Overall, I would recommend…read moreAstral Catering for the variety and quality of their food and for the help that they provided in setting up the reception site in a short time (three hours). More detailed reviews about the food and service are below. FOOD: From the start, my husband and I were impressed with the variety of food options offered by Astral Catering, and the chef was enthusiastic to work with us and even provide food that was not their menu. For our reception, we had three different passed appetizers plus three different food stations (hamburger, buffalo chicken, and black bean sliders; macaroni and cheese with mix-ins of your choice; and shrimp cocktail plus grilled vegetables). My husband and I thought everything was delicious and loved that it wasn't just your typical wedding food. SERVICE: After we had given our first check to Astral Catering, we had some communication issues, due in part to the employee initially assigned to our account leaving the company, but they were professional in resolving the miscommunications. Astral Catering even helped us to set up the reception in a short time, since our venue was not available until 3 hours before the event started (so we were not available to set up our candy bar, guest book table, etc. ourselves and since we did not have a wedding planner). During the reception, they also delivered food and drinks directly to our table, so we were actually able to eat at our own wedding, which many of our married friends warned us we might not get to do. TIP: Make sure to bring your checkbook to pay, as there is an extra fee if paying using a credit card.

He is exactly what we were looking for in a wedding DJ. First, he was very professional. He was on time to every meeting that we set. He was very thorough and made sure that our reception was exactly how we wanted it. He emailed out a wedding itinerary about a week before the wedding and confirmed with us that everything was just right. He was also very flexible. My side of the family enjoys tejano music and he was happy to play songs off of cd's that my mother brought for the event. He also took my wife's requests seriously and played the genres of music we wanted along with special songs that we wanted played at certain times throughout the reception. He was an excellent MC. Mike made sure that the wedding flowed perfectly. He communicated well with both me and my wife and made sure that we were always prepared to move to the next part of the reception. Finally, Mike is a friendly, laid back person. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and we highly recommend him!

Okay I'm going to try and not be too harsh. I wrote a very long review of these guys on my…read morelivejournal already. I hired DJs Unlimited for my wedding reception. For reference, my wedding was in October 2007. I first contacted them in March 2007. I filled out their forms, and agreed to pay them $500 for their services. They do not require a deposit. I contacted them again in August to make sure they still had us in their schedule. They did. I contacted them again at the beginning of October so that I could meet with my DJ and discuss song choices with the DJ. One of the DJs called me back and told me he'd be DJing my wedding. He was kind of rude and kept saying, "I can't believe you've waited this long to get a DJ, I can't believe you've waited this long to contact us!" After SEVERAL of these comments, I was like, UMMM I first reserved yall in March. He seemed surprised. Later in the conversation, he said he could meet with me to talk in Round Rock. I live in Houston. My wedding was going to be in Houston. He was shocked, he thought my wedding would be in Austin. Apparently, because my cell phone number had a 512 area code (I went to school there), DJs Unlimited assumed my wedding would be in Austin and didn't take the time to read a few lines down on their form and see that my wedding would be in Houston. So they assigned me the Austin DJ. Fine. I guess that's an easily-made mistake. A few days later I met with this DJ in person. He kept making comments like, "Wow I've never met a bride like you before, I can't believe you haven't chosen these songs yet!!!!!" He wasn't saying this in a joking fashion, he was actually taken aback by my "lack of preparation". And the songs he couldn't believe I hadn't chosen were the flipping cake cutting song and anniversary dance song. I apparently wasn't bridezilla enough for him because I wasn't f-ing freaking out about the cake cutting song! Anyway, I was not very happy with being insulted by a DJ. During this meeting, I also paid an extra $250 for a screen and projector system to be set up and run during the beginning of the reception. When I met with the reception people, they told me I could get a screen and projector for them for $150. I contacted DJs Unlimited and told them I was canceling my order for the screen and projector. I get another call from the DJ concerning my songs, I think we were confirming another song choice. He again seemed to be under the impression that my wedding was in Austin. I told him it was in Houston. Fast forward to a few days before the wedding. I receive a call from another DJ, different from the one I previously dealt with, and he tells me he will be the DJ for my wedding. Okaaay. Fine. This guy tells me that he knows where my reception location is and he will see me on Saturday. The DJ was fine at the wedding, although of the 5-6 songs I requested be played that I had discussed with the first DJ, only one was played. These songs were special to my husband and I, and they were left out. The real irritation I had with DJs Unlimited was that it took them a good 5 months and many, many phone calls for them to refund my $250. I was so irritated. I first canceled the order in mid-October and did not receive a refund from them until mid-March. To be honest, I would not recommend DJs Unlimited to anyone. They were probably the most difficult wedding vendor I dealt with. I did not appreciate being insulted by the first DJ, and I really didn't appreciate them constantly telling my husband our check was in the mail when it wasn't. They get two stars because the DJ at the wedding was an overall good DJ. Dealing with the company, however, was not a good experience.

I am a Houston bride who attests to the hard work and dedication that this company boasts. Previous…read morereviews are related to a different company, essentially, since this group is recently under new management. Please, disregard and move forward with the best decision you'll ever make (and I mean that in every context of the phrase.) The "new" En Vogue was the best choice I made for my wedding. Stephanie (owner) is my coordinator, and she is everything a busy girl needs in her life. Stephanie is like a personal assistant-wedding edition, and she genuinely cares about bringing your vision forward. I cannot stress how important it is to have a coordinator who is ON, all the time. Since I have a crazy schedule and unpredictable work hours/home hours/school hours, it was imperative that I select a full service package. And y'all-En Vogue delivers. She texts me, calls me, tags me, picks up vendor samples for me, proof reads emails for me, communicates with all the top vendors in the city, and goes above and beyond to de-stress a very stressful season in my already-chaotic life. I knew that wedding planning while balancing my full time job and full time school, among life's other surprises, would be a challenge. But she and her team make it feel organized. Essentially, Stephanie's most frequented phrases are "Do you see this for YOUR wedding?" And It's taken care of." Do yourself a favor and don't have a small stroke while planning your wedding. This team knows exactly what they're doing and their kindness and dedication shows.

