My husband and I had reached out to three mortgage brokers and banks when we looked to refinance our home in May of 2021. During that period of time, there were a ton of both purchases and refinances and, as a result, we were quoted that the time to process was running into months, not weeks. Also, because we had been previously been burned with an appraiser coming from out-of-area on a refinance of a previous home, and because banking regulations are such that you can no longer pick an appraiser, we made the decision that we were not going to just trust one bank or broker for the refinance, and boy am I glad we did not. The first company we applied to was more online-based and AI-driven...assuring us along the way that, YES, they could handle our loan. The sad truth is, they should never have accepted our money because, NO, they couldn't. If you have anything other than a very-straightforward home loan, do not use Ally. And even then, their rates were not the most competitive. The second company was a private bank. Ultimately, they could have done the loan but the rate was 1/4 of a point higher and we would have had to wait an additional month to have the loan processed. The third company was Trustlink Mortgage and Jason Foreman. Not only was Jason right on top of everything, every step of the way, but he made sure that we had an appraiser that had done appraisals in our area at our home-value price point. He started three weeks behind the other two companies and had it done one month before the private bank. Bottom line is, Jason Forman is absolutely the best mortgage broker I have dealt with in my many years of dealing with mortgage brokers and banks. In fact, he just set me up with a mortgage broker on the other side of the country, with no financial benefit to him, and offered to shepherd the process since he has all my documentation! Use him.
