My gluten free heaven! This has been a mainstay since they had their original location with a…read moredine-in option. They are now located near Clark and Diversey (in Lakeview still) and carry-out only. There is street parking and is located by plenty of restaurants, bars, and other shops. When waiting for your order, there are some window seats to hang out in. Interior is very clean and organized. Staff super super nice and helpful. I got a latte and the smashed avocado toast with a poached egg. It came with a side salad. It was all VERY good. The toast was perfection - can't believe it was gluten-free. I highly recommend any of their items - you won't be disappointed.

The spicy chicken sandwich $21 was extremely soggy and chewy, and their "spicy" part is just hot sauce. It had no flavor. It was such a disappointment. And the "side salad" wow. ok. drowned in vinaigrette. The Wheat's End Skillet $22 was mid. Not spicy, bread wasn't good, and their veggies were mush. Service (1/5): There was a guy and a girl working and the girl was on coffee duty, while the guy was just taking orders and talking about lotion and soft hands. It was so weird. Ambiance (2/5): At least there's like 3 seats to sit on while you wait for your food. Other than that, it's just an "order, wait 25 mins, and take your soggy food home" place. They are a gluten free place too. Everything is put into Styrofoam take-out boxes. The prices are dine-in prices for soggy, flavorless food. I understand gluten free ingredients are expensive, but $22 for a skillet where 3 (eggs, bacon, and veggies) out of the 4 items (eggs, bacon, veggies, and bread) are already naturally gluten free is disappointing. I felt ripped off. @meni - Thanks for the comment! Cute business name! ;)

They tell you on the menu that it will take an hour to prepare. Do NOT do what we did at my table and select something else. Our food took an hour to arrive ANYWAY. Wish I had the burek, because my chicken was disappointing. They give you five little slices of rye bread (for four people) and one pad of whipped butter while you're waiting. The appetizer came out 20 minutes later. The restaurant was a neat tribute to times gone by. The restauranteur revitalized a former Schlitz tavern, and preserved the Shlitz branding. You'll see the Schlitz globe on the spire of the building's exterior, and inside you'll see an oversized, cool ,retro Schlitz pendant light fixture. The tabletops are old school retro Formica, complete with metal edging. There was a large painting on masonite next to our table. The vibe is something I can appreciate. The service was warm, charming, and patient. The server offered recommendations, and told us a little bit about each dish. One of the kitchen staff came out to greet us and see how we felt about our meals. The food. Okay, again, it was just not my thing. For an appetizer we had the stuffed grape leaves--I've eaten these many times in my life. These were as good as any, and one of my favorite things to eat in a Serbian restaurant. We each had something different--one of us had eggplant, another stuffed, peppers, another the goulash, and I had chicken breasts in paprika sauce with a small side of rice. Everything is stuffed with rice. Everything. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food enough. I came in starved, having not eaten anything all day, and it was after 8 when our food came out. I was not a fan of my chicken dish--chicken prepared with the bones in -AND- the skin on (it seemed slimy to me). It was that sliding-off-the-bone slimy, that most people describe as "juicy." The flavor was onion-y and something that my palate processed as sour--and I tasted this all evening. This is not a dis to the restaurant. I think if you like this type of food, you can enjoy a good meal here. Dishes were about $28 on average. At that price point, I'd rather enjoy something else. Give it a shot. The service was impeccable.
