This was my girlfriend's first time trying Jamaican food and it was horrible.The chicken was Burnt and dry and the rice tested like it was made a week ago zero flavor. I wish I would've read the reviews prior to purchasing. Stay away! Very disappointing and highly misleading. Goat no taste chicken was just rubbed in jerk sauce and burnt smh I'm pissed. The owner was nice and polite but the food is still horrible. Expired can food sold on the store, I should have left when I walked in and found zero customers.. only people in there were his family members who probably don't eat that food either. I'm giving this place 1star because this is not Jamaican food . My husband and I spent $60 on 2 plates oxtail rice and peas plantain patties and a drink which wasn't bad they give you what you think is plenty food . There is no flavor the oxtail had all day and the rice and peas was not rice and peas not sure what they used. The Mac n cheese tasted like velveeta straight out the box and the patty had no meat. I absolutely would not recommend ! I want to note that the guy in front is very nice but I ended up throwing up after which had never happened so not sure how clean the back is . read more

The oxtails were good not great. They were tender but lack flavor. The brown stew and curry chicken both were dry and neither had the spice or sauce that tasted like traditional Jamaican dishes. The rice and peas were good. The plantain was the best thing on the plate. The cabbage was truly forgettable. I spent $60.00 and threw away more than half of the food. This is a fantastic family owned Jamaican restaurant that a friend took me to eat at this evening. The two of us were starving and ordered the chicken curry, oxtail, beef, and goat curry - four dishes, we definitely did not anticipate each would be such a huge portion. Each came with cabbage, seasoned rice, and, of course, plantains. Needless to say we were stuffed, but it was fun to try a few of the dishes. The dishes were authentic in taste, high quality, and very reasonably priced (it seems like they had great lunch specials on the menu too). My personal favorite dish was... well... I would say it was a tie between the oxtail and goat. Each dish was great, high quality, very tasty, and cooked to perfection. I hear the jerk chicken is fantastic as well, but they were sold out when we arrived for dinner. Next time, next time. First time visiting today, been working in Ocala off and on a couple of years, but it's just past the turn back to Hernando on Pine, so I never noticed it was there. I had the Jerk Chicken, Plantains, Cabbage, and Rice and Peas. The Jerk chicken was excellent, great flavor. I typically prefer it with a little more Scotch Bonnet heat, but I can't complain, it was really savory. The sides were really good as well and complimented the chicken perfectly. This is great Jamaican food right here in town. When my husband and I had a hankering for this style of food, we ended up in Tampa. I'm thrilled to have a place in town. We went here for lunch. They have specials each day and a set lunch menu. My husband ordered the jerk chicken and I ordered the curry chicken. Both came with 2 sides. Delicious! Worst "Jamaican food" I've ever experienced. This is truly false advertising due to the cooks not being of Jamaican decent. My wife and I had the most wonderful eating experience at Tropical Delight 1 today. We have loved Jerk Chicken and other Jamaican food ever since our honeymoon in Jamaica 30 years ago. We moved to Ocala a year ago and hadn't found any Jamaican restaurants till a coworker told us about Tropical Delight. She had said it was the best Jerk Chicken in Ocala so we had to check it out. Driving through Ocala my boyfriend and I happened to spot Tropical Delight and decided to stop and grab some food. Ohhh man, were we glad we did. Everything was great, the staff was very friendly and attentive, they had a cute shop (with a surprising variety of things), and the bathrooms were clean. I ordered the ox tail and it was so beautifully spiced and the meat was just falling and off! My boyfriend was suggested the jerk chicken and it too was wonderful! Finally found an authentic Jamaican restaurant in Ocala and I am very pleased with the traditional menu. The oxtail, cabbage, rice and peas were delicious. We also had the brown stew chunks as my husband is a vegan, it was also delicious. My next order will be one of the fish dishes. I suggest calling ahead to enjoy your meal even sooner. The food used to be good. But I went yesterday and I was disappointed...but I shouldn't have been disappointed because lately other customers have been giving poor reviews. I gave Tropical Delight the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. I think that they are serving old food! I came in around 1pm so the food should have been fresh. Instead, the chicken was chewy, a sure sign of re-heating and the rice and peas looked old and was burnt! They actually scraped the rice from the bottom of the pot - I know because I got scraped lumps of burnt rice! The plantains were cut in big chunks and not cooked enough to caramelize on the outside. The curry chicken seemed more like baked chicken seasoned with curry powder rather that what we know to be for real curry chicken. The cabbage was salty. It seems that they season it with some type of seasoning that they think is good (the salty taste didn't come from just salt) and they just poured it in with no regard to taste. The vegetable Pattie's aren't good. They taste more like pot pie (and the inside looks like pot pie ) rather than vegetable patties. The meat Pattie's are good. What's unfortunate is that I bought this as a take out order, so I didn't know how bad this food was until I got home. Since I live more than 30 minutes away, I wasn't going back to get my money back. They got me this time, but they are officially off my list. We tried a bunch of veggie dishes but the standout was the Steamed Cabbage. Everything was really good - the veggie patties, rice and peas, roti was delish. My only complaint is they were out of a lot of their veggie offerings so I guess I'd recommend calling first before ordering thru Bite Squad or Door Dash. We tried the goat curry, beef brown stew, ox tails, brown chicken along with the cabbage and plantains. This place is the absolute WORST!! Ordered delivery from GrubHub...received only 5% of my order!! I order dinners for 4 people and sides...received 1 dinner (which was wrong)!! Delivery driver informed me that restaurant stated they called to inform me of missing items...which they DID NOT!! If they had called to inform me of missing items, I would have canceled order and proceeded to order from elsewhere considering I was ordering for 4 and they sent me 1 incorrect order!!
