Late lunch near Green Hills Mall. We tried True Food Kitchen. Parking was a bit interesting, but the restaurant is very open, clean and inviting. Tried the Guac as a starter and it was very good. They added pickled jalapeño and vinegar tomatoes on the side. It truly complemented the flavor. My wife ate it, and she is not a huge Guac fan; so that says a lot for the Guac. Early evening Entrees were chicken parm and I had buffalo chicken sandwiches with fries. House made pickles on the sandwich were ok. Apple slaw was a good compliment to the buffalo chicken. Looks like they used the same breaded chicken that they use on the chicken parm for the buffalo chicken sandwich. Fries were good. Some very very hard and overcooked. Chicken parm was cooked well and the pasta was cooked well. One of my biggest pet peeves when out to dinner anywhere is keeping the drinks filled. No matter what it is, soda, tea, etc. That does not happen here. That would be my only negative take from this place. Other than that, we would definitely suggest checking out this place for lunch/brunch or dinner. They do have live music at night as well if that is your cup of tea. Pricing is a bit higher than some, so be aware that you may pay a little more to eat here, but the food is fresh and the menu is health conscious. read more

Arriving from out of town and meeting our friends for dinner, they cancelled reservations they had at another restaurant to meet us at True Food Kitchen. We should have had them keep their reservations and met them at the other restaurant. Arrived on time for our 5:15 reservations. Drink orders were taking and served within a couple minutes, then it all started to go sideways. After waiting about 20 minutes, our order was finally taken. Appetizers arrived cabout 10 minutes later which was a little long, but OK. At the time of order, we let our waiter now we needed to be out of there by 6:45 foot a movie, "shouldn't be a problem". Ends up taking about another 40 minutes to get our food, but not before the waiter comes back and let us know our order is coming up and we would like to have it to go? We decided to stay and eat. The four of us ordered Steak Frites, Ancient Grains Bowl w/Salmon, Market Salad and the Ahi Poke Bowl. The Poke Bowl was tiny, it tasted great but was so small I ended up ordering some fries. Fries came totally under done (like a couple of other reviews mentioned) Ancient Grains and Market Salad were very good too. Here's where the one star comes due to taking forever to receive our order and the Steak Frites being completely subpar. The steak was ordered, medium rare, it came well done. It also was a pretty bad piece of meat, difficult to cut through due to how recently it was. 3/4 of the steak ended up, going home and being fed to our pup. On top of that the fries were under done. When asked about it, the waiter said let me see what I can do. He came back with a 15% discount, basically the cost of the fries. It probably should have been the other way around a discount that took care of the bad steak and just pay for the fries. Probably won't be coming back on our next trip through the Nashville area, and I don't think our friends from Nashville will either. A go to summer salad spot! I love true food. I moved here from Scottsdale, so I was so happy to see that I would have true food here as well! The salads are the stars here. All the other food is wonderful as well don't get me wrong, I just feel like they've really honed in their salads. I looooove the kale Caesar with salmon. It's my go to summer salad eaten on the patio/ it makes me feel light and breezy and carefree. Even if in reality im stressy depressy lemon zesty and riddled with anxiety. It's fun to play pretend for a lunch though. The drinks are also really good. I once got nearly blackout hammered on them so warning, they are sneaky strong. They will catch up to you. read more

Stopped by on Saturday evening with the family for dinner. Was surprised that it was fairly empty at 6pm on a Saturday, nothing like it used to be. It used to be hoping at the bar, patio and restaurant. We were seated outside and seemed they didn't assign us a waitress. Fortunately one of the wait staff asked if we had been waited on and notified our waitress. We were underwhelmed by the food on this visit. The price has always been on the high end, but used to be really good quality. This time, not so much. Two of the entrees had chicken added, one was chopped salad and the other was the pasta with chicken added. The chicken was dry, almost like it had been cooked earlier in the day, chopped and placed to the side to be added to the entrees. Not freshly made for each entree. Basically same cold dry grilled chicken pieces on each. They advertised the air fried French fries, but were very skimpy on the side of fries with burger and included a good number of overcooked fries too. Almost like I received the end of the basket leftovers. I would suggest sticking with salad side vs $2 up charge for the fries. I've been to several True Food Kitchen's in various states, it's arguably my favorite chain. As someone who generally steers clear from seed oils, I really value TFK's mission of using whole ingredients and avocado/olive oils in their dishes. I love that the menu is always changing, as I've never ordered a meal I didn't love. I typically order the grain bowl with tofu or chicken added, but today I decided to try one of the summer dishes: the watermelon salad with grilled chicken. It was a pretty good portion for being