Stanfield's Factory Outlet - the old factory windows

Stanfield's Factory Outlet

(3 reviews)

As their website says, "Specializing in seconds and clearings of Stanfield's® products. Quality…read moreproducts at outlet pricing." I would never have walked into this outlet location had it not been for my mother, whose bargain-locator nose always seems to be successful in finding hidden treasures whether from Frenchys, Sears, or Stanfields. It's a small little location, with a tiny little entrance which you'd almost miss against the imposing brick of the rest of the factory. It houses "seconds" in bins on the sales floor and "firsts" on racks around the walls. If I was going to be buying underwear (omg am I really writing a review about this???) I'll be honest and say I'd likely be buying something a little more high end and less practical than what they make at Stanfields, but they also have t-shirts, socks, jackets, yoga clothes, turtle necks, lounging pants, and all kinds of other things. Prices are definitely outlet pricing, so it's worth checking this spot out from time to time to see what treasures you can beat my mother at locating. I walked out with a couple of bags of stuff for $25. Check it out.

Today I visited this store for the first time; from Halifax. I had a very unpleasant expierence. It…read morehas a 2 room setup. I started looking in the first room, unaware of the second room. Being that I just had a long drive I suddenly had to use the washroom. I asked a sweet young girl if they had a washroom and she pointed it out to me in the second room. I had picked up a hat (grey beanie for $3.99), I thought my father would be interested in, and he had made his way into this second room. So before going to the bathroom I gave it to him to see if he was interested in it. Later I had made my way back into the first room where I was approached (loudly and rudely) by an older woman not sure of her name however I would say she was in her 50's. In front of other customers she raised her voice "what did you do with the grey hat?" I said excuse me? She said "the grey hat you took over to the other room". I looked for my father who was in the room and asked him what he did with it, he said he gave it to my mother. Mom was also there and I asked her what she did with the hat, she said she left it in the other room. The woman that had been questioning me then raised her voice at my mother asking her where in the other room had she put it. All while commenting to 2 other customers about me taking this hat. She got her hat!!!!! And lost 3 customers... And gosh knows how many others. I'm a 36 year old professional woman who has never been treated like a thief before, let alone for a 3.99 hat at a factory outlet store. I commented to the younger sweet clerk that I felt like she was accusing me of stealing and I was told they had someone steal at shirt there last week. Wow certainly doesn't mean you can treat people like that! Then this same woman came back and was talking to the other customers saying that she doesn't know what it is however she doesn't like having anything out of place!!! (Does she know she works in retail?) Really??? On our way out at the dirty cash we counted 4 coffee cups and 3 pop cans and wrappers... Perhaps she should put those things in there place and concentrate less about being ignorant to paying customers. I do not recommend going here.

Sunnyside Mall in Bedford is more upscale than most and definitely worth the drive from Halifax if…read moreyou're looking for trendy, somewhat pricey merchandise. You'll find a fabulous Pete's Frootique, stocked quite differently from the one downtown and right next door is Cristall & Luckett Wine Merchants with a great wine selection from around the world. Prices range from $13 to ...well high and will go with any delicacy you've purchased at Pete's. As for fashion, there are clothes for kids at Bib & Tucker, as well as a number of shops for men and women that are unique and not your typical mall selection. One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. And lastly, if you're into local handicrafts, there's a market just for you on Sundays from 11-5.

That being said, it has some unique stores and a pleasant artsy vibe (especially on the end of the mall that houses Pete's Frootique). The mall is mainly centered around Pete's Frootique as a prime destination, and prime destination it is.. It's somewhat comparable to "Whole Foods" in the US albeit on a smaller scale, but it makes up for its small size with a huge variety of food items that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

Upon searching for model shops while spending a weekend in Windsor, NS, I happened upon this one,…read moreadvertised interestingly as "the only hobby store in the valley". (Uh, okay, then. Way to save me some time, I guess). I checked for a website, and while giving me location info, does, according to Google, suggest that there may be a virus on their host page's end. Fortunately, I didn't take that as a reason to avoid the place altogether, which in the end, was a good decision. (Note to self: tell the owner about it next time through Windsor). I don't know what I expected when coming into the small town store, but found myself pleasantly surprised by the selection available. In addition to the run-of -the-mill kits available by the big names (Revell, etc) there were a few more exotic labels to be seen as well. There was also more of a kit variety available too, including some harder to find items and vehicles of several sorts. There were also a few interesting assembly pieces in stock that I haven't routinely seen on shelf in some of the other stores I frequent, such as an air compressor converter piece and a handy model glue dispensing pen I was happy to exchange some coin for. There are also some additional items for sale in-store, as I suspect, as many mom&pop (but mostly pop) stores do, which included an R/C section, and a respectable section dedicated to sport fishing. Upon purchase of my finds (plus a really swell model of a Ford 427 engine), I engaged the owner in a bit of a chat, and found him quite knowledgeable about his work. Being a serious modeler himself, he seemed quite interested in keeping quality materials in stock when available, and seemed quite knowledgeable of "the scene", recommending that I check out at least one or 2 upcoming model shows in the province. All in all, a good find. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

As I entered I was challenged with the question "what are you looking for?". I said I was a new member of the Annapolis Valley IPMS. The reply i got was "we don't do that anymore". I of course said "do what?" He said "radio control". I said thanks and turned on my heel and left. I am away from my home staying in the Valley and I have more kits at my temporary apartment than this business has. They have nothing, that could see that I can't get at Rewards In the Greenwood Mall. This experience is two hours of my life that I can't get back.
