Thank God for a Winery here! We were visiting from Hawaii & didn't realize a blizzard was coming. We booked an experience outside & was waiting at Boreal Mountain for our reserved time, but what should have been 10 mins to the Winery, was going to take us 1 hour, because of the snowstorm! We immediately called to see if we could reschedule as we know we would be back. They said we could come another day. Yay! We decided to go back when there wasn't a blizzard. Lol. We also upgraded our experience from smores & fireplace outdoors, to a YURT! Best decision ever & it was our BEST winery experience ever! It was just perfect & magical! The yurt had 2 heaters, but we quickly turned one off. It wAs equipped with blankets & pillows! It was so cozy feeling. Our table was so nicely decorated, like out of a magazine! The experience came with a charcuterie board and 5 wine tastings. Everything was so good! Not a fan of White wine, but it's something about high elevation wineries...makes white taste yummy! Had reservations on a Saturday afternoon. There was only 1 person working. We were seated and asked for food, to which we we're told there was absolutely nothing available to eat despite it being on the menu. Delightful setting that is a little tricky to find. Well worth the effort. The tasting was delivered at a leisurely pace. If you purchase two bottles, your tasting fee is waived. Enjoyed our visit with Tom, he gave such great service. He thoroughly explained each wine to us and gave us a private tour of the barn cellar. We are normally red wine lovers but loved the white wines, they were unlike conventional wines on the market. For the tasting, we upgraded our tasting to 6 tastings. A couple of weekends ago we had a friend visit from Hawaii and decided to take her to Truckee River Winery for a wine tasting! The weather was sunny which made our experience here that much more enjoyable. Truckee River Winery is a cute wine tasting bar with such beautiful property. Outside, they have a couple tables set up on their lawn as well as two bocce ball sand courts. Now, I'm not too familiar with wine, but I was very surprised with how affordable the wine tastings were. The Traditional Tasting was $5 and the Reserve Tasting was only $10. We had a group of four, so two of us did the Traditional Tasting, and the other two did the Reserve Tasting. The service was exceptional and we were able to enjoy each wine sample without any rush. We would take our glasses and enjoy it outside and share plenty of laughs. When we were all finished, we would take our glasses for the next sample. As I said earlier, I'm not too familiar with wine and I wouldn't know what great wine is supposed to taste like, but as far as I was aware of, everything I tasted that day was very pleasant. This is a great place for a tasting. My first time wine tasting in the area and my friends wanted to bring me here. We did a tasting and I was pleasantly surprised to get a yummy cheese plate and crackers to go with it. Since my friends bought some wine, our tastings were all free. I visited Truckee River Winery for the first time last weekend for my late birthday celebration with 6 of my friends. Boy, it sure is a shame that I didn't know about this place sooner! The ambience is casual, and the environment is so warm and inviting. The building itself is rather quaint and cozy on the inside. The real treat is the outdoor space with ample seating (and different styles too!), corn hole, and bocce ball courts. This is the perfect spot for any type of event, including celebrations, dates, family get-togethers, weddings, and even getting work done! The staff is so friendly, knowledgeable, and fun! They helped us pick out tastings and snacks, provided us with samples for other drinks, and contributed to the general merriment. I learned that TRW sources all their grapes from California but makes their wine at a facility in Truckee! The bang for the buck here is exceptional! We tried the $5 tasting which includes 5 wine samplings, all of which are refreshing and unique. The rosé is made my letting the grapes sit with the skin, creating a light color and a unique flavor. I also purchased the hibiscus-lime hard kombucha. Their snack offerings here are amazing- we got a cheese and bread plate, specifically with sourdough bread, seasonal (hatch chili) hummus, and spinach-artichoke dip. I will, without a doubt, return to Truckee River Winery to soak up the sun and enjoy wine at an amazing location! read more

