I've never had a massage before, but I saw a Groupon for this place and decided to give it a shot. I called and left a message about scheduling an appointment and was called back the next day. I scheduled an appointment for 11:00am on Saturday morning. I showed up at 10:45, to do some paperwork. Very tough to find the entrance, and I was directed to it by 2 smokers on a bench. I went downstairs to find a pretty run down space being used. It was clean, but it was damp and didn't look very inviting. I met Tina, and she was very nice. I don't have anything to compare the massage to, but it seemed very nice, and Tina had a great bedside manner. When I was finished I looked at the clock to see that it was almost 12:30. I also received a coupon for my next visit for a portion off. at the end of the day, you're not paying for a fancy office, or expensive candy at the front door. Like many other reviewers, I bought a groupon for a 90 minute massage. I scheduled my appointment online, received email confirmation that my appointment was set. I took time off of work, due to the rather limited availability. I got there for my 5pm appointment and tried every door. The were all locked. I called but the number was disconnected. I called another number also listed online...again disconnected. Needless to say, I did not get a massage. I'm thinking that they must have gone out of business. And seeing other reviews on here, perhaps that was for the best. Do not buy a groupon. This place doesn't have a working phone number and doesn't show for appointments. 6-27-13 Should have read the reviews here before purchasing and going to Trispa, Besides difficult to find and door open in the basement that had a basement smell( now I know why the door is left open). I have been to many massage spa's in my life but this was that absolute worst I ever had. Not friendly , spend 15 minutes on my calf muscle with ONE HAND and never had any issues with my calf muscle. I got off the table and left 15 minutes into my 1 handed massage. Driving away I received a call from owner on my cell phone wanting to know why I left early and wanted me to reschedule with her. I told her of my massage experience with her employee. Nice offer but declined, would never to ever go back here ,too many other quality massage spa's to be wasting your time and money here. I only went to this place because I received an amazon local gift. The first impression was as everyone says, the entrance is hard to find. This is not a "spa" as listed, it's a office suite with some dingy furniture and massage tables and candles. I didn't realize the lotion that would be used was menthol or what that really meant.. Aka icy hot. It felt great while I had the stones on my back, but as soon as they were off I was freezing! I finally got the nerve to ask if the heat count be turned on, and the masseuse decided to tell me there was a heating pad! Why was it not on the whole time!? The woman used way too much pressure for a relaxing massage and finally I had to ask for her to use less pressure since I wasn't getting a deep tissue massage. I can't believe how bad the reviews for this place are. Without exaggeration, this was the best massage I've ever had in my life. In terms of full disclosure - it didn't start well. I couldn't find the spa, as it's in a large building with several other businesses and only a very small sign to tell you where it is. There was no one to greet me when I walked in - and yes, it is in a dingy sort of basement. I had to shout 'hello' a couple of times and then eventually resorted to knocking before the therapist came out to greet me. I definitely had my doubts, especially since my appointment started 45-minutes late. I stared at my Groupon wondering why I had bothered. But the therapist made up for it. My one-hour appointment ran 2 hrs and ten minutes. I had told her that I suffered from chronic neck pain and have for as long as I could remember.... well, she worked the knots in my neck and shoulders out completely. I walked away feeling better than I have in years. I could have cried, I was so happy and felt so good. I don't think the suction cup things actually helped, but it's not as if she just stuck them on my back and walked away. While they were on, she worked on my arms and legs. No, it wasn't the nicest looking spa I've ever been to, and the massage bed wasn't the most comfortable I've ever experienced, but I cannot say enough about how good I felt when I left. Not a happy camper.. like the another commenter I was compelled to sign up for an account to write a review. Hopefully my review does NOT get filtered or deleted. Bought a groupon about a year ago and only recently used it. It was procrastination combined with not having to drive through the area for work anymore, that took me so long to use it. I tried to make a booking online but there were no available appointments before my groupon expired (a week and a half before). I called them and left a message. She got back to me the next day, and gave me 2 possible spots. Both did not fit into my schedule. When I asked if there was any other date, and she got very short with me saying she was already accomodating me by giving me a day past the expiry date and said any later, I will have to pay the difference for a regular massage. She also mentioned that she won't be getting paid by groupon like it was my fault, calling me 'honey' to add to insult. So I just went with the day she "accomdated" me with though I had to make a lot of changes to my schedule. I have met with this situation with another massage place before and they were willing to arrange a suitable day well past the expiration date as long as you call and arrange for an appointment before this date. I called the groupon office to make sure I wasn't making this