BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL and did I mention BEAUTIFUL?!?!? We traveled to Trunk Bay from St. Thomas and it was WELL worth it! We came here to snorkle...and can you believe we forgot our snorklet gear?!?!? If you are traveling from St. Thomas, i costs $6 per adult/per way and its a short 15-20 boat ride. From there, catch a taxi, which I believe for two of us it was about $16. Get there early! We got there at 730 am (and didnt have to pay the apparent entry fee) and were the only ones on the beach and it was AWESOME! Around 9/930, folks started to arrive and by the time we left, around 130ish, it was getting quite busy and crowded in the water. They have the beautiful snorkle trail with underwater signs! But DO NOT stand on the rocks or reefs or you WILL GET YELLED AT by the lifeguards! They do also have snorkle gear to rent ($3 for mask with a $15 deposit per person)...unfortienetly, you do have to put a deposit down for everything you rent, so bring lots of cash! They do have a nice shower/changing area to rinse off at as well! Very well kept and absolutely gorgeous! So pack yourself a nice lunch, get there early and hvae a fabu time at Trunk Bay! read more

This is the most beautiful beach I have seen. If you are wondering if you should go there or not, wonder no more. The view is stunning, and the water is extremely clear. They have chairs and snorkel gear to rent there. The only thing is that they do not have any umbrellas, but they do have chairs that have a small tarp that gives you shade. The rentals and showers close at about 4:30 so try to get there early enough to enjoy beach! read more

Trunk Bay is amazing! Love the beach and the clear blue water. First off, took a taxi here from Cruz bay, roughly $6 per person. You get a great view of the beach on the drive, it does cost to get into the national park area, they do take credit cards too. They do have some amenities here and rentals. The beach itself had ample room, there was 1 cruise ship on St. Thomas on the day we went, so it didn't seem too crowded. They have a bar here with beers and some mixed cocktails. The food hut here has some good options too, we got a burger and fries, pretty tasty to me. The souvenir shop has some pretty cool options of stuff to buy. They do let you bring coolers here too. If you're in the Virgin Islands, Trunk Bay has some of the best scenery and is a great way to spend a day. read more

Based on other reviews, we got there about 9am. We were the only ones there other than an Bride and Groom getting married. Make sure to bring your national park pass for a discount entry fee. The beach is beautiful. White sand that is so soft. We picked a place under a tree and put down our rented chairs and hit the water. Snorkeled and had lunch. Then relaxed before leaving in the early afternoon. It started to get more crowded around 10 or so, but still not a packed beach. We debated about going since taxi to get there, entry fee, gear rental, etc added up for two and we have seen many beaches on our trips. But so glad we went. It was a perfect day! read more

Locals are quick to call this place a "tourist trap". I dunno. It's still pretty damn perfect. It's one of the only tropical beaches I've been to, but I fear I might be ruined for others I visit in the future! The day of our visit, we were warned by the park service that a strong current made the water virtually unswimmable, and our $5 entrance fee was unrefundable even if we chose to leave immediately. We went for it anyway, and I'm glad we did. The beach was quieter than I think it might be most days, and we went thigh-deep in the water to cool off. The snorkel trail was closed. Word to the wise: check out weather conditions online, or call, before beach-going (North Shore beaches like Trunk and Magen's on STT seem to be particularly affected). Taxi drivers can and will take advantage of unsuspecting tourists by dropping you off at a beach that is not swimmable that day. read more

Spring time in USVI- snorkel heaven!! Ahhhhhh~ I've been to Fiji, Bali, Indonesia, Australia, Borneo, Hawaii all for the sake of seeing pretty reefs and fish but the best was right in the back yard. Sort of. This is by the most beautiful beach I've been on. Maybe a close second to Fiji but it beat out all the other places I've been to. Imagine that? It even beats out the water huts in eastern Borneo. White sand- beautiful powdery white sand! Stunning water: not cold, not hot. Just perfect. And that long stretch of beach without all them tourists or hustle and bustle. Such a bliss. There is one place near by that open for a quick lunch but that's about it. Taxi cabs ( open trucks) will bring you here for $10 per person from town, Cruz bay or ferry dock. Make sure you buy your food, water and all that etc. There's nothing around here. Driving was out of the question for me on this island. All those hills, wrong side of the road etc etc. Taxis will wait for your return too. But make sure you don't leave too late. I'd say leave around 5 pm if you are not driving. Else you'd be stranded here on the this beautiful beach with birds, fish and damn Iguanas!!!!!! But with all the blues around, being stranded here wouldn't be half as bad. Floating-sleeping- snorkeling or simply gazing at this beauty. Ahhhh- will makes you love earth again.! read more

