The Cottages section is a perfect place to spend retirement years. Our apartments are spacious and fully equipped. I love my kind and thoughtful neighbors and the warm, professional staff. The food is good. There's self-directed group exercise classes 6 days weekly. Plus plenty of activities - including Bible study two days a week for those of us so inclined. I'm an active 74-year old living independently in The Cottages- knowing a 3-story quality assisted living facility is next door when I need it. And a Memory Care program too. I highly recommend Carmel Village. read more

I decided to put my mother in Carmel village memory care center when her dementia became advanced in February of 2023 and after I was advised it was one of the best in Clovis. At first I thought it was a good idea because they kept her clean but then they started drugging her to the point of she slept all the time, which I understand they need to keep her mellow but I thought they used to much and I explained that to them. The food they serve them started out okay but shortly after it was very bland, I would pay for my own meal and eat with mom who needed help getting to the cafeteria, she was very sleepy. One day in late September of 2023 when I wasn't there she fell out of her chair in the cafeteria where there are many caregivers and the fall broke her hip. I was notified by one of the caregivers that she was being transferred to Clovis community hospital for the injury and surgery, the surgery went well but the trauma caused her to go into shock and stopped eating and drinking, she died 10 days after the incident, I have never heard a word from Carmel village about the fall, and I understand how many people are lawsuit happy, but I'm not that type of person, a simple call to express their condolences would of been acceptable being that mom was injured when she should of been watched very closely, in the cafeteria and heavily drugged, so in my view they did my mom a disservice and would advise people to look elsewhere. Mom was there from beginning of February 2023 to September 20 of 2023. read more

My mom moved into the independent living in February of '22. She found the houses to be lonely. When I visited, we enjoyed going over to the dinning room to eat or pick up food. We found the meals to be tasty and plentiful. We found everyone very helpful and nice. read more

This property is very nice, although like many "businesses", their bottom line profitability at times is at the detriment of their residents. The staff is very friendly, but turnover is very high. New employees come and go and that makes it difficult to maintain quality. The food provided can range in quality from one day to the next, some meals are very good and some are not. Residents have been known to throw their meals in the trash. Sysco seems to be their primary food supplier and it's obvious that "cost" matters and it shows. Residents are not expecting gourmet meals, but when you're paying $50,000 to $60,000 a year to stay here or more, meals should not taste like they come from a cafeteria. Food quality, consistency and service should be much more of a focus here. Housekeeping is also very spotty, depending upon who's doing the cleaning. Again, quality and consistency need to be points of focus. Dusting "all" surfaces, vacuuming and mopping, sanitizing all kitchen and bath surfaces should not be negotiable. Recently a member of the housekeeping staff was stealing food items from at least one resident out of the residents independent living cottage. The housekeeper has since left, but this is very disheartening to say the least. What type of "vetting" and background checks are being done on all employees? Granted, it's been a challenging climate with Covid and costs have impacted everyone negatively, but there are and should be solutions found and quality improvement. Advice: Yes, you are a "corporation", but a unique one. Your business is to care, house and provide services to the residents that you are paid very well from. Reevaluate your current priorities and look at every conceivable way to overcome these challenges. Proper leadership will improve morale of residents and employees, reduce turnover by residents and employees and ultimately your bottom line profits will increase. There are more and more options for these types of facilities and services, it will only become more and more competitive. Why not strive to be the best out there in the area! read more

I am a flight paramedic and previously a paramedic on the ambulance, so needless to say I've seen a couple hundred of these nursing homes. I'm proud to say this is where my grandmother who suffers from dementia, resides here. The staff is caring, and protective. They're attentive. And truly care - it's easy to tell when you call the front desk and they know exactly who your loved one is by their first name and can recite characteristics about them. I can sleep peacefully knowing they care about her and that she won't suffer neglect or mistreatment here. And kudos to the staff because my grandmother is a riot read more

My mom moved in at the end of May and she and her family have been very very pleased with the care mom is getting. Mom has problems with hearing and can barely see, however the other residents don't have a problem with helping her out with Bingo, cards, or any other fun thing that is going on at the facility. I wish mom would of moved in earlier however she is doing great....at 93 years old she is among so many 90-96 year old moving and shaking seniors. read more