I am very surprised to see all of the positive reviews on Wedding Channel regarding, En Vogue…read moreEvents, because I had the complete opposite service. To start off, it is not my goal to defame En Vogue Events, I am still a bride and customer service is HUGE to me. When looking for vendors, I want the opinions of an honest bride to help me, before signing a contract with a vendor. So, this is my reason for writing. I cancelled my services with the company over two (2) weeks ago and purposely waited this long before writing a review, to see if Haley Hughes would call to reconcile and admit to not following the contract, the company never called/email to apologize, so I decided to let her brides know what I experienced. If I were a confrontational person, who was rude and derogative, then I can expect a company/individual no longer provided their services, but I am the complete opposite. I just expect to get what I paid for and for a company/individual to do their job. I am still in the process of planning my wedding and when I worked with En Vogue Events, it started off okay, but then I noticed Haley would not respond to emails in a timely manner, I would have to remind her to send over timelines, she did not attend the floral meeting (which was stated on the signed contract), she did not contact me to attend meeting with other vendors (also on the signed contract), unreturned phone calls/emails...etc. When I first met with Haley, I mentioned that customer service is the most important quality of a company. She expanded on how she is great at that, she is anal and so business will get done...etc. Just last this month (May 2011), I had to cancel with her in the middle of my planning, because there is no way I wanted to give someone thousands of dollars and they did not care about my wedding When I realized I could not take it anymore, my fiancée and I schedule a meeting with Haley to discuss how this business relationship is not working and what she was going to do; since she did not follow parts of the contract. She understands that my fiancée and I live 60 miles out of the city, so we had to prepare the night before to meet with her. She wrote me around noon, the day we would meet, to cancel. This was not the first meeting she cancelled. After that, I knew she did not care about our wedding. Our venue in Dallas is beautiful and most of the brides who host their wedding there, is willing to pay a lot of money for vendors. Our contact at the hotel has many years of experience and loves to hear about vendors, so she can recommend to her brides. We also plan on having our wedding figured in magazines and websites, which would have also brought her additional contacts. I have no idea if it was a personal grudge (which I have no idea why it would be, because Haley and I barely spoke, she only showed to one meeting to get to know me.) The hotel recommended a new planner in Dallas and we are so happy. I said I would not go over budget for a planner, but I did, just because her recommendations from the hotel, and from other brides was positive. So if someone is willing to go above and beyond, we are willing to pay. This is a long email and I did not included other instances my fiancée and I had with En Vogue Events, but working with them was the absolute WORST part of planning this entire wedding. So, if you want a planner to care about you and your special day, in my opinion, this is not the company.

John was a pleasure to work with through the entire process and the music sounded perfect and magical on our big day. This string quartet was hired to play a composition recital as part of my hubby's undergraduate…read moremusic degree requirement. They were also hired by another student for their recital. They claim to be one of Houston's leading ensembles and the founder a graduate of Rice's School of Music, according to their website. They sounded pretty reputable. The other student's recital was scheduled before my hubby's so we got to see them in action a couple weeks before we would use them. My first impression I was kinda surprised by their appearance. From several years of going to performances I'm used to performance musicians wearing all black, it's pretty much the uniform. You can expect it from the Houston Symphony all the way down to your kid's piano recital. So I was a little confused when there were khakis and colored shirts. They performed in two pieces, one that was just the quartet and one with other instruments. The quartet piece they came to a halt in the middle of the piece because one of the violins went out of tune. The audience was confused, so the other violinist yelled out, "SHE NEEDS TO TUNE!" So did she forget to tune before they started or is she playing a broken violin? In the second piece the whole quartet jumped and cringed in the seats when the drums started. The male player, who I believe is the founder of the quartet, covered his ears the whole time during the drum section. I'm sure this looked great to everyone that he seemed to despise the music. He also knocked over his music stand during the piece. This all happened while they were onstage! I'm sorry but this is bizarre behavior from performance musicians, and I'm sure in anyone's opinion not professional. So I sat there thinking "is it really too late to go with someone else?!" Sadly, it was too late and I dreaded what would happen at my hubby's recital. Three days before his recital was scheduled Fine Arts Strings canceled on us! Seriously! This is the last thing required before graduation and guess what it keeps him from graduating. We were in a panic on how to fix it. I called Divisi Strings, they played the quartet originally at our wedding, and success! They were willing and available to play with three days notice! We hadn't checked with them originally because Fine Arts Quartet was giving us a "discount" because of the nature of the performance. Come to find Divisi Strings would do it for cheaper! Sadly the Dean of Music at my hubby's school would not approve the change with such short notice. So thanks Fine Arts Strings you have kept my hubby from graduating this semester. We are still waiting to find out from the Dean if the school is going to make us pay tuition again for when the recital is rescheduled, because the student is required to be enrolled. So they cost him his graduation and possibly another several thousand dollars in tuition! Divisi Strings is great and I love them and their true professionalism and talent. We should have never gone with anyone else. If you feel like you need to go with Fine Arts Strings make sure to demand they sign a contract or they could leave you high and dry as well!
