We have been missing this restaurant since it "temporarily" closed in the early days of this Covid…read more We have been waiting since but it has not reopened yet. Since we moved from Vancouver to the island 3 years ago, this restaurant is the best Vietnsmese food we have had in this island. We finally broke down today and did a take out from well reviewed Vietnamese restaurant in Nanaimo today. But no comparison. This restaurant we did a take out was so much more expensive and not very good. We said to each other how we miss Pho Ti. I am writing to encourage the owners to reopen if they are reading this.

I got take-out once and ate in once but I won't be going back…read more When I was ordering take out for my family, I called and asked for 3 orders of pork and shrimp salad rolls and 2 orders of spring rolls. The person on the phone kept saying 2 salad rolls per order, which I knew. That's why I specifically asked for 3 orders and not 2 salad rolls. This went in a circle for a good 3 minutes and I finally said that I would come there and order. When I got there, I took the menu and showed her that I wanted 3 orders of A1 (the menu number) and 2 orders of A3. The food didn't take too long but when I got it home she still had it wrong and only sent 1 order of spring rolls. Not a great first impression. A couple of weeks later, I went to have dinner with a friend hoping that they had worked out the kinks..... No such luck. When we got there it was about half full. We took a table at the back and were brought water right away, but no menus. After about 15 minutes I had to ask and then we got them. Both my friend and I ordered spring rolls to start and different dishes. It took a very long time and when we were served, it was our main course, and mine was wrong. I pointed out that my meal was supposed to have two kinds of pork and it didn't. He said sorry and went to the kitchen to bring me a fork, which I didn't need. Again, I said that my meal was incorrect and also pointed out that we had not received our appetizers. He went back to the kitchen and came back with another employee. I explained again that my dish was missing one of the pork items. She looked at my plate, pointed at the pork that was there and said "that pork". I was getting really frustrated at this point so I picked up the menu and showed her the description of the meal. She finally acknowledged that what I had ordered was not what I had, but said that they had decided not to used that kind of pork anymore (it is listed on several dishes on the menu and nowhere does it say they don't have it or they are out). I was not told that when I ordered because if I had known, I would have chosen something else. When I said that she smiled and walked away. Realizing that I would not be getting any resolution I ate it and it was not bad. Our spring rolls finally came when we were done our meals but I didn't want to sit there anymore so I took them home for my daughter. When I got the bill, I was charged for the whole dish, even though it was missing 1/3. Disappointing as I was excited for them to open so close to home.

An absolute gem in Nanaimo!…read more upon the recommendation of a very good buddy, on my way to tofino, i passed by nanaimo for a hearty lunch in this family owned Vietnamese restaurant. Staff and owner very hospitable and welcoming! never in my wildest imagination did i expect to find excellent Vietnamese food the city of Nanaimo. this restaurant puts many Vancouver restaurants to shame. Their level of dedication to their craft is admirable and impressive. For appys...We started with fried wontons and the beef roll. My on my, the wontons were crispy-liciously goood! They were not your typical chinese fried wontons...the wrapper is paper thin and had a yellowish colour. And its because they used the spring roll wrapper to make It, making it super extra crispy. The pork filling was hot and juicy. Seasoned perfextly With a touch of cumin. One bite, and you will be in wonton heaven. the beef roll was truly a unique masterpiece. Whoever thought of putting a friend spring roll inside a salad roll and enveloping it with grill beef is a total genius!! You get a plethora of different textures and flavour profiles. With every bite, you get crunchiness of the spring roll, smokiness of the grilled beef, green leafy vegetables, and juiciness of the pork filling...all rolled into 1 roll! How could you possibly go wrong? Its a masterpiece like that of the mona lisa! We also tried the beef curry. Succulent pieces of beef slowly simmered rich thai curry sauce, Complimented by soft jasmine rice. Not a vietnamese dish, but executed with perfection. Curry was rich and robust. Quality coconut Milk and curry paste was used. Now..unto the pho!!! the ultimate test of an excellent Vietnamese restaurant is the PHO. More specifically, the PHO Broth! the PHo here is nothing short of spectacular! You can tell bec of 3 important factors. One, the aroma. Two, the clarity of the soup ( aka i how clear is it). And three, the taste! ( how deep the beef essence is!) This place exceeded expectations and passed with full flying colours! One sip of the broth, reminded me of vietnam. It was absolutely amazing! Head and shoulders above many restaurants in vancouver. Plus, no msg was used. We never felt Thirsty or craving tea. I could tell there was a lot of time, labour, and love invested into making the broth. No shortcuts! Just sheer excellence from chef. I feel very blessed to have been a patron of such fine vietnamese cuisine. Definitely a must try when in the city of Nanaimo. Service was quick and efficient. Will i repeat? As many times as i can! ;) Cheers! Happy eating!

We had made…read morereservations a few weeks prior to our trip and I would highly recommend making a reservation if you plan on coming here. The restaurant was packed and the kitchen was hustling. There were so many beautiful and creative dishes passing by our table all night long; if I lived here, this would definitely become one of my regular places to go. The service was quick and friendly. The food was incredible; really fresh and presented beautifully. We had met up with a neighbour who had moved to the area and we ended up staying until the place closed. It was just a lovely evening overall. I would definitely recommend Nori for delicious Japanese cuisine but be sure to make a reservation!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE If you've a hankering for Asian…read morecuisine in Nanaimo and there's only one place you could go to, Nori should be one of your top picks! Good food, good service, and in a place with good vibes. === 2. FOOD When dining at lunch, the lunch specials offer incredible value; each option includes 4-piece California roll, small green salad, 2-piece gyoza, 2-piece prawn tempura, a miso soup, and a side dish ("okazu") of the day. Some thoughts: - The portions are decent even if you're hungry! - The prawn tempura (at least today) feel more batter than prawn. - The okazu (at least today) was fried - a fancy spring roll - which is interesting as side dishes in Japan in this context are often fish-based?). - Overall, the food quality is good. Buta Shoga Lunch Special ($22) Shoyu, ginger-marinated pork on rice - a good heart-warming combo as any! Sashimi & Sushi Lunch Special ($23) 6 pieces of sashimi (salmon and tuna) and three pieces of sushi (also salmon and tuna) make this lunch special one of the healthier options on the menu. Chashu Miso Ramen ($18) My little guy loves noodles, even if it comes in piping-hot pork bone broth. Depending on your little one, kids 6 and under in age may need a grown-up to help finish this dish! === 3. SERVICE The place is POPULAR and so be prepared to wait. One the most recent visit during lunch, we were lucky to slide in fairly quickly and the servers were fairly prompt and professional. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's basic, yet has a modern open-view environment with a view of the bar/kitchen from across the restaurant. It's similar in vibe to its sister restaurant nearby (Horang) but the service is better and diners with small children will find more appealing seating options here. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would fit just fine and your chance at finding a place to park in the shopping complex lot outside is pretty decent!