When I think of Trunk Bay I want to sing the theme to Golden Girls. Because my new best friend is Trunk Bay.... BFF! OK, I'm the girl who shows up to the pool with lashes, heels and earrings. Yes I have NO plans of getting in the water. I'm a black girl with a weave.... I'm not about to get it wet. I was warned before I arrived @ Trunk Bay, its so beautiful you will want to get in. OK fine. I went and got what I call my "swim hair" and proceeded. Once we got off the ferry and the "cab" ride of doom. Dang those cabbies drive crazy, we finally arrive. It was after hours I suppose so the facilities were closed but hey we were fine. Trunk Bay is the most amazing view I've seen with my own two eyes. The water is beautifully clear and warm. I was in that water like a fish.... Until I saw a stingray and he chased me back to shore. I can't wait to return. read more

This isn't rated one of the worlds top beaches for no reason. The scenery was absolutely beautiful! We got there early on a Sunday at around 10am and there was little to no one there, felt like a private beach. There is a $4 entry fee per adult, but parking is free. Snorkeling was fun, only $10 to rent gear for 2 adults but a $50 deposit. There is a snorkeling trail, ample beach space, but it gets a little crowded in the afternoon. Facilities are clean (showers, bathrooms, snack shack, full bar, etc). This beach is paradise! A must if you are visiting St. John's! Shopping is prior to the beach about a mile or two before. read more

One of the most beautiful beaches I've been to. Silky soft white sand, clear blue water and plenty of natural shade on the beach from the trees. This beach is actually run by the National Forrest Service so its pretty clean and even offers private showers and bathrooms. The snack shack offered good food at very reasonable prices (its so remote that you would think they would gouge you but sodas were $1.25 and a burger was $6) If you are visiting St. Thomas, I HIGHLY recommend making the trip to St. John and visiting this beautiful beach. read more

Gorgeous sea and sand. Blue Blue Blue. The snorkel trail is kind of fun. There are stone tablets under the water you can look/dive down and read. Some are about fish you might be seeing. Others describe the coral. For divers and experienced snorkelers, the area to explore is rather small and inevitably crowded. This is THE beach touted in all of St. John's tourist guides. One of my favorite beach days EVER. If you remember nothing else I say in this review, try to retain this piece of advice...Do NOT go here when there are cruise ships docked in St Thomas. If you do, the crowds will spoil your time here. Here's my instructions on how to have an awesome beach day...Parking is limited so you'll need to create your own spot. Bring a chair or be prepared to spring about $7 for one (plus $25 deposit for each that you rent). Grab a Presidente at the snack bar (only $3!). Go set up camp under a tree on the beach. Proceed to drink, read, swim, sun, etc for the remainder of the day. Thank me later. read more

This is hands down the most beautiful beach I have ever seen thus far !!!! The waters are as clear as glass and it is the perfect temperature! The sand feels very smooth and you will not want to leave when you visit! There is a $5 admission fee and they have showers and clean facilities for you to use. Also, you are allowed to bring in whatever you want to drink as long as it isn't glass. I went to St. Thomas for the week and took the ferry over to St.John and now am wanting to go back to strictly St.John! read more

Decent beach at a US National Park. There are adequate bathrooms and changing rooms. You are able to rent snorkel gear and chairs from a vendor. Chairs were $10/day. But they go quickly. I got the last before noon. There is a concession stand - but it's pricey. Ting with a sting was $8. Hamburgers $18... this makes makes an adult beverage for the adults reasonable, but feeding the kiddos a bit of a budget buster. Do note however that food and beverage in the Carribean is notoriously expensive. The beach itself is very nice - some shade is available earlier in the day via the natural fauna - but that's it - so bring the sunscreen and plenty of water. read more

World Class Beach. Does cost to get in, but has bathrooms and showers. It's just a trip that people will spend thousands of dollars to get to St. John, then whine like a little girl about paying a couple of dollars to lay on one of the best beaches on the planet. I use to live in St. Thomas, and me and my family would go there ever couple weeks. The only downfall is if there are multiple boats in port it can get crowded. It's not like there are not three more world class beaches within walking distance. Cinnamon Bay is the next beach over and it very rarely gets crowded. The whole freaking island is awesome!!!! Great beach! Decently large. Has what I hear is a great underwater snorkeling trail, but we didn't get to use it because the high surf closed the trail the day I went : ( It's a national park, so they government keeps things clean and orderly - no aggressive locals hawking their goods. There is a decent snack shack (yummy guava dacquari!) that serves surprisingly good food and prices that are less outrageous than expected. The water's warm, the sand is soft. Come check it out! On another note, I happened to like Magen's Bay on St. Thomas just a little bit more, but maybe that's because I didn't go snorkeling at either location. read more

