Of course the selection would be greater in the huge Shop Rite out on the highway, but that place is just too big, and parking is a nightmare. Parking here is almost always a breeze. However, since it is a farmers market, you would definitely think they would have a lot of fresh fruit, and veggies. Do they have a lot of fruits and veggies? Indeed they do. Are a lot of them fresh, or look okay to buy? No, not really. Still, we found some fruit that did look good. The store is not super clean. There was a lot of onion peels in the floor in one aisle. When I walked in at 11am this morning all I could hear was laughter. And laughter in a foreign tongue! I love that! The owner, a very sweet fellow, was telling a funny story (I don't speak Portuguese so one of the girls translated) while the customers were filling their bags with fresh baked bread, scooping fresh olives and choosing just the right sausage for Sunday dinner. I like to visit small businesses on the weekends when I can. There's a feeling, a vibe that you can only get on weekend mornings, especially a Sunday mornings, when everyone is relaxed and enjoying themselves. Express Deli not only has baked goods, like coconut sweet bread and at least 8 different kinds of Brazilian and Portuguese rolls, but they have fresh out of the oven rolls! Oh my gosh! There are apples and pears, and onions and potatoes, and every type of meat imaginable and Pasteis de Natas (delicious Portuguese egg custard tarts) by the dozen! Pictures just can not do this place justice. Just go. You just have to go!
