Wonderful Happy Hour at Truffle Pig! We liked it so much we went two days in a row. Wine is 50% off and over the two days we enjoyed an excellent fried cauliflower, pulled pork sliders, wedge salad, bacon wrapped dates & a charcuterie board. The service was great & I think they filled up my water glass every 5 minutes or less. We sat outside and the views were beautiful. The only negative is that HH ends at 5:30 - but that seems to be normal here. read more

Just left the Truffle Pig on a Tuesday night, and unfortunately it may have been the worst restaurant experience I've had in years. If you read my other reviews, you'll see that I don't make a habit of criticizing restaurants. I know everyone has an off night. But this experience missed the mark on almost every level. We were a party of four adults and two teenage girls on our last night in Steamboat Springs. The adults planned to enjoy a nice dinner while the girls did their own thing, but we all agreed on one thing: we wanted to eat at the Truffle Pig. The menu looked fantastic, and we were looking forward to a memorable final meal. Our first impression was a little strange. When we arrived, the two hostesses were playing cards. It wasn't offensive--they weren't busy--but it felt odd for a restaurant positioning itself as upscale. We explained that the girls wanted their own table, yet they seated them immediately beside us on the patio. There was only one other occupied table outside and roughly 15 empty ones, but we were seated directly next to that party as well. I politely asked if we could move a few tables away to give everyone some space. I was told they were "managing the servers' sections." The result was three occupied tables packed together while the rest of the patio sat empty. Our server, Dina, was friendly and pleasant. She mentioned there were no specials and took our drink orders. Oddly, after taking everyone's drink order, she returned to the first person and asked what she wanted to drink. She had simply forgotten she had already asked. It seemed harmless at the time. After our drinks arrived, I asked about the bacon-wrapped dates. Dina explained they came in orders of three, but we could add an extra one, so we ordered enough for everyone. Five minutes later she returned and asked if we'd like to order an appetizer. I reminded her we had already ordered the dates. "Oh yeah," she replied. The dates arrived and, to their credit, they were excellent. A few minutes later, Dina came back to let us know our dates should be out soon. Once again, I had to tell her we had already received them. Her response was simply, "Oh good, because I saw they started your entrees." My wife's Spinach & Bib salad with added steak was very good. Our friends ordered the burger and the cauliflower steak. Dina highly recommended the cauliflower steak, but our friend thought it was just average. Then the evening completely unraveled. I ordered the $79 New York Strip, medium rare. It was honestly the worst steak I've ever been served in a restaurant. The center was completely cold--well beyond rare--and it was so undercooked it's difficult to imagine anyone checked the temperature before it left the kitchen. On top of that, the steak was overwhelmingly fatty. I understand a New York Strip has marbling; it's one of my favorite cuts. This was something entirely different. I had to send it back. Remarkably, the teenage girls had also ordered the New York Strip, and theirs was even worse. Instead of preparing a new steak, the kitchen simply threw the already sliced pieces back on the grill. The result was an overcooked, tough, nearly inedible steak. At that point, I declined another steak and asked for the burger instead, specifically requesting no mushrooms. About ten minutes later, my replacement burger arrived covered with mushrooms. I scraped them off and, when Dina checked on us, I pointed out that I had specifically requested no mushrooms. There was no apology--just, "Oh, I know they were in a rush back there trying to get your meal out." That response perfectly summed up the evening. Mistakes happen. Kitchens get backed up. Servers forget things. What matters is how a restaurant responds. Throughout the meal there was no accountability, no manager stopped by, no chef came out, no offer to remake the girls' steaks properly, no complimentary dessert, and no effort to make things right. When Dina returned with our massive check, she apologized for the (wildfire) smoke in the area - really, for the smoke? I can only imagine the owner or Manager was off tonight, as well as the primary chef - or maybe not? For a dinner that approached $500, we didn't just leave disappointed--we left genuinely surprised that an establishment with this reputation handled the situation so poorly. The logo is great. The music and atmosphere are amazing (love the Grateful Dead theme). I just wish the food and service had lived up to them. read more

We stayed in steamboat for the weekend and decided to come here for dinner on our first night. They were pretty busy, but we made a reservation earlier in the day after finishing skiing so we had a table. It took pretty long for them to greet us or bring anything out after we ordered it - I'm talking 40 minutes for our meals, and our server Sam was a little sassy but I'm sure it was just the product of an overwhelming shift. We shared a bunch of stuff for the table, the large steak chimichurri, the burrata, tomato salad, the truffle fries, the kale beet salad, the mac & cheese, and the soup of the day which was truffle mushroom. The stuff was pretty good, I loved the tomato burrata. When I ordered the soup, I asked if it came with any bread or crackers, and he said no, but that he could add in some of the crostinis for me. He ended up charging me several dollars for those later, which I discovered on the bill. That didn't feel right, but whatever. The fries were yummy, the steak was OK and the chimichurri was not even real chimichurri - for $80 for one steak i was hoping for a little bit better experience there. The other dishes were good, but nothing was super memorable here, they did mention that their lunch menu was more well-known and that we should try that, which some of the group did go back the next day and said that it was a much better meal. I know that this is on property at a ski resort and that I never expected prices to be super reasonable, but I was a little bit disappointed for the value here. Giving four stars only because my friends enjoyed their lunch the next day. read more

