A recent addition to Gurnee. This place was very clean. Has a drive thru! Lots of parking and a good variety of healthy drinks to choose from. They also have a gender neutral bathroom. Limited seating. Highly recommend the island punch! Very refreshing and the right amount of sweetness! Limited time only so try it while you can! Service was quick and very friendly staff! This was my first time at a tropical smoothie cafe and my suspicions were correct. Smoothies are just not a good value and you're better off making your own at home. I got a request from my daughter for a sunrise sunset smoothie. A strange request on a Saturday evening. I was expecting to pay maybe $5. The total was $6.51. So I remember when a large coffee at DD cost $0.60. So yeah this seems extreme. More extreme was the 24 ounce size, which helps to explain the price. 430 calories for $6.51. Seems like a bad deal. The taste was nothing to write home about. Let's not kid ourselves that this is healthy. I'd rather spend the same money for a shake at steak and shake. Anyway the people were friendly and the place looked clean, from what I saw through the drive threw. I probably won't go back though. It's just a bad value proposition. read more

I recently tried a different location for tropical smoothie. I bought two acai bowls in the app for curbside pick up. I have never done curbside pick up and thought it would be a good opportunity because I had my baby with me. The app asked questions about the make and color of my vehicle. When I arrived to the store I did not see any reserved parking for curbside delivery, so I assumed I needed to go inside or go through the drive thru. The drive thru line was backed up, maybe 6 or 7 cars, so I decided to go in. My pick up time was 12:29. I went into the store at 12:30. My order was not ready on the pickup rack so I stood in line. When I walked into the store, there was a guy on making smoothies, he never once looked at me, or greeted me, "someone will be with you" would have been nice. There was another lady preparing the food in the back, I could see one bowl already made at 12:30. And a lady that was on the drive thru, which took her about 10 mins to acknowledge customers standing at the register inside the store. I stood in line for my order along with two other girls. The lady at the drive thru step over to the register inside the store, she helped everyone, I'm certain there was a long line of cars, and she left them for another 7mins. I don't know if it's a staffing issue here. I explained to them that I order through the app and was waiting for my bowls. I don't know if they were having a problem with their freezer, I heard the lady that was making the food say she was trying to wait for the acai to be ready, which the lady at the register said it was fine, just put it together. They gave me the bowl that had been sitting out and the second bowl seemed just the same consistency. Both were runny and soupy. The fruit sunk to the bottom of the bowl. I didn't want to wait longer to try to get anyone to correct it because, no one seemed to care due to the lack of customer service. I got my food at 12:45, which isn't a crazy wait, but it's hard when you feel like there was a lack customer service. I thought about calling to speak to the manager, I have never been so disappointed, and I regularly use their app, I love the rewards, but this has definitely turned me off. read more

Ordered lunch using curbside pickup. Went to pick up my order in the parking spot designated for curbside pickup and called the number listed to tell them I was there and no one answered. I tried calling multiple times with no answer. I decided to go through the drive thru, there was about 6 cars ahead of me I finally got to the speaker and told the individual I was here for a curbside pickup I called and no one was answering she instructed me to wait till I got to the window. When I finally got to the window it was 20 minutes past my curbside pickup time. I requested to speak with the manager the lady came back and said he was busy and to come talk to him when it slowed down and I told her I couldn't I was on my lunch and I would like new food since it was sitting out for 20 minutes and I explained the situation. The manager arrived and I again explained what happened and I would like new food, he said it will be 10 minutes to make new food and to wait in a parking spot I told him I was going to wait at the window since I already waited in a parking spot and drive thru and he threatened to call the police on me. I was going to tell him to cancel my order but he was already gone. When he returned I told him I would like to just cancel my order, he then gave me money and the food and told me never to come back. Terrible customer service. I called corporate to explain what had happened. No manager should treat customers that way. read more

Placed an order through the app for a 12:30pm pickup last Friday and had to wait another 25 mins for my order to be ready. Missed my lunch break and then some. It seems that they either need help or they need schedule more support around crunch time hours. I was one of many frustrated customers waiting for my order. I hope they get better and that the supervisor that was there learns to de-escalate and improve his customer service. I saw a lot of people ask for their orders and he was constantly saying "we're busy". There was this one lady who tried to suggest that maybe the app ordering system needs to be improved for better flow after she received her order and the supervisor let the situation blow out of proportion. read more