We have driven past this winery a dozen times each summer and always said we should try it. It is always packed with people on the lawn, on the bocce courts and it just looks like a great spot to hang out. Yesterday, we decided to make good on our threat to stop. Upon arrival, it was clear this place is very dog friendly. My dog had more fun making friends than we did drinking wine! Dogs inside, dogs outside, dogs to pet, dogs everywhere! I was in dog heaven. We decided on two different tastings, the signature tasting and the Pinot noir vertical, so we could both try lots of their options. We opened our tab, got the first taste and went outside to sit at one of the many cafe tables with umbrellas. The atmosphere was friendly, people were just out having a good time with groups of family, friends, having picnics and enjoying a Saturday summer afternoon. The wines were completely decent. Our favorites were the Malbec and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Pinot Noirs were also very nice. While we didn't take any wine with us in the end, we did enjoy the experience and would definitely come back. read more

Cozy fire, rocking chairs, friendly staff! What more can I say? Came here with the hubby and doggie during a winter storm. Boy, am I glad we did! We were able to escape the cold and snow AND enjoy wines, cheese, and chocolate. They are super dog friendly (meaning, dogs are allowed inside the tasting room)! In fact, we got to meet their winery dog Max who is super cute. We came while they had their Valentine's special which was $40 and included a wine, cheese, and chocolate pairing. We enjoyed that a lot! We also tried their hot mulled wine, sparkling wine tasting ($10) and regular tasting ($5). We ended up taking back 3 bottles with us. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very clean and cozy. We probably spent over three hours here total. It was great! What a shame that we've been vacationing in Tahoe for all these years and it was only this weekend that we finally made it to this establishment! Such a fun and inviting spot. They are so supportive of community events, have a great property, wonderful owners, family friendly atmosphere, and nice deli style food options. Located in a small quaint house but they have a variety of hang out areas -- inside at the bar, a cool back room area, plenty of outdoor seating and outdoor games like boche. We learned that they get a lot of grapes from Lodi and produce wines in-house and out then on tap! The folks making the wine were also serving it! They provide a great spread of cheese and charcuterie. I even had a tasty panini and they have 3 different kinds of soups available. There are both locals and travelers. Nice little gem in Truckee. My husband found this place via Yelp, and trust me, it would be easy to drive right past it without noticing it. It's a really tiny tasting room with a bar (5 seats), a small table for 2 inside, and a rocking bench outside. However, like everyone mentioned, they have bocce ball courts outside so you can enjoy your wine out there as well. $5 for regular tasting, and $10 for reserve tasting. Not bad at all considering you get about 5 wines to taste. Quite a few of their wines on the reserve list received awards from the San Francisco Chronicle. Overall their wines were not bad. I think the regular tasting wines were just ok. The Malbec Rose was quite interesting but sadly was not something I really enjoyed, despite liking Rose's usually. I did however, like my Pinot Gris quite a bit and ended up buying a bottle of that to take with me. Their Merlot and Pinot Noir were also quite delightful and because the price was a tad high on the Merlot, we walked away with a bottle of the Pinot instead. Good wines overall. The tasting experience was quite nice as the staff were quite friendly. I also liked that they are dog friendly here (if your dog is well behaved), so we were able to bring our Golden Retriever inside with us. He got to meet the big 110lb schnauzer that belonged to the owner's daughter. And guess what? They offer food as well. Thank goodness because my husband and I had a bagel before driving up to the snow park with our dog,and didn't get a chance to grab lunch, until we made it to the winery at 5pm. We both ordered a half sandwich, half soup that came with a bag of chips and a small brownie ($11). I had the corn chowder, which had too many potatoes, with a Proscuitto Panini on sourdough. The sandwich was surprisingly good. I didn't care much for the soup though. My husband's chili was a better choice. The brownie they served is worth complimenting because it went so well with their Aprese Dessert Wine. It was totally unintentional, but after taking a bite, I drank a sip of my dessert wine and was shocked at how well it paired. They obviously didn't do it intentionally but something they ought to consider! It was so good, I made my husband try it . I even took his brownie to pair with the dessert wine I had (not offered in the reserve tasting). Solid 4 stars! Not to mention that they had the cutest wine trinkets, tumblers and champagne glasses to sell. Do stop by if you're around! read more