a starter and the grilled chicken only made the salad more filling. The passion fruit vinaigrette paired delightfully with the avocado mousse. To add an extra flavor kick I asked for jalapeños for a sweet-spicy combo. The staff are always so casual and friendly, making you feel right at home with every visit, wherever you're visiting from. The vibe is casual yet sophisticated and fun. This location was in a little suburban-luxury apartment complex, where it was easy to park and had parking validation. The dishes are well made with balanced flavor- I usually enjoy less salty dishes and this hit the right spot. We also ordered butternut squash pizza- I really enjoyed it. Ambience is super nice. I really wanted to give TFK another shot today as it's been consistently disappointing that last few times I've been. But tonight was the nail in the coffin for me. It's frustrating because this used to be a favorite of mine as healthier restaurants like this are hard to come by. But for what it costs to eat here, this place has really been lacking in consistency and service, and it's no longer worth it. We've been in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, and are typically very understanding. But it was a hot mess tonight. My mother wanted to come for Mother's Day dinner. We were there earlier- 5:45 - and it was busy, which was to be expected. But what wasn't expected was the fact that the food took an hour. Starting out, the appetizer took well over 20 minutes. When the server came over to check on us, I asked her about the app. She seemed surprised, then told me it took 20 minutes on another table as well, and went to check on it. In that time I noticed that the table next to us was also very frustrated about something and left nearly full plates of food on their table. A runner brought the app out 5 min later. (And sidenote- I'm not sure why every time I order this guacamole app, they never bring side plates) Time went on and our server came to the table and said food should be out in the next 5 minutes. She knew it was taking forever. I looked at the clock at that point and it was around 6:45. We had been there an hour already. My toddler was getting very tired. We should've been almost done and getting ready to leave at that point. I actually wanted to leave but I needed my child to eat. And all I ordered for her was soup! The food still didn't come out until after 7. I understand it's a big restaurant day and things may take a little longer. But an hour?? What happened that the kitchen wasn't able to handle the volume? The expected volume of a big occasion in the restaurant world. And as a server, sure, I realize they can't control the kitchen, but it's up to them to keep track of ticket times and go tell a manager when there's a problem. Communication between a server and the guests goes a long way. Maybe the servers have too many tables for a day like this and it's really hard for them to stay on top of it. So is this a management issue? I don't know, but a manager should have been sent to the table for that ticket time. A manager should actually be on the floor keeping an eye out and checking with guests, especially on a day like this. That goes a long way as well. A table was seated near us about 15-20 min before we left and already had some food by the time we got up. Would've loved to been able to enjoy some dessert, but we couldn't stay there any longer. First time back here in probably 6 years or so because I wasn't impressed with the food and the price the first time but I decided to give it another chance after a friend suggested it for lunch. We went Thursday around noon and it wasn't crowded at all. The service was decent but could use a little improvement when it comes to going over specials (I wasn't made aware there was a lunch special and would've loved to get that but oh well). I added chicken to the noodle bowl but honestly it didn't really need it. The mushrooms were hearty and actually my favorite part of the dish. I love potatoes but skip the french fries. They were hard and kind of like chips. The ketchup was unique though. My friend and I spit the bill but my card was swiped twice and I'm still waiting on the adjustment. The server was apologetic and said it was an honest mistake but it's still an inconvenience to me. They only have paid parking in that area now but True Food validates up to two hours. First time I've ever had server tell me you should be drinking since you have children.... Very awkward and inappropriate behavior from our server. I don't get why people like this dish. I assume it's called "Korean noodle" because of the glass noodles, and it's supposed to be like Japchae. But all I could taste was salt and a burnt flavor. The food was delicious, came out quickly, and there were a variety of choices. We had the butternut Squash soup - and the tuna and grain bowls. Also had to get a chicken tender to try the air fried chicken (it was yummy and sufficiently crispy!). Dessert was lemon sorbet with blueberry compote. I set my expectations too high based on the menu and concept of this place. My wife and daughter had raved about this place, so I decided to try it for lunch while in town for an appointment. There is ample inside or patio dining to accommodate your preference. I will go back and give it another chance because of my wife's and my daughter's previous experience. True Food is such a wonderful gem that I hadn't been to in a while! I went with some friends and we decided to eat outside on the patio! It wasn't