I have been swimming laps for 25 years. The last 5 have been at Gold's Pharr location. I have made many new friends swimming there. My favorite thing about their pool is that its heated in the winter. I haven't had that luxury ever before. It is so wonderful to not miss 4 months of swimming. Im not sure what a previous reviewer meant when he said it wasn't heated. Many friends who swim there tell me they have tried the locations in Mission and Dove Ave. According to them this is the best location for maintenance and cleaning always being attended to. Even though I personally don't use the weights or machines all the staff are always pleasant and friendly. read more

I went to golds gym to try it out, I was thinking about changing from tru fit to golds. I didn't switch because the pool was dirty and the jacuzzi wasn't working. I keep hearing about people having billing problems and problems canceling. I was going to pay cash for the whole year so they couldn't put their sticky fingers in my bank account. I joined Gold's Gym because it's the only gym in the Rio Grande Valley with a swimming pool. I don't use other facilities other than the pool. The hours of operation on weekends are a bit limited, only 8AM to 8PM. They are lucky 24-hour fitness doesn't have a facility in the Rio Grande Valley to compete with them. The lockers are very small, and hard to keep clothing and gym bag together in that tiny hole. I went swimming on December 1, 2022, and the weather was cold, but the pool was okay. One big problem is that the pool is outdoor, and the street noise from vehicle was deafening. I went swimming again on December 2, 2022. The pool water level was about 6 inches below normal. No sign the pool was under maintenance, and no attendance was seen in the maintenance area. Water temperature was hot like it's a hot tub. The chlorine level was extremely high. If it wasn't outdoor, I imagine it would rust all the steels in the area. I mentioned the problem with the pool to the watchman of the gym. He couldn't care less. He only worked there. I mentioned the problem on Gold's Gym's Twitter page, and no one responded. It's like they only care about people signing up for membership, but not about keeping the facilities in good order. This is truly pathetic. For people who have to travel for work for covid, this gym would not honor my golds membership as they told me I am a global partner. I can stay however, if I pay an additional 10 dollars for the day pass. Not to mention I already pay 60 dollars a month for my membership as it is. The night staff are highly inventive and I hope karma serves them well over the holidays.I was never notified of this change and it's flakey that they share the gold gym name but want more money due to covid. read more

This has become my new gym and hopefully the one that will help me get back to shape for my wedding. The moment I crossed the front door I was received in a very good way that made me feel welcome. I had heard stories of how strict they were and how only the more fit people would come to these gyms but I came to realize all these stories weren't true. If anything they do have certain dress codes that you have to follow but this only helps make the gym better which makes it a better experience for everyone. I took advantage of the specials they had at the beginning of the year in which you simply pay a one dollar sign up fee and $39 a month for a full year. I don't know about you but this is a great deal which is what other gyms usually charge but you get a a lot of quality at this gym when it comes to equipment and facilities. I recommend this gym anyone looking to improving their looks or simply wanting to live a healthier lifestyle. read more

Very bad policies after a year of paying them for free becuz I never used their service, I went on several occasions to cancel and they told me no just wait till the year is over. I didn't know I had an automatic renewal established by them, very tricky they didn't say that when I tried cancelling last year.. Its been over 3 months they are still charging and adding fees and now I'm trying again to cancel and I can't becuz I owe them for past 3 months that it should have been cancelled. I'm from Houston and when I travel I workout and try different gyms to get a good feel for them so when I return I have my go to place. Well I can say that this place will be one of my spots to to return to. The equipment is clean and in working order. One of the worst gyms I've ever been to. Dirty, the people are pieces of work and don't care for the gym at all. The restrooms were filthy, the front staff were arrogant, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting, the weight benches were ripped and the weights were torn and in terrible shape. Doesn't seem to hard to keep this place clean at least, but that was obviously too difficult. Don't waste your money coming here. This place is not a gym, it's a zoo. read more

Nobody seems to work here except for the front desk. People leave their bags in the walkways, take up multiple machines, and drop weights. I've never seen anyone tell anybody anything about respecting the gym and other people that are working out. The pool is a dingy yellow color and the jacuzzi is really disgusting. Plus, if you did want to enjoy the pool, there are not any chairs or lounge chairs for relaxing poolside. There are not any good things to say about this location. read more

I was never a big fan of gyms but my experience at Pharr Gold's Gym changed how I perceived gyms. I appreciate the friendly greeting as we walk in and I especially love how every instructor takes the time to help out when needed. I feel the gym is seriously breaking fire code. So much that I want to call the fire Marshall. At times, the parking obstructs our ability to leave. Park right behind you or in the red. No one pays attention. The gym is seriously over capacity. It is impossible to work out, or to even leave. I'm hoping to get taken out of my contract. I don't see how a gym can overcrowd and not be held accountable. I will report them. Another thing, they do not have paper towels for wiping things up. Very disgusting. Only wet towels. The gym is no longer caring of it's members, only how many people they can jam pack. Terrible. The hours are a joke. They were closed on days that Max Fitness stayed open. I've been a member since mid-2018, shortly after I got out of the hospital. Once cleared for exercise, I started with both walking and lifting. At 60 years old, I'm not going after world's records, but the changes have been pretty damn amazing. I've dropped 40 lbs, probably 10 lbs. of muscle, moved down 1.5" of shirt neck size and am probably stronger than I have been my entire life- my arms are AMAZING! My glucose has gone from about 118 to 100 and is on the way down from there. Resting pulse rate down to 60BPM. I feel GREAT. Usually on the treadmill by 6am 4 days a week- if I feel sorry for myself getting up at 5 I just think to how many people were already there when I arrived and I'm pretty well cured. Get a trainer to show you around so you don't get hurt and maximize your results. Great facility, customers, staff. 5 stars. read more

Purchased a day pass for $15 here. It's valid for 24 hours. The gym is spacious and not too crowded. I loved using the pool here too. The sauna and steam room in the locker room were also nice touches. The gym also has a great smoothie bar. My only complaint about this gym is that members fail to re-rack weights properly and management fails to correct the mistake. read more

This isn't a review on the gym itself but the massage business located inside the gym. During a recent massage the therapist was constantly texting during both my and my husband's sessions! My husband figured out what was going on halfway through his treatment but was too shy to say anything. I almost said something after my session, but couldn't find a way of mentioning it without sounding confrontational. I've never experienced such a thing in my life!!! read more

This facility is great, but even better is the staff, they are very friendly and professional. The only thing I would CHANGE , and personaly I don't like, is the fact they have a woman cleaning the mens showers, and that's an INVASION OF PRIVACY.How would they like to have a man cleaning the womens showers during bussiness hours? I heard it from other gym members they feel uncomfortable,and vilolated of their rights, to have a female around when they are dressing or getting ready to even go to the restroom. Like I said, everybody there is great, but I hope that with this $29.00 dls enhancement fee, they can affort a male part-timer to help this hard working lady to clean the mens showers. Oh, and before I forget, at night, they keep removing the shower curtains to wash them, leaving you no choice but to expose yourself naked to the rest of the people around when you shower. read more