This is one of the best places to go chill out. They have a minor but well established selections of beer on tap (5). A great selection of bottled beers and a great selection of wines. The bocce courts are laid back (6 of them) and they have some grills so you can bring your own food and cook on the premisses, just buy your alcohol from them. We were pleasantly surprised with the taste of the wines, but the 5 stars are most importantly for the wonderful experience we had! The only winery in the area! This would make you think that it could just be okay if they wanted to be, since hey, they're the only TRUE winery in the area. But nay. I SAY NAY! They are fantastic. My husband and I came in on a Wednesday to escape the Sacramento heat. Since it was barely past 5pm, we were the only two there, inside at least. We chose to taste the reserve list (for $10 a person, which was discounted off the bottles we bought to some degree) and every wine we tasted was enjoyable. The woman that served us (damned if I could remember her name) was fantastic. She didn't just stand there staring at us while we tasted, but instead chatted a bit between pouring our tastings and working around the shop. We ended up buying a chardonnay since it was a perfectly tart summery wine. I didn't look around the shop too much otherwise but they had a wide variety of mustards which a girl can appreciate. Outside they have bocce courts and they actually have tournaments! I'd love to come up one day for one of these and enjoy whichever food truck they have on hand. Only complaint is that the indoor area was rather warm. The cool bevvies did help that a bit but it would have been nice to not have been mopping my brow whilst sipping. read more

I loved this place! The place has a cozy and rustic vibe that fits the Truckee scene perfectly. The ability to sit outside and drink around an open fire pit just makes me melt! We went to wine taste and I was very impressed with the wine itself as there are not many wineries like that in the Truckee area. The wine was good, especially their reds! I loved the tempranillo best. The staff was very friendly, hip and knowledgeable. I was impressed that they knew more about wine then just what they were selling like different grapes, regions, law, food pairing, etc. I also like the labels on the bottles, and I know you can't judge a book by its cover, but it definitely helps. Coming to The Truckee River Winery as a third stop in Truckee for us was probably a better idea then coming here first and tasting (drinking) wine on an empty stomach. The winery is easy to find, just up the road a little thru the roundabout from the Fifty Fifty Beer Brewery. The winery opens at 11am every day in the summer and opens till 9pm, which is way better than the wineries down in the wine country that close at 3-4pm. This winery also sells a limited amount food, mainly Panini style sandwiches as well as nonalcoholic drinks if you have children with you. None of the wines really set my lights to blinking, but none were bad. Most of the grapes are grown in the Sac and San Joaquin valleys. I didn't get any of their wine, but it was a nice stop anyways. read more

The wine here is just ok for the most part. They have a very good pinot, but it's also pretty expensive. The top selling point for this place is the space. It's dog friendly, (always a plus in my mind) and it has fun games to play. There are several bocce courts and some cornhole boards. If you're up in Tahoe and enjoying good weather I highly recommend getting a bottle of wine and just hanging outside playing some bocce. If it's too cold the inside tasting room is cozy although small. This has become a must do activity on our visits to the north side of the lake. read more

They also have seating inside for when it's too cold to enjoy the fresh air. They also have a full kitchen and serve killer cheese plates (so many to choose from) paninis, soup, and other snacks. The last time I visited they had a Thanksgiving wine tasting special for $10 and 6 tasting. They also had a few menu items on special. For Shop Local Saturday they did 29% off merch and 9% off wine. After we did our tastings we bought a bottle of the nouveau, which was delicious and perfect for drinking in the afternoon. The cheese plates was amazingggg, there so many good meats (3 kinds) and cheeses (6 kinds) and picked veggies. The cheese plate we choose was on the pricey side but it was so yummy and shared with a few friends it was worth it. Will def be coming back for many visits! read more

There are two tasting menus I went with the reserve ($10) and was so glad I did. I'm a red girl however I really loved their Chardonnay as much ask did their Malbec.