The chilean sea bass was amazing - might be one of my favorite cooked fish dishes I have had - the rich Thai flavors were exceptional. The burrata dish was ok - the cheese, greens, and pine nut portion was great but way too much dressing. Overall still enjoyed the dish. Only thing is its a pretty hefty of a price but for that sea bass - I would go back again! read more

The truffle pig is goated for apres! Conveniently located at the bottom of the steamboat gondola, you can walk over and leave your skis/board on the ramp. Nothing is better than some HH house margaritas on the patio reminiscing the days activities. The service is friendly and does well to keep up with the steady influx of guests. We recently purchased a residence on the mountain and thought we'd try the local restaurants. The Truffled Pig was at the top of our list to try. We ordered drinks, then tried to order the Grilled 1/2 lb Wagyu burger. One in our party has a gluten allergy, not unusual these days. Unfortunately, the Truffle Pig does not offer a gluten free alternative for their bun. That's nothing less than arrogance for a restaurant that charges $39 for a burger. We stopped in Truffle Pig after a morning on the slopes to enjoy some lunch. We ordered the adult grilled cheese, which came with a tomato bisque soup. We also decided on the Italian sliced beef sandwich, and upgraded to the truffle fries. As you can see, the portions are huge and the food is delicious. Although a little pricey, it's expected based on their location at the base of the ski slopes. Next time, we plan on hitting the Apres Ski specials a little later in the day, as the prices were much better and menu options looked awesome. Give Truffle Pig a try when you're in town! read more

We came here for our last night of vacation and got to sit outside. The view wasn't as pretty as I had hoped, but the weather was amazing! Our waiter was super kind and attentive the whole meal. I started dinner with a strawberry lemon spritz and it was so nice in the cool air! My boyfriend had the steak and let me try a bit. Honestly, not a huge red meat eater so it wasn't my favorite steak I've ever had. Not to be dramatic, but my sea bass was probably the most amazing sea bass I have ever had. The tom kha soup base so was delicious and creamy, and the vegetables in it were perfect. I will honestly dream of this dish. read more

Came here for an early dinner. Made a reservation bc this place gets super busy on the weekends. They have happy hour from 2-4 pm. We just missed their happy hour bc our dinner reservation was at 4:30 pm. Got their bison carpaccio to start which was flavorful and had a hint of truffle. I got the prime rib for dinner. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My friend got their mushroom ravioli and added shrimp. The ravioli had a ton of sauce on it that you could not see the ravioli but my friend said it tasted good. Service was great and our waiter was attentive. We came here after skiing for dinner. Due to COVID we could dine indoors and the tables are just spaced out more. We got some cocktails to starts and some appetizers (shrimp and shishito peppers). As I can't do gluten but wanted a healthy option I went With the sea bass with out soy sauce. Fish was perfectly cooked and food was plated attractively. The only thing I didn't love, outside of it's presentation, was the rice. It was presented as a pyramid But it was really dried out. My friend got the same fish without holding the sauce and she felt the same so it wasn't an issue with my specific dish. Our waiter was awesome, even suggesting a bottle that was a special price that we loved. Overall a good experience although don't expect a bargain in a resort area. read more

