I've been here since Oct. 2024. Staff are friendly and caring. Everyone learns your name within a day and address you by name and not any usual "fake sweet names" reserved for elderly. I have only one complaint and it's a big one. The food is terrible. It is inconsistent as though a bunch of unqualified staff are helping out in kitchen. The mashed potatoes or whatever are too salty, too spicy, to eat? Chef says, "sorry, "they" get carried away sometimes." For the amount we pay, I don't expect a restaurant meal every day but very close to it. The cheapest frozen cuts of meat are used, the meatloaf, Salisbury steak texture is that of dry cardboard. One time Salisbury steak was served. It was a 4x4 less than 1/4 quarter inch slice of something. Vegetables all seem to be frozen and is always squash and carrots w/onions or broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, either under or over cooked green beans. We must'nt forget the corn! The menus rarely change, seems to alternate between 2 or 3 standard menus. On weekends there is a lot of hot dogs (chicken), sloppy joes, etc. My biggest concern other than not enjoying food anymore is the nutritional values. I'm diabetic, never had a problem with keeping in control with diet. However when served a meal of 4 baby back ribs (little actual edible protein) with sides of Mac and Cheese, Potato salad and Corn, keeping diabetes in control becomes a chore. My solution is to prepare as much as possible in my microwave and feed myself. That isn't working. I've been dealing with horrible diabetes symptoms and am in process of working with my doctor to fix it. Another major problem with my use of the dining room is I'll be fine at start of mealtime, however, they're so short staffed that sometimes it takes almost an hour to get food by that time, I'm in diabetic hell. I don't require special food or services. Just better. TruWood by Merrill Family needs to loosen their pocketbook and buy better quality, perhaps more qualified kitchen staff, more serving staff and try a little food diversity. Just cause we're old doesn't mean we're stupid. We know when things should be better. Furthermore, they have a monthly meeting with Chef and facility general manager for residents to air their complaints. I've attended and spoken out. All we get are excuses and platitudes. I'm not the only resident to complain about the food. Admittedly it's better than having to do it yourself, however, it needs to be done consistently well, served quickly, salad should be fresh, soup should be hot. If you're gonna do it do it properly. Other than the food quality and inconsistency,shortness of staff in kitchen and serving there are no reasons to hesitate to put yourself or family member here. The place is great, and the staff is remarkable. I moved my mom here from another facility out of state, and we couldn't be happier with the overall experience. Beau and his team have gone out of their way to get my mom involved in activities and encouraged her to get out and meet other residents. I highly reccomend Truewood! John read more

My parents have lived here for 7 years. New ownership, Truewood, is cutting nursing care (finger sticks for blood sugar and INR) so we now have to transport outside for these services. They have, however, increased their care costs while cutting services! They increase rent 5% every year so make sure you budget for that. Food quality has declined and now they have residents with walkers, canes and wheelchairs go through a buffet line and serve themselves rather than being served at their table. We gave some grace on this after Covid because hiring people was difficult but now they should be able to staff the dining room adequately for residents so they don't have to try to carry their own plate to their table and they should have a menu to select from. Just another way of cutting corners while increasing costs for residents is how we feel. We stay because the med techs there are great! 4/24/2024 Thanks for reaching out Geoff. We have given honest feedback to the onsite manager and staff. The response has been new owners are moving toward more of an independent living facility instead of assisted living. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Where should I start,,,,,, besides these residents having to put up with roaches and ants in their fruit, and roaches IN THE DINING ROOM and COFFEE POTS, I went to visit my mother a few weeks ago and I'm disgusted with how this place feeds these residents and veterans, I had to take her someplace else. These caregivers are careless and are always talking amongst each other instead of working and tending to these residents, with terrible attitudes. I've overheard these ladies oversharing personal information about the men and women who live there. the chefs are not clean, do not cook the food correctly nor wear hairnets, i have found hair in my mom's food many times before. Management needs to look into chef Douglas and how rude he is to these residents. I have witnessed him being snooty or rude when visiting my mother. I'll highly, highly, highly suggest that families please ask their loved ones and look around and make sure they are not eating roaches and ants! I've seen strange behavior regarding him, he needs to be looked into. Or seeing any roaches in their rooms. This place has gone downhill since he was hired. Management ill love for you to reach out to me about employees you have working there and being involved and touching the women! married women and men have affairs with each other while on shift! please look into this ill be contacting HR in the morning. Not good for dementia. They will tell you all these things they do for your loved one, but they really just want to keep their census up and get your money. Dementia is how they make all their money. RCFEs are NOT SET UP FOR DEMENTIA. Med room makes lots of promises, but doesn't follow through. They don't take care of laundry or toiletries even though they say they will. They don't monitor if or how your loved one eats. These places - not just Orchard Park- are basically real estate investors trying to maximize return on investment. This is the second RCFE we've been at in 3 years and they all seem to be the same. Probably very good if you have a physical injury or can't care for yourself, but terrible for dementia patients. To live here with a physical impairment you need an outside care giver or pay them for someone to roll you around. If you have cognitive impairment, assisted living is NOT for you. They will take your money though. read more

When she first moved in, I was actually a little jealous: a small, one bedroom apartment with a courtyard view, a huge dining area with fully prepared meals every day and a grand piano, and a calendar of activities to do! I've joined her for meals here (nothing special, but it beats cooking for yourself), and talked with the friendly occupants. Our family has been satisfied with the level of care she's been getting all these years! read more

My mom had to go to Orchard Park's memory care for a short stay. I was so worried she wouldn't do well and felt so guilty we couldn't be there for her after she was released from ER. After seeing how well my mom recovered under Orchard Park's care and how happy she was I would totally opt for Orchard Park's care. Ruthie made sure everything went smoothly during the transition process and is very professional and outgoing. Love her. Barbara, the main nurse who took care of my mom along with Kimberly & Colby were wonderful. They have a real grasp on dementia care. Barbara took care of her father for 14 years as he had dementia and parkinson. I couldn't have dreamed of someone more qualified and more caring with my mom. So grateful! My friends & I noticed that all the residents were content. They seemed to get along even though they are not "all" there if you know what I mean. If the day comes when my family can't take care of my mom anymore, I'll definitely place my mom at Orchard Park. read more

My mom was diagnosed with alzheimer type dementia 2013. After looking at 5 assised living communities, i chose Orchard Park because it was affordable, clean and since this was my first experience with such a place, we moved my mom here. The caregivers are kind and caring. The head LVN who is supposed to be caring as part of the profession, is not; Especially after speaking with her about various issues as my mom's advocate.. They offer activities but do not encourage mom to take part. She is one of many elderly that just exist there without encouragement of caring on their part. I see many just going through the motions daily. I am a professional caregiver, RN, and I have been for many years. I still sincerely care about my clients daily. because that's what i do and what nursing professionals give from the heart. Recent health events have caused me to move my mom out and after advising the head nurse about the situation, not once did she express care or concern or sympathy or well wishes for my mom during this conversation. Then i was transferred to the biller who did likewise, no caring words heard from either, nor the manager of this place. The only person who called me to find out how my mom was doing, was one medical assistant. So if your loved one is outgoing and able to be assertive in their care, then ok, this place may work. if your loved one has dementia and feels sad on a daily basis because of life changes even though we are here for her, just not with her for reality reasons, then i would not recommend this place. There has to be other communities who are sincerely in the caring business because they care and advise staff to take care with their hearts number one and their minds, not just because their number one priority is money to stay in business. read more