My grandparents have lived here for over a year. Here are my observations. Pro: The place looks great. Con: The food is terrible. It takes an hour for my grandparents to get waited on. They often don't get served unless they complain. Caregivers forget to take out the trash in their apartment. Caregivers take a long time to respond o calls. A very close family member of mine stayed there for the last couple of years. It was $4800 a month and that didn't include medication, toiletries, diapers, etc. His room was very small. The staff seemed to be very friendly, but it certainly didn't match up to the website's description. You'd think their efforts to keep the Covid-19 virus at bay would be their #1 priority, but my family member contracted the virus from someone in there and lost his life to it. Don't judge this book by its cover! Looks great on the outside, it's what's inside that counts. I'd ask for a few references from family members and talk to some of the folks going in and out before committing to this. Understaffed. Management changes staff and policies as fast as you can blink. Consistency for the residents is CRITICAL - do not expect it here. Maintenance is slow, after hours emergencies are unattended, facility is understaffed. Dining (which we now jokingly refer to as "feeding time") is a joke. Laundry services - hold on to your things or literally someone else will! It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful to look at - how sad that some many here have no other options. The residents pay WAY too much out of pocket for poor service and overall quality provided! read more

My Husband was in Carmel Village Memory Care from Nov. 30th 2017 to March 15th 2018... My husband had little speech and was Combative, When I sign up there was a different staff which I love but when He went in the staff had changed... My husband was not taken care of... this staff has no clue how to take care of an Alzheimer's patient... my husband had the police called on him on two occasions and on March 15 he was hand cuffed and taken out with the most cruel treatment for a man that could not explain what was wrong...the staff stood and watched in lobby as he was screaming and bleeding. He also fell out of bed and laid in the floor for hours before they found him, when the finally got him to the hospital, he had the flu, cellulitis and a previous fall the day before with a torn meniscus in the right knee... hopefully the staff has changed... because they were young kids with no experience or compassion for my husband... The food was the most horrible food I have witnessed... no nutritional value, just pure junk..my husband has been at Elim Place, in Sanger ever since they threw him out... also the knew before about him being combative and not being able to communicate...My husband has had the best care with professional trained staff that is so living and kind... very well cared for... and also they didn't return my Community fee.. because they waited just a week after the date had expired... horrible horrible horrible staff with no training... I hope they have done improvements because I thought they should have been reported and shutdown... read more

Beautiful facility and a kind staff. My grandmother just passed but I'm so grateful her last few years were in such a lovely place.

This property has in October undergone some changes in their Dietary Dept. with their new Chef improving the menu and food quality. The 'wait staff' has been properly trained to accommodate the residents requests. The Health Service Director, Bobbi is an R.N. who is training all care staff to provide proper care for the residents. Carmel Village at Clovis is a property worth consideration! read more

We've had a relative there for over a year and it's exactly as Julie C. stated on 5/4/16, but possibly worse. The meals are a joke and there isn't anything culinary or decent on their menu. The place has unskilled people working in their most important areas and they are definitely under staffed. It's BAD when your relative doesn't even get proper daily care, like showers, basic grooming, or cleaned properly but they sure are paying for it. I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the beauty of the place because it's very nice and pleasing to the eye, but they can't seem to manage or administer what's really important -- THE CARE! read more

My mother lives at Carmel Village. Management is inept and do not listen to complaints. Mom is not completely satisfied with care and says food except breakfast is frozen food rewarmed, tasteless and often not edible. The facility is nice and rooms are kept fairly clean. The promises given at signing never even came close to the reality of the situation. The left hand never knew what the right hand was doing. Very poor communication between shifts resulted in inferior care for residents. The response time was scary bordering on dangerous. My parent was so disappointed after initially being excited to move in . The facility looks very nice, but the care is just not there. The staff is far too transient. There were 3 directors in 6 months and countless staffing changes. The food was so bad that my parent ate things that could be prepared with the microwave and skipped the dining room. My parent felt worried about no one coming to help when it was needed and we ultimately moved out. Very upsetting all the way around.For the price we paid, we could not in good conscience recommend Carmel Village. read more

I have been very pleased with Carmel Village these past few months. New management has been in place since sometime in June and the positive changes are noticeable. There is more staff in the dining room and the food is good with lots of choices. I recommend that any place you are considering you should have a couple of meals there. Talk to the residents they will tell it like it is. New residents are moving in almost every week and they are all very pleasant! We've made several new friends. The care staff has added more caregivers which has really improved their response times. So if you're looking for a retirement community you should definitely check them out. read more

Look elsewhere. The cons highly outweigh and positives I can come up with. If you can look through the beauty of the environment you will find lazy caregivers, awful foods, new directors every other month etc. our grandmother was placed there short term and we are still fighting to get her $3000 deposit back. Her adult briefs and medication was stolen. It was and continues to be a disaster even though she is no longer there. read more