Summer visit- Great patio (was on a wait). Inside has a neat vibe as well. Unique menu with a decent array of what I call "foodie" offerings. Prices were on the high side so that's the only reason I'm giving them 4stars. We enjoyed the marcona almonds, scampi pasta, truffle pig salad and the organic Scottish salmon. I didn't care for the glazes and sauces added to many things- especially because they were Asian flair which isn't my fave because of the sugar and soy. We were able to get the sauce on the salmon placed on the side. The salmon was otherwise delectable as was the pasta- it tasted house made! They have a significant list of whiskey for those who are interested. Good cocktail list as well- some prohibition style cocktails. I tried the lavender flip but it was sweeter than I preferred. We chose this restaurant as it was nearest to our hotel. It was the best choice! We were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and quality of food we received here. For 2 people we shared a Mac and cheese appetizer - absolutely delicious, tasted restaurant style and not gooey and homey like boxed Mac and cheese. We also shared some giant shrimp cocktail - tasted nice and fresh! We ordered a delicious bottle of Zinfandel, and were happy to hear we could take it home as we did not finish it at dinner. Finally. We ate at Truffle Pig while skiing in Steamboat Springs. It's located at the base of the mountain, and has a very warm feel to it as one would expect from a high end ski resort restaurant. We started with drinks, and I asked if they had Blantons, my favorite bourbon to date, and they did!!! One Blanton Whisky Sour coming right up!! For appetizers we ordered the Truffle Pig Fries and Crispy Duck Wings. The fries were amazing. Just perfect and we crushed them all. The Wings were not as good as the ones we ate at Hazies at the top of the Gondola mountain lift. For entrees, I ordered the Wagyu Burger with sautéed mushroom. Holy cow, what a fantastic burger. This is a chaotic place for someone who just dropped in for the first time. No tips on what to do when the front person drops you off. Imagine doing the chasing yourself. Chase your waitress. Chase another menu. Why? Because we moved tables! So that's just the tip of the issue here. I'll save you the trouble and alert you of what to do. Before you walk out like I wanted to. You order everything at the bar . Period. Now you can add anything you want from the person who brought you your food. Before five. That's the HH menu. After that they switch to a regular menu. Nobody would tell you that story. The food: their Half Lb Kobe Beef was a joy to eat. But at the rate of going against my saying that if you're not prepared to shell out $$ you shouldn't go out- this one's still a shocker to me and I've seen a lot and been to a lot of places. But this one takes the cake! The end bill for this burger? $31! Holy sh**! The breakdown: just the burger was $17. +Bacon Jam $4. +Truffle mushroom $10. =$31! Holy mother of stupids! I didn't place the order. So the rest of the story is between me and the ordering friend. Hilarious but sad! I was furious! Pork belly Mac n cheese. This was ok but not cheesy enough. I've had better. $16 Honey Swinger was my cocktail of choice. Gin based. $13. Yup! This is a resort town and yes prices here are amazingly ridiculous! But I enjoyed this drink and I would definitely order this again. But then again. After that burger I feel like I'm being robbed in broad daylight! Lol! Ambiance? Bar like. The tables by the back? There were peanuts in the foie gras which could have killed one of our companions. No warning. Just said "chef's daily preparation". We spent $700, the manager didn't care. When I brought this up to the manager he said there's "plenty of allergies out there" as though it was her fault for having a peanut allergy. We almost had to use the epi pen, and it could have been a trip to the emergency room Also, didn't have the bottle of wine we ordered so the manager brought out a substitute. He then put both of the bottles on the check, didn't apologize for the mistake. It's a good thing we looked at the bill. It's a good thing we all got home alive. Peanut allergies are no joke. We had a little section to ourselves. They had a great selection of drink specials for happy hour. I thought $4 for Buffalo Trace was a steal! The group split a bunch of appetizers (almost one of everything). We didn't have a bad item. My favorite was the smoked old fashioned and the truffle fries. Duck wings and the almonds are great too. Very troubling experience here. Started out fine, but quickly went downhill. Our server said she forgot the appetizers and it was 100% her fault. Now we were in no rush but this was about an hour into the dinner. She said they are quick and easy and should be right out. Ok. We said just make sure the entrees aren't started or coming on top of them since that order was placed already. She said of course. Guess what happened, they came together five minutes later. Come to find out another staff member told our mutual friend there the appetizers went to the wrong table, not that she forgot to put them in as she told us. They held our entrees to correct the apps and ruined the entrees under warmers. All sides were cold and the meats and sauces were dry. We asked for a manager (there were two there), and they never came. We are talking another hour here. We got our check and it was 100% full price, no apology, no anything! This server was in damage control for herself, didn't even report anything to the management. We decided to leave since no manager came out after 20 minutes or so. A manager magically appeared. I have never seen my father in law so mad in my life. This place was hoping we just pay and leave, must be a resort thing. The manger comped the entire $600 bill after all of that shenanigans. Just when we thought all was settled, we got phone calls threatening us after. They called the number on the reservation!!! They called over and over until we answered. This was at 9:40 pm. 970-948-4448 was the number that called us. We finally answered and heard the F word and some other stuff then they hung up. Apparently it's Scott Engelman. He is a co-owner with David Jones. Scotty boy is married to a lawyer too! Liz Hastings Engelman. We are waiting for some calls tomorrow. We did reach some fellow management and they apologized. Long story short, avoid this place, Carl's Tavern and Eureka. They are all the same ownership and if you have a problem at one of these places, be prepared to get assaulted after you leave if they make mistakes. read more

I have since returned for a second time, now 2 years later. In my opinion, this restaurant is very overpriced for what you get. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. I wanted to eat at the Truffle Pig since our last year's vacation. Hostess was lovely and helpful. However, since I wanted to eat outside on the deck, I had to go to the bar and order. I waited for quite awhile as the bartender chatted endlessly to another customer...not about food nor drink. The food was fine and delivered quickly. No one came to check if I was ok. Then I waited at the bar again for quite a long time to get my check and pay the bill. The bar was not busy, I was just not a priority. This was my "treat" away from the kids, and I had high expectations and was unfortunately let down. For the price I expected better service. Maybe it was just one "not with it" bartender...but unfortunately for The Truffle Pig, I will always remember how she made me feel, not good.
