My hotel gave me a couple of free passes to check this gym out. After reading the reviews, I can see why since many patrons don't have nice things to say. My knock against it is the people don't put their weights back and they leave their belongings out everywhere. I'm not trying to knock over your water bottle or step on your iPhone while I'm searching for the 20-25lb dumbbell weights that were probably misplaced by some dumbbell. There are machines a plenty and I did not have any issues with the staff. There's also an place to hang your keys/jacket but do so at your own risk. They have rooms for spin and Zumba classes as well. I probably wouldn't have come here if not for the free passes but it beats working out at the hotel's exercise room. read more

Trufit is the cheapest gym I've ever seen, which may entice you into signing up for a contract with them, as I did. I regret signing up for this gym so much. On one hand, it's super cheap. But you get what you pay for. Everything is always broken (all all the locations), you're surrounded by a bunch of high school kids who just take all the weights and leave them strewn about the entire gym so basically nothing is ever available because it's never put back. Of course, it wouldn't be fair to judge a business by how rude the other patrons are so... My customer service experience: your payments can only be made through direct deposit, so when your contract is up and you submit the paperwork to cancel (and the employees don't submit it properly), they will continue to withdrawal money directly from your checking account. I've been emailing and calling their billing department about this for MONTHS and they just say that they'll talk to a manager and hang up. Every single time. Nothing ever gets done and they still have not refunded me. Additionally, I filled out the paperwork to cancel several months before my last day. I had it marked in my calendar and did everything I was supposed to. Steer clear of this company, they will overdraw from your account even if you are a responsible person and submit all the necessary paperwork to cancel. I had been a gym member at several clubs up until about 20 years ago. I wanted to start firming back up and taking off some weight, so I joined Tru Fit. I like the machines as there are plenty of them and they always seem to be available. My biggest complaint is about the gawd-awful rap music they play at a too-loud volume. I put in earplugs to block it, but I still hear it. I've asked staff if they could switch it up a bit and the guy said no, that comes down from the higher-ups. Staff wants you to wipe down the machines before and after use with this spray in a bottle they use. They are not readily available and I've found the used towels on the floor and on the machines. It's nasty! My advice would be to try to recruit new members that are from different age groups than the 20 to 30 year olds. You'll find older people can be more respectful and less work to clean up after. As far as music goes, find a playlist that MANY people would like to hear rather than the stuff 15 to 25 year olds listen to. read more

Wouldn't recommend this gym unless it's one of your only options or nothing really bothers you. Staff can be rude, customer service is non existent. Try to cancel your membership and they'll keep charging you. Also there is a yearly fee they do not state when you're signing up so get ready to pay that it's about 70 bucks. Machines are broken or worn. Restrooms are nasty. Music is horrible and for some weird reason they only play the food network and local news on the tvs with the exception of the ones in the front that nobody can really see. There had been water leaks on the roof where they'll just have a bucket catching the dripping water. Last, but not least and worst of all their hours are TERRIBLE. When I signed up for this gym is was advertised as 24 hours Monday through Friday !!! Those hours still have not came back! At this point it's getting ridiculous. It's 5:45PM on a Monday and they're already closed ! Their hours are all over the place as some locations close and different times. Funny thing is their hours online and on their window doesn't match up at all with the actual hours they are doing. Long story short it's a horrible gym, but in the rio grande valley there really isn't a lot of options so I'm stuck here .This place sucks. read more

Do not sign up for this gym. They make it impossible to cancel your gym membership. I was willing to pay the 300$ to cancel my one year contract which is almost over by the way and they still wouldn't let me cancel it until the manager came in who decided not to even show up. The gym itself is fine. It's the women of all shapes that leave their crap everywhere that is truly aggravating. This needs to get under control. Dirty ass women, you know who you are leaving equipment everywhere. Stop looking at yourself and pick up after your God damn self. Not the best but I don't think it's the worst gym in the RGV. I stay in the woman's area mostly but it's a small space and can get crowded so I go at weird hours. The machines are second hand so they do break or need maintenance more often. Overall I would say the gym is just 'MEH'. read more

This is most likely the worse gym I have stepped in. They treat there members very very rudely. I been a member for over a year and had Personal training for one year. Not only is it a waste of money because no one is helping you reach your fitness goal not even the trainers. This gym is a decent size but not easy to work out in. There are several machines that have been broken for over a month and they just leave them broken. Most of the machines have the pin for the weight stack missing so you have to go and hunt one down from another machine. Nobody can put weights where they belong staff doesn't even pretend to care i.e. putting a sign up or trying to keep it organized themselves. I can go in to workout on Monday and get irritated enough to organize the dumbbells and by the time I go back on Tuesday it's worse than it was the day before. I am very disappointed with this gym and how they perceive their clients. I have been out of the gym routine for a while now since I injured my arm. After conveying this to the manager and sales associate and wanting to see if I could get a pass for a few days, I was told that I could not since I did not have local drivers license (even though I did have other proof of residency). do not recommend this club at all. i was charged on my account despite paid cash on site. i called varios locations . clueless!!!! i called corporate office to resolve clueless. no one knows anything no one knows what to do. they do not answer their phones. someone at the corporate said they would refund mkney after 30 to 45 days. but are prompt to charge you in a matter of seconds. if there was a negative 20 stars ioption i would do so. Equipment is always broken. I tell manager and still doesn't get fixed. Garbage laying all over. Broken belts, cables ripped pads. I don't think they care other than to make money! Empty paper towel holder can't w. Don't go to this gym. My husband and me cancelled 30 days before we went back north for summer. Still being charged on our credit card. I have nothing against any Tru Fit employee. Not even the ones that suck at their job. My issue is with the company itself and their bottom-line policies. I recently lost my job, my car, my savings, and with it, my apartment. Hence, a gym membership at this point was a luxury, not a necessity. Regardless, I did not want to cancel my membership in the hopes that I would land back on my feet soon. I instead opted to freeze my account. Unfortunately, due to company policy, losing your only source of income and assets were not reason enough to freeze my membership. Are you kidding? I've been a member for over 5 years, never missed a payment and I can't get a simple freeze during my hardship?? "Sorry sir. Company policy." You're probably asking yourself, "Why didn't you just cancel your membership?" You need money to cancel your membership. More specifically, you need to pay for another month (e.g., Say you cancel in March, even though March is fully paid for, you're still in debt for April.) What's $20 dollars, right? Pay it and you're free You know that saying "You don't know unless you know" Well, if you've never been in the position where you have to decide between buying your 2 year old food or pay a gym membership, then you don't know what $20 is worth for someone like me.