I went today for the free smoothies (if you wore flip flops then you got a free smoothie today) and it was solid. They only had 1 flavor for the deal and it was tropical island, which was similar to a pineapple smoothie. The service was very good, the smoothies were made quick and they had enough workers to make everything that was ordered. The restaurant itself is nice, there is a drive through and outdoor seating to go along with the indoor seating. The inside is a little smaller though so not a ton of customers would be able to sit in there. read more

I haven't had a service issue, but the smoothies are weak at this location. They seem to be using too much ice. I saw my smoothie poured from the pitcher this morning, and a significant amount of smoothie did not fit into the cup. It tasted too icy, and not as sweet. Smoothies should have a *smooth* texture, especially since mine had yogurt in the mix. Blending with less ice would have been better, and not have wasted product. Earlier this week, My son's chocolate banana smoothie also tasted too icy, not as sweet, and the banana in it tasted under-ripe. He normally loves his smoothies, but he said it tasted bad that day. I don't think he'll be asking to go get smoothies anymore. We've had much better luck at the Waukegan location. They have never served us anything that lacked flavor or quality. read more

I'm really pretty surprised by the negative reviews. I absolutely love this place! My smoothies are always delicious and my favorite is the Detox Island Green (though I highly recommend Sunrise Sunset, Island Green, Acai Pomegranate, and Blueberry Bliss too!). I grab the peanut butter banana granola crunch wrap as well at times and it's always delicious. Yes, their orders take a smidgen longer than a fast food restaurant, but hello?! Quality! It's either a greasy egg, cheese and some greasy meat option OR a smoothie. I will say I was a little surprised by the calorie content in some of them, but I usually get rid of the added sugars like orange juice, etc. Overall nothing bad to say about them! read more

I figured I'd welcome the new local spot with my hard-earned dollars and enjoy a tasty nutritious smoothie while I'm at it. They offer a compact menu with smoothie, salad and savory food options. I settled on the first smoothie listed, with peanut butter, banana, mango, I think, with the whey powder add-in option at no extra charge. The $7 charge caused a minor sticker shock "aneurysm" but that's common to most anyone who can still (faintly) recall the days when you could get a double-scoop ice cream cone for a buck fifty! Those days are long gone. I liked that they have a small patio area in front, but was underwhelmed that they didn't have chairs or tables to sit. I went over to a table about 10 feet away but those were for Jimano's customers. I asked the guy inside the smoothies place if I could grab a chair (he could see I had my dog with me, leased to the fence) and he had to think for a few before saying, "Sure." I'm in the service industry myself and if it were me, I would've popped off my high-top and grabbed a table and a chair for the customer. Yesterday was a gorgeous sunshiny day with temps in the 60s. Why the manager or employees didn't think to use the patio area for customers to use left me scratching my head. But their main product, the smoothie, lit my cold-tempered taste buds on fire. Unfortunately due to the low number of employees at this location they aren't able to keep up with the high number of customers coming in, as well as the high number of drive thru orders. The workers here are doing an excellent job with the pace they're expected to go. They should be paid more. Having only one young lady to make the smoothies, one other doing the drive thru orders and the single lady at the back making the food orders. Hire more at this location if you want to keep the drive thru open! read more

Slow service for DoorDash pickups. They are never ready anymore and instead late. Could also do better with greeting customers as they enter. One worker needs to better help the others when drive-thru is not busy. This same worker cannot multitask and could benefit from additional training on how to. When this restaurant first opened it was a favorite and service was efficient but has since changed in the last 6 months. Hope this feedback helps to improve overall service. read more

The cashier sees us enter together and all go in line to wait to get our orders taken. My girlfriends sisters orders her food and smoothie and without skipping a beat, the cashier by the name Natalie R gives the total. We kindly remind her that all 3 of us were together and she rudely blurts out "you guys didn't order". Me and my girlfriend stand there SHOCKED with the attitude she gave us as we were just being polite in letting her know we haven't ordered yet. I would've understood if she was in a rush. like if there was a line inside and out.
