Now it's my son's turn for his first round and I'm so glad we have the option of Benson Orthodontics now that we are in TN! We had NO IDEA just how terrible our previous orthodontist was until we started treatment here. We have felt welcome from the moment we called to make our first appointment. Everyone is so friendly. Dr. Benson was very informative when explaining the treatment my son would need, and Rhonda is fantastic at explaining and working with you to figure out the financial aspect of it all. The welcoming environment is just the tip of the iceberg. We were greeted with a front row parking spot marked with my son's name and balloons for his first appointment, which made him feel a little less nervous. The young lady who placed his brackets and wires talked him through what she was doing, while she was doing it, so he wasn't so anxious. I love that I'm able to sit in the treatment area with him and that they have a brushing station and video games nearby, so I don't have to worry about making sure he brushes at school before his appointment if we don't have time. At our previous orthodontist, we felt like we were being herded through like cattle and never felt welcome. I love that at Dr. Benson's office, they have incentives for the patients to take good care of their braces. Being rewarded for such tedious, not-so-fun tasks is fantastic for a 9 year old! Another thing that I thought was great, was the bag full of items they send home with you to help in caring for your new mouth full of metal. They gave us wax, floss, flossers, a new waterpik, toothbrush, toothpaste, a Benson tee, a guide with a list of what my child should avoid eating, etc. and a really great laminated placard to stick to his bathroom mirror that has real photos of how it looks to properly brush and clean braces, with instructions. It also has photos of what broken wires and other problems look like, so he can stay aware if something doesn't feel right in his mouth. AND to top it all off, Dr. Benson, himself, not an assistant or other member of his staff, called the first night after getting the braces placed, to check on my son. I've NEVER experienced the level of patient care provided at this office. Which is very depressing given the amount of money we gave the previous office for my daughter's care. Also, I can't end this review without mentioning the coffee station in the lobby and fresh, soft cookies on the front counter for you on your way out. My son actually WANTS to go to the orthodontist. I can't wait until they start treating my daughter for her final round of treatment as well, because I feel like she missed out on a better experience by not having Benson Orthodontics as an option. I even apologized to her for it.

I have constantly been told one timeline in person, and then every time I speak to the front desk or come in next for appointments, they change the plans or timelines. Their process to off board clients with Invisalign is flawed and very frustrating. They do not prioritize clients in their schedules who are finishing their treatment plans.

Conflicting Information & Billing Errors I received a statement for a balance I wasn't expecting. When I first called, the office admitted it was an "error" and told me to ignore it. Two weeks later, I received the exact same bill. This shows a complete lack of internal coordination. 2. Extremely Rude Front Desk I called again on 01/07/2026 at 3:30 PM to resolve the recurring issue. The staff member who answered was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of helping, they were combative and couldn't--or wouldn't--properly explain the charges. 3. Lack of Transparency This office has my insurance information on file, which means they know exactly what is and isn't covered. Despite this, they proceeded with treatment that wasn't covered without asking for my approval first. When I finally stopped by the front desk in person, they gave me a completely different reason for the charge than what was said on the phone. While they couldn't knock me out, the doctors at Snodgrass-King did everything they could to make me comfortable, and it turned out to be an awesome experience! I was given medicine to help me relax the night before and morning of the appointment, given nitrous to help me (feel loopy) relax more. Kathryn and Dr. Claire had me good and numb when she gave me the shot to numb my tooth, and had a jazzy little technique where she shook my lip back and forth to distract from the feeling of the shot, which totally worked. They made the suggestion that I wear headphones during my procedure, which I did, and I didn't feel a thing. Dr. Claire was thorough and patient and understanding, and did an outstanding job. I didn't have to sit in the waiting room for an hour, I was there about three minutes before I got called back and they got started immediately. I also had a cleaning, and Amber was the best hygienist I have ever had. Again, very professional. thorough, and very gentle on my teeth (seeing as how feeling those metal picks scraping my teeth makes me want to claw the covering off the arm rests, this was a good thing). Snodgrass-King gets a lot of flack for taking children back without their parents. I took my then 7 year old daughter there for a filling she needed, and she went back no problems. I will admit that I felt a bit of anxiety (ME, not HER) letting my precious baby go back without me, but I retired to the adults only area and enjoyed the coffee bar and big comfy couches while she had her work done. When she came out, I expected her to come to me in tears telling me how terrible it was. Instead, I got a half smiling (one side of her mouth was still completely numb) and happy kid who had absolutely no fear of the dentist. I have come the conclusion that us over-protective parents going back with the kids gives them the impression that there is something that they SHOULD be afraid of, which is probably wahat has led to my distaste for the dentist chair. First, he knew when to start, which meant waiting a year to not start too early. Then, when the time was right, he put them both in an expander, top braces across the front, and a reverse headgear. Sounded intimidating at first, but my kids were so resilient and pros in no time. In less than 6 months, both kids' bites were corrected and no longer hitting. They're on track to get their braces off soon! So grateful to Dr. Lucas and the team for their expertise, friendliness and patience to 2 young boys, and saving those permanent teeth from getting damaged.