super busy, but the hostess at first did seem a bit overwhelmed when we requested to sit outside, but she was super accommodating and sat us! I decided to order the pepperoni pizza! I accidentally asked for a Diet Coke, not realizing they don't sell soda! I have heard they have great juices but have not tried them yet. Our waitress was awesome. She was super friendly, cracked jokes, made conversation, and got our food in a timely manner knowing we had a movie to catch! Let's start off with they do have parking validation, which I tried to find on their website, but I couldn't and we had paid in the garage by the time we had walked to the door, so a useful bit of information to save yourself some money. The inside of the restaurant is nice, with an open kitchen. At first when I looked at the menu, it is pricier side, but knowing they pride themselves on ingredients I was still interested. As well as my dinner partner being vegan which their menu does accommodate. Our server was awesome, especially when we mentioned we hadn't been there before he gave us a nice little rundown and some recs. I got the Citrus Salmon Salad and the portion size was great. I've been kind of disappointed with True Food Kitchen. I have a mostly pescatarian diet, so I mainly eat seafood and plant based proteins. So far, I've had a salmon filet added to the Tuscan kale salad. The salmon was overcooked. Recently I also tried the seasonal shrimp lettuce cups. The shrimp were overcooked, and a bit too rubbery/chewy. I will probably keep trying this place in the future because everything else has been very good, and I hate to call anyone out, but perhaps the grill needs to be recalibrated because the cook time for seafood is resulting in overcooking and less desirable texture. read more

I, this human piece of kale, am the picture of vibrance and health, and I have the teeniest tip-toe of a carbon footprint. I'm a piece of Kale who recycles, and always remembers my reusable bags. This is the imagery a visit to True Foods conjures. Health, brightness, altruism. On a recent brunch occasion, I had the blueberry pancakes, and I cannot think of a single way they could be improved. You know how regular pancakes get boring about two bites in? Not these. These pancakes kept me interested; invested, even. They're made with a blend of seeds and whole wheat flour, for a depth of flavor and textural excitement... So much more than a vehicle for syrup. But while we're on the topic of syrup, at True Food they serve real . maple . syrup. When presented with a ramekin of REAL (and trust me, I can suss out a phony miles away) maple syrup, I like to take a moment, close my eyes, and observe a moment of quiet gratitude. Many "yums" and talk of what will be ordered next time floated around the table as whole milk lattes flowed. We arrived at True Food on 12/13/25 at around 6:20PM. It was busy and were told it would be at least a 45-minute wait. When we went to the website, we were able to book a reservation on the spot for 6:45PM (which would only be 25 minutes after we arrived). We let the employees know that we booked the reservation. The guy (maybe a manager?) in the front interjected and talked over the two girls we were talking with to tell us that they wouldn't be able to seat us at 6:45PM because they were very busy and there were "at least 11 parties ahead of us." I think he was mad that we booked a reservation online after telling us it would be 45 minutes. It didn't really seem that busy. He didn't ask us if we wanted to get a drink at the bar or offer any positive words about our visit. That's fine - there are plenty of other restaurants in the area that are happy to serve us without a hassle. We were happy to leave at that point. We don't need a manager on a power trip when we go out to eat. read more

Ordered dinner last night through Door Dash and holy cow, what an incredible disappointment. I ordered the charred cauliflower starter - was good but small. Also got the burger in a lettuce wrap with fries. No tomatoes, onions, etc. were included, the lettuce was wilted and there was literally one piece on each side. The burger itself tasted ok but there was a LOT of sauce on it and it was cold. The restaurant put the fries in the same container, which left them soggy and also cold. I ordered the wild ahi tuna bowl for my husband and while it tasted pretty good, it looked like the restaurant just threw a handful of ingredients into a container. The presentation of all of these foods was AWFUL. I know it was delivery, but when I'm spending $80 on a meal, I expect it to at least be packaged somewhat nicely. We also ordered a chocolate chip cookie for dessert and it was inedible. I have a major sweet tooth, but after one bite, I threw it away. One of the worst cookies I've ever had. OK, so I ordered the chicken fingers and the side salad. Oh my goodness it was disgusting. They hammer them out to paper thin with some coating but the chicken isn't even cooked. I don't even know if it was chicken. You couldn't cut it you couldn't chew it and then when you looked inside, it looked pink and gray. It was nasty. And we ordered their blueberry muffins. You think because it was brunch, they would come warm because it was sitting in a pool of glaze (personally I think they may have been warm and the server forgot to give them to us). Last minute decision was made to dine here on a Saturday night. Got in at 730, no wait, place was packed. Generous options on the menu, choosing was difficult due to the great selection.