White sand beach, turquoise water = relaxing day. St John is beautiful, I wish we could have spent more time here. Spent about 2.5 hours at the beach. You can rent snorkel equipment, there is a changing area and a little fast food place. I wish they had more food options. Everything at the place was fried. This is by far the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. It is small, the water is warm and clearer than anything imaginable, the sand is soft. It is so relaxing here, it feels like paradise. There is not a huge tide, so if you like to play in the waves, you might get bored here. The beach is on St. Johns National Park, so there is lush greenery surrounding the area. They have a natural underwater guided reef, which is cool, and you can rent snorkel gear for only $5. The food is reasonable, a burger is $5, beer is only $3. Watch out for the birds though, they will come after your lunch if you leave it unattended for even a minute. Very attentive lifeguards as well. One thing to keep in mind- it can be pricy to get there from St. Thomas. We took a $10 cab to Red Hook, took the $6 ferry to St. John, then a $6 cab to Trunk Bay. Just to get there, it was $22 per person, so round trip was $44 each, and we went twice during our week in St. Thomas. Might be worth renting a car and taking the car ferry if you have a group with you. read more

This definitely was a paradise to be envied by any beach seeker. I enjoyed the snorkeling all of the beautiful creatures between the sea turtles even some cave exploring that of friends took part in and all the while enjoying the beautiful sun and the white powdery beaches. Heck. Yes. Depending on cruise ship schedules, this place can get a bit crowded, but even then there is plenty of beach space to spread out and do whatever your PG-13 self would want to indulge in. There's a little waterfall thing at one edge but I preferred spending most of my time swimming, floating, and marveling at the fact that I could accomplish it all with a drink in my hand. Absolutely stunning, secluded beach with calm crystal clear water and trees all around. If you're staying on St. John this is a great destination for a day at the beach. If you're coming into St. Thomas, as I was, then it's a bit of a journey (mind you, I was on a cruise excursion so I didn't have to really do anything but show up) but still worth it for the tranquility, beautiful views, warm waters, and amazing snorkeling trail. Wow what a spectacular bay to visit on St John in the Virgin Islands. I recently went here on a snorkelling tour which was organised through our cruise ship Royal Princess. We arrived into St Thomas and was then transferred via the 'Island Girl' boat to St John for the day. You know when you see picture perfect post cards of the Caribbean well this spot would be one of the pictures! Pure white squeaky sand in a bay of clear Aqua blue waters & surrounded by lush greenery! For me, the snorkelling wasn't that great, but I think that's because I've been spoilt previously from the Great Barrier Reef & the South Pacific islands. Yes There was coral & fish to see for sure. Loved the underwater information plaques & guides to help you along. Another comforting fact is that there is lifeguards on duty at the beach. I would recommend a visit here for sure & would definitely go back if I'm in the Caribbean again. read more

Loved every moment at this picturesque beach! It's worth the $5 entry fee. As a mom, I loved that there were fresh water showers , snack bar, equipment rental & a bar! A fun surprise was the village of hermit crabs that live in the jungle next to pathway to the beach. The snorkeling trail was huge hit for the entire family! Place was ok... didn't like the fact that we had return the rented chairs at 3:30pm... way to early! Also the place closes quickly after. The snorkeling was good, saw a lot of fish, however, the trail was no big deal. I saw nicer fish and reef at coki beach. Best of all u need to pay to go to the park / beach .. waste of money. These Virgin islands are gorgeous, including this spot; it gave it 3 stars because there are better places to choose. 3:30pm basically a deal breaker. read more

AMAZING SNORKELING!! AWESOME WHITE SAND!! CLEAR BLUE WARM WATER!! I highly recommend a trip to Trunk Bay when visiting St. John. We rented a Jeep for the day but there are many Safari Taxis and tours available. Parking is limited but worth waiting for! Starting from St Thomas it was a trek to get to Trunk Bay. We took a taxi to a ferry then another taxi to Trunk Bay. The taxi driver pulled off a couple of times so we could enjoy the view and take photos. The expanse of the beach and the color of the water was breath taking. It was an unspoiled area for enjoying the beach and snorkeling. There was a small shack renting snorkel equipment. The mask and flippers were $10 for the day. They also had chairs available for rent. A short trail went down steps to the ocean. The crowd was comfortable. The water felt as good as it looked. There was an underwater snorkeling trail if you chose to follow it. The snorkeling was rewarding. The shower area was shared by men and women. To limit water usage, you had to press the shower button frequently. It was adequate to rinse off the salt water and sand. Unfortunately there weren't hooks or a bench to hang towels and/or dry clothes. We had a limited time to stay at Trunk Bay due to the travel time. I recommend allowing 3+ hours to really enjoy the experience. read more

At that moment, when I was told, about this scene, by some ranger, some tax, boating by, this idea of what these people are doing here, I wanted to issue a full Bodhi from "Point Break" line; but I thought of that and just went with the Red Hot Chili Pepper's line reading from that movie in my head: "That. Trunk Bay is the most famous beach on St. John and possibly the most famous and most beautiful beach in all the Caribbean. It has perfect powdery white sand and an under water snorkel trail with plaques describing the various items that snorklers can see on the bottom. No visit to St. John is complete without a visit to Trunk Bay. Run by the National Park, there is a fee to access the beach from land, $4 for visitors, but free for kids under 16. There are bathroom and changing facilities at the beach and you can rent snorkel gear. read more
