, it was hard to pick! Each of my friends chose something different, and we all tried a bit of each others food. Most of the time I was scared walking up the steps due to the dim lights but the views are breathtaking! You have the options of taking the elevator or hiking up... I picked the elevator. Although it is quite an impressive engineering feat to build a series of tunnels right in the middle of a series of waterfalls, it sure scared the heck out of me walking through them. A gentle stroll from Lauterbrunnen, a bus or a good hike down from the plateau above takes you to these staggering falls. From the outside, there is a pleasant river/stream and peace and quiet. A lift takes you up into the cliffs and you are then faced with the thundering falls - ten in all. The power of the water is immense, the noise too. Tip: Bring a waterproof - it's cold in there and you can get pretty wet from the spray of the falls. You descend the cliff on paths - protected by an iron rail from falling. If you're dodgy around heights, then you might want someone to hang on to. read more
