Considering this location was in the soft launch stage, I will show some grace. Since we opened our account with Truity back in 2019 I have always been a firm believer that this is truly a better way to bank. There were only 2 locations in Lawrence, the only branches in Kansas at the time. Now they have 4 branches in Lawrence, 2 in Olathe and 1 in Shawnee...marking 7 branches total in Kansas now.
I have had the same debit card since I opened my account in 2019, but it was misplaced over the weekend and instead of calling into customer service to have a new card mailed I was crossing my fingers that this location was open, so I could have one printed on site. I absolutely adore the perk that cards can be made upon request, because most banks you have to wait for a new card to come in the mail; one of the many reasons to love Truity!
From my usual experience based in Lawrence the staff is always friendly and warm. Whether I needed to deposit a check, withdraw money or open a new account I have never had an issue with customer service until I visited this branch.
I was so excited to see a place where we have banked for years be so close to home and I was ready to establish a great relationship with people that will probably see me often. Upon arriving I noticed they have ITM, not ATMs. ITM's are new to me and I think it's a smart move given how much technology has advanced.
When I finally made my way inside, I was greeted with icy disdain from the branch manager Stephanie Thomason. Maybe because I had to bring my curious toddler with me and I get not everyone "enjoys children"...I thought Truity was a place for families to feel welcome especially with the upcoming events including a Family Fun Day with the Easter bunny, bounce house and a scavenger hunt; but maybe only tolerated during certain events?
The senior member consultant Samuel Duncan ended up assisting me with getting a new debit card. We went through the normal process of asking what happened to the last and picking out a design for the new card. I decided to go with the previous design I already had because I'm used to looking for that color when I'm pulling it out of my wallet. As I wait I snap a few pics because the architecture of these new builds are very nice! Shortly after Samuel returns with a confused look on his face, then informed me the machine accidentally printed the wrong design. I wasn't in a hurry so I let him know I could wait for the correct design to be printed and then I was told that it was a code issue an would continue to print out the same way....also that it wasn't an issue that could be fixed by the staff in house as it is serviced my a "card provider".
Not sure if this is just a soft opening glitch, but it turned my first experience here into a huge disappointment. No warm welcome, no invitation to the beautiful coffee station, no information about the upcoming events, no smile and leaving with a card design I would never pick. If I wasn't already a member knowing how great this establishment is, I definitely would not have signed up for an account here this day.
I'm really hoping the codes for the cards are updated as soon as possible and that the Grand Opening was a way for the staff to get excited about being in Shawnee as the residents are to have a Truity Credit Union. read more
