If you're craving real, old-school comfort food, Grandma's Recipes absolutely delivers…read more We both ordered the fried chicken, which takes about 25-30 minutes because it's made fresh and it shows. The batter is thin, crispy, and not overly heavy, and the flavor feels like something straight out of a home kitchen. This isn't fast-food fried chicken... this is Sunday dinner at grandma's. The meal itself is a lot of food for around $17: four pieces of chicken, real mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, a vegetable, a potato, plus a salad and a cup of homemade chicken noodle soup with those old-school egg noodles. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, not processed or rushed. We also tried the fried mushrooms everyone talks about, and they lived up to the hype. They use large portobello mushrooms, which makes a huge difference. No watery, soggy bite like you get at a lot of places, just a clean, meaty texture with a crispy coating. The atmosphere is calm and cozy. Lighting is dim enough to feel relaxed, and with only about 20 tables, it's not loud or chaotic. No kids running wild or constant traffic in and out, just a laid-back, "take your time" kind of vibe. The space has a log cabin feel with exposed wood, vintage décor, and black-and-white photos. The tables and chairs aren't fancy, but they're clean and fit the nostalgic charm. Service was great during our visit. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us regularly, took our order quickly, and everything came out hot. I've seen mixed reviews about inconsistent service, but our experience (first visit) was very positive. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a win. Between the generous portions, fair pricing, and genuinely homemade feel, this is the kind of place you come back to. They also offer daily specials and make many of their own desserts. I'll definitely be back to try the coconut cream pie. Overall: Comfort food done right, with a cozy, no-frills atmosphere and excellent value.

Servers are very friendly and it's what you'd expect from a normal old school Coney Island establishment nothing too fancy, a nice spot for a quick bite!

The burger patty itself was good I had crispy edges like you expect from an old school diner. But they were very small and very thin like a smashburger. The fries were completely dead they had absolutely no flavor. There's plenty of seating but the place hasn't been updated in 100 years the seats are taped together everything looks dingy. My waitress smelled like cigarettes. Just not impressed. I used to go there when I was young and drunk in the middle of the night maybe I romanticized how good Starlite is. Or maybe it's just changed over time. They do have a big parking lot and the right next to a gas station so if you need some odds and ends and they have a drive-thru which are all nice. For three hamburgers three drinks some mozzarella sticks our bill was $60 which is expensive for a diner. If I'm in the area maybe I'll stop in but I definitely won't be making a special trip.

I also got a deep fried peanut butter and jelly which was a little greasy on the outside but the inside with the melted jelly and peanut butter was sublime. I also got a "Flint Style" taco and like they say in the description "we fry our shells around here" they right we DO and they did not disappoint. It tasted like what me and my family make in our own kitchen. The meat had lots of flavor, the shell was a crispy corn shell and the toppings were fresh and crunchy. The last thing I got was a cheeseburger. The roll was buttery I think it was brioche and the hamburger was tasty, crispy on the edges and fell apart with just the right amount of juice ....you could tell it was not overworked when it was pattied; again like you would make in your own kitchen. I don't know who's cooking there but they are throwing down and I'll definitely be back! Everything had so much flavor and it was so well seasoned. I cannot speak to the actual restaurant itself as far as seating or parking or ambience or the kind of vibe or anything because I doordashed but I'd like to go and dine in soon because I'm definitely going to be a regular customer.
