RUDEST PEOPLE EVER - OVERPRICED FOOD. I don't know what that last reviewer was talking about when they said this place has reasonable prices, it must have been the owner writing his own review because this place is not only very overpriced, but the people who work there are some of the rudest/nastiest people I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. First, the place is almost empty the few times I have gone there and now I know why. I now will only go to Tru Value at Pender Island if I'm really desperate, otherwise, I wouldn't be caught dead at this store. The store has a real negative vibe. You walk in and you get nothing from anyone - no greeting, no hello, no smiles, no acknowledgement whatsoever, if anything, you'll get nothing but dirty looks from the people who work there. God forbid you need to ask someone something or if you need help finding something because the employees all act like you are a major inconvenience to them and you will get treated poorly no matter who you are; at least they don't discriminate when it comes to being so hateful. I've now been on this crummy island for 6 months and every single person I've talk to about this store who lives on this island has agreed with me and told me that this store has a notorious reputation for being extremely rude to their customers, lacking any professionalism or common courtesy. I have had nothing but really really negative experiences at Tru Value - the store name in itself is a bit of an oxymoron. The other day, I had ordered something at the deli and the lady behind the counter got my order wrong; when I asked her to please fix it, she became so hostile and began yelling at me, making a scene, saying (yelling), "This is what you asked for" and then slammed my order on the table, huffing and puffing like an animal. The owner of the store was sitting at a nearby table watching the entire thing and he did nothing to defend me or rectify this person's nasty behavior. The level of rudeness and unprofessionalism from the store employees and management is off the chart. You would think management would care, but why would they when they behave the same way. One of my first experiences at this store was with the store manager/owner; I approached him to ask where I could find a particular item and instead of giving me answer, he just looked at me and literally just walked away completely me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and I thought to myself, "Did he really just walk away in the middle of my question; did that just really happen?" Then, it happened 2 more times and that's when I realized, this guy is a real piece of work and no wonder everyone here is so miserable. I feel like they know they are the only grocery store on the island and they act like you are at their mercy, like they are doing you a favor by letting you shop at their store. I have so many horrible stories about this place that I could literally write a book. The other day, I was talking to someone who used to work at this store, and and she informed me that last summer all the cashiers were gathered around, talking trash and saying how much they "hated tourists, particularly Americans." Do they not realize its the tourist who pay their bills? The first month I was there, I spent over $700 in groceries, which for the same amount I would have received 3 times more anywhere else. After seeing how rude they are at Tru Value Pender Island, I avoid going there as much as possible and will only get a few items if I'm desperate. Do they not know how much business they are losing based on their nasty behavior towards their customers and the general public? Its no wonder this place is empty most of the time. read more
