This store is very unique for the area. You get an upscale boutique experience in a downscale…read moreenvironment. They sell men's and women's clothes, much higher quality than you'll find at most department stores, with an unusual mix of styles. The store is not in East St. Louis, but in Belleville, and is one of the places the high income Belleville golf course set shops. What I like best about the place is that I can be sure that no one else in my work place or among my friends will have the same outfit I just bought. They don't carry racks of the same item in multiple sizes, but just one in each size. They don't have extra large sizes in the women's dept, but they have extra small... They have sales sometimes, which is good, because they're quite pricey. Costume jewelry and accessories selection is top notch, and the salespeople are very helpful in helping you find a complete ensemble. The menswear seems to be for the golf set, but the women's is quite varied in style from casual to very unique and dressy. I especially love their skirts. This is the store to go to if you want to see what colors will be in style for the season. So why didn't I give this unique store more stars? They have a 7-day return policy, which is out of step with modern working families. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful, but be warned, if you go to the sale racks upon entering, they'll give you a bit of the cold shoulder. And the dressing rooms are tacky, not really matching the prices you'll pay or the quality of the clothing.

Banks... some of which I have selected myself; most of which my wonderful wife has selected for me. Joseph A. Banks does support newer trends in men's clothes, and also supports more classic styles - pants with pleats and cuffs (so nice!). They also have fine suits and tuxedos. I rented a tux for our daughter's senior Father-Daughter dance, where we had a wonderful time... and I was able to be the first to wear the patent leather shoes that shined so nicely. I also purchased a jacket for myself... a blue one with black lapel; for which my wife helped me find a white, herringbone shirt, and my first bow ties... it's quite a nice look. Beyond the nice shirts and pants and sweaters and polos, ... ... more valuably ... are the heart and soul of the Des Peres location - Marty and Sean, who've we've had the pleasure of knowing for several years now. Both are fine gentlemen who appreciate good looking clothes and who help us find just the right items. They also provide fine tailoring services and make sure that we get the right discounts. Thank you Marty, Sean, and the Des Peres Joseph A. Banks! See you soon!
