Very Disappointing -- This Hotel Needs a Thorough Overhaul…read more"Crusty" is honestly the best adjective I can use to describe the Hilton Jackson. This is a dated building that desperately needs a thorough overhaul from top to bottom. There are so many noticeable flaws throughout the property--damaged walls and doors, outdated and worn areas, filthy hallways and elevators, and common areas with decor that perhaps would have been considered top-notch 30 years ago, but now simply looks tacky and tired.
The parking lot was also somewhat unkempt, with trash and food scattered around, poor landscaping, and an overall lack of upkeep.
We were given a spacious room on the fourth floor, and there were a couple of positives. The room itself was large, the two huge closets were convenient, the beds were comfortable, and the hotel was remarkably quiet. We rarely heard other guests, doors slamming, or other typical hotel noise. The hotel is also pet friendly, which was important to us because we were traveling with our small dog. The location is quite good, with plenty of restaurants and amenities nearby and easy access to major roads and highways.
Unfortunately, the positives end there.
The furniture in our room was extremely worn. The carpeting was old and stained, and the refrigerator barely worked. The charging outlets were loose and didn't work properly. The television had an overall blue haze to the picture. The coffee maker was missing its lid and was visibly dusty, as though it hadn't been used or cleaned in a very long time. Needless to say, we did not make coffee.
The bathroom was particularly disappointing. The shower had virtually no water pressure, and the water was lukewarm rather than hot. The wheelchair-accessible shower floor had some sort of broken, crusty plastic tray-like thing sitting in it, which was both unsightly and concerning.
The towels were another issue. For two adults staying in a room with two queen-size beds, we were provided with only two large towels, one hand towel, and one face cloth. That's simply inadequate for two people.
The sheets on our bed were torn and/or stained. The linens did smell strongly of bleach, which at least gave us some reassurance that they had been washed, but clean-smelling linens don't make up for visibly damaged and stained bedding.
And then there are the elevators. Only one of the four elevators was working, and the one functioning elevator took an incredibly long time to get from floor to floor. Combined with the filthy elevators and hallways, this made getting around the hotel an unpleasant experience.
There were a few basic toiletries provided--shampoo, conditioner, and two bars of soap--which was fine, but again, the overall condition of the property overshadowed these small positives.
It is really too bad because this hotel could be so much more. The location is good, the rooms are spacious, the property is quiet, it is pet friendly, and the price point is reasonable. But we've stayed at other hotels at the same price point that offered considerably more and, more importantly, felt clean, comfortable, welcoming, and cared for.
We've also stayed at other Hilton properties in the past and had much better experiences, which made this stay particularly disappointing.
For us, the condition of this property was enough that we would not stay here again and cannot recommend it to others. The number of maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep issues we encountered was simply too extensive to overlook.
Our experience was disappointing enough that we feel it merits contacting Hilton's corporate office directly. Hopefully, the property can receive the substantial renovation and attention it clearly needs, because underneath all the wear and neglect, there is a hotel here that could be quite good.
Overall: Very disappointing. The price may be reasonable, but there are better options at the same price point.
