Truity Credit Union - Banks & Credit Unions Near Me - Lawrence, Kansas

I'm doing research now to find a different financial institution. The downtick in my satisfaction started a couple of years ago, about the time a service fee was initiated. A little later the easily-accessible branch was closed. We're eagerly awaiting the flashy space age improvements... My current issue is that in January, online vendors stopped accepting my debit card that expires in April. Truity suggested I give them my account and routing numbers but that is not easily done online, i.e., order forms want a credit or debit card number. When I pressed Truity, they agreed to send me a new card via 2-day mail. Three days later, the card still isn't here and, since Truity cancelled the old card number, I have no access to my funds. I am 70 years old, don't own a car, and have fallen ill in the meantime. I can't pay for prescriptions my doctor called in. Luckily, a friend was willing to give the pharmacy her credit card info but, still, I'm disappointed with Truity. They assure me the card will be here by the day after tomorrow, a Saturday. Until then, still no access to my money and if the card doesn't arrive on Saturday, I'm screwed until Monday. read more

Really hate doing this, but Truity Credit Union is so unhelpful. DO NOT rely on your debit card as your only form of payment on your accounts because the number on the back of the card may not be able to solve your problem if a transaction is flagged for fraud. Sometimes, it's the corporate office that puts the flag on, and if it's over the weekend and/or a holiday, you are just out of luck. Both our cards were flagged this weekend, and the people in India at the number on the back of the card were no help. WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE SOMEONE WORKING WHO CAN SOLVE THESE TYPES OF ISSUES? Left my debit card in their ATM. Was first in line the next day to get it back. Explained I was leaving on a long trip and was so glad they had it, and said I won't need to take out any cash now. Four hours from home I try to get gas. They had shut down my card. Of course, you can't speak to anyone at the actual branch. They make you call Oklahoma. Customer "service" kept me on the line for 45 minutes and still hadn't bothered to call the Lawrence branch and ask what happened. And they were about to close for the day. They offered no resolution. No one cared I was a single mother with no money or credit cards, and now no debit card, five hours from home at that point, and with no way to put gas in my car, no way to feed my 14-year-old daughter, no way to pay for our motel. Found a local manager's number on a Chamber of Commerce website. Left voice mail. No response. Had to beg my boss to use our company credit card. She had to call, on a weekend, to increase my limit. Ok, let me start of by saying, bluntly, if you do your banking at a traditional bank, well, you're just foolish. Use a credit union instead. For those un-aware, basically credit unions serve all the same functions and roles as a bank. The major difference is that instead of being for-profit privately owned institutions, credit unions are owned by the people that bank there. This means as a member you get all sorts of good things like better interest rates, lowered/non-existent fees, better service, and generally a much, much better experience. Instead of being 100% focused on the bottom line and making an old white guy richer, credit unions tend to re-invest their profits into providing these services. Ok, that out of the way, what makes KU Credit Union so awesome? Simply put, absolutely everything. I primarily use their 31st St. branch because it's close to home. It's small, but then I'd rather my money go to support customer service and a better return than buying a big shiny building with leather lobby furniture. The staff there is phenomenally courteous and efficient. If they notice my savings account is getting close to a certain level, they'll politely inform me that I could transfer into a different account and earn better interest. If I choose to, they can do it quickly and right then on the spot. What other financial institution offers to help MAKE you money? Their 23rd and Naismith location is their newest, and it conceptually is my favorite experience I've ever had at a financial institution. The first thing you'll notice upon entering is it looks radically different than a normal bank. Gone are the imposing counters, barriers between you and the tellers(i.e. your money). Instead, several elbow high counters are dotted across the landscape, as are some comfy chairs and couches. The entire building is wifi networked and all the tellers function on laptops. This leaves them free to roam at their will and conduct your transaction wherever you feel like it. Need to deposit a check? Quickly do it at one of the counters. Feel like having an hour long discussion about which mortgage is best for you? Plop out on a couch and get all your questions answered. Professional, but relaxed, this is how a financial environment should me. The staff there is additionally very knowledgable about what they carry and financial planning. I've had many conversations with them regarding budgets and how best to structure my accounts to make my life easier. Speaking of easier, did I mention you can bank online? KU Credit Union has one of the best, easiest to use, and cleanly designed online banking sites I've ever seen. This was a massive selling point to me, as I prefer to automate all my finances. KU CU allows me to automatically set up all my bills electronically, so I receive a bill and it's literately a single mouse click to pay it. They write and mail the check for me, I receive verification it was sent and received. How easy and awesome is that? A customer for life, I can't recommend them highly enough. My only only regret is we bought a house before we began banking here, thus our mortgage is at a different, traditional bank. read more

I have banked with Truity Credit Union for 15 years now personally and my business account. I have always found the staff to be personal and helpful. They do not pay as much interest as other financial institutions but their fees are much less so they offset. I appreciate being able to bank with a facility where the people know me by name and do whatever they can to help me. They are the best financial institute which I have done business. I used to love this bank until I went to check my account balance at the 23rd st atm only to be charged 2$ for the balance inquery. There is nothing to say that you will be charged this amaount for checking your balance. Also why is this even a thing for account holders. I could understand if I had gone to a difetent bank or atm but I went to a Truity ATM. read more

They will close your account and charge you a non use or vacant few if you don't use it. I had an account with them for an auto loan and kept the $25 to start my account with them in case I needed to get another loan. Overall, I am not too impressed with them. Their banking site - and mobile site - has glitches (or are down) frequently. They charge pretty hefty fees for things that used to get waived for me at B of A. I moved to KU Credit Union because I thought smaller and local would be admirable. It is just not that convenient when there are only 3 locations. When I need to get cash out, most of the time I get something small at the grocery store - or something I need - with my debit card, and get cash back. So, there are ways around the inconvenience but it's just not ideal. Then they got rid of their free checks. Now their checks cost $24! If I wanted to get reamed, I would bank with a traditional bank. At least with B of A, you can take a picture of your checks and deposit them that way. I don't suppose KU Credit Union will be doing that any time soon. As a positive, they did re-finance my vehicle and get me a nicer rate and much lower payment. stay away from their credit card offers!! they make it impossible to pay online when you don't have a bank close by to make deposits to pay online and they charge you outrageous daily fees that just keep accumulating so you'll never get the card balance paid off! Tried to get a simple auto loan through these guys. What a joke! I have a + 780 FICO score and already have an account with this institution including a mortgage on a second home. They stuck me with a newbie loan specialist, Dana Lee, and she wouldn't return phone calls and was basically non-responsive and not helpful at all. I was making a purchase from a private party and she was trying to put the loan through as if I was dealing with a dealership. She never got it through her mind that I was dealing with a private party sale. This went on for almost two weeks and I finally went to bankrate.com and shopped for lenders online and got the transaction approved from start of app to approval in under 90 minutes. Hey Truity, you might want to take notes here! This example of customer service, or the lack of any, has not been indicative of Truity so far but this experience has really soured me on your organization.For a Credit Union these folks had better examine their customer service practices because in today's business world this is not acceptable.