up in my head and they comfirmed what I had thought. The guy I spoke to at groupon said he'll call trispa to make sure they are redeeming groupons properly. I gave it a few days and tried again to change my appointment to a better time. It was the same story. This time saying that she could have given me a later date if I had given her the groupon number before. My fault again. I told her I could have easily done that had she asked for it. She then said her technician I spoke to the first time probably didn't know. I was clearly speaking to the same person because she was calling me honey again and she was now blaming her technician for her own mistake. I even told her about my call with groupon. She didnt care and reiterated the spiel about not getting paid by groupon. I gave up talking to this woman and just made the changes to my schedule. I didn't have much trouble finding the place. Maybe because I accidentally parked at kfc and saw it right there. The spa was kind of dingy and in a basement. The decor was cheap-looking and not very professional. The sheets on the massage table looked like grandma's floral curtain sheers and with a leopard print fleece blanket over the top to boot. The massage itself was not bad. I've had better but the technician did work out some knots in my back. However, she used a massage oil that had menthol or some cooling agent in it similar to icy hot. It started off alright when she was just working on my legs but by the end of the 90 mins my body was on fire!! Brings new meaning to the song 'this girl is on fire'. When I was trying to tip my masseuse, I asked her if she could break a 20. She gave me a 10 and two 5's, of which I let her keep half. When I got back from the bathroom she said she gave me back too much money. O_o I don't know whether it was an attempt to garner a larger tip or if she was truely confused. I had to explain the transaction to her a couple of times and she still didnt quite get it. She was so confused she got me doubting what went down on my drive to work... First I will say that the place is not much to look at. But I was expecting much worse. I bought the massage off groupon and then came acrossed the bad reviews on Yelp so I was worried! I almost didn't make the appointment but I am satisfied that I did. I never called the place, I did my appointment online and had no problems. I did have to wait a month between purchase and booking since the online booking didn't seem to have any openings till that time. The people are friendly enough though I doubt they are experienced business owners based on the reviews they are getting. I would not be surprised if they did not graduate at the top of their class in licensing nor that the school they attended was a top place to go since they seem to lack an attention to detail. First impressions of this place and the staff could cause worry to some but I kept an open mind. I only live a few minutes away from the place but left with plenty of time to find the place which is not easy to find but the other reviews warned me of this so I knew to look behind and that it was located in the basement of this business park building. I could see this place being off putting to those that expect a really nice spa and those that might be visiting the building on grey days or evenings. It is nothing fancy. The office suite is adjacent to the KFC and the way to get to the rear of the building is NOT welcoming. First impression of the place is exactly as those that were disappointed stated. It has that cheap industrial carpeting throughout, drop tile ceilings and the building is old. The walls seem like they have a fresh coat of paint but the place is rather dark. It is clear the owner is not a decorator but there is an attempt to spa up the reception area with cheap art, bamboo plants and a slip covered sofa. All that aside, what do you need to look at when you have your eyes closed and are face down on the massage table. The place isn't exactly soundproof you can hear the phone ringing and sometimes other business noises, walking above and the toilet flushing. However it is not horrible and did not lessen the experience. Bottomline- the therapist gave me a good massage. I received the full 90 minutes and with groupon it was a bargain. This is not an insult but she had rough man-like strong hands and ham hock sized fore arms which actually felt very good. She frequently used her full arm and elbow to work out my extremely knotted back. She was thorough and the pressure was fine. I typically like a firmer pressure but she didn't ask and I thought her pressure was very relaxing. She spent alot of attention on my legs and my back. There were a few areas which I felt as if her massaging was more like a good application of someone putting on sunscreen but the full arm kneading of my back more than made up for the little time that was spent on my arms. I also liked that she was not chatty but did tell you what she was doing as she was moving from area to area. Things that were different here than other places was that they used this oil which had alcohol in it and either a menthol or eucalyptus base. Recently shaved areas felt a brief and mild sting followed by a cooling effect of the oil. I left smelling like a cough drop but it was a hot day and the cooling remnants actually felt really nice in the heat. Another odd thing I noticed was She used paper towels to wipe off excess oils on my back which I felt was weird but I did not have to worry that any remaining oil would get on my clothes. The therapist used these weird suction things on my back which could cause hickeys if I were more delicate so I would probably suggest she not use them next time but at the end of the massage I was relaxed and felt I had a full work-over. This was the WORST massage I have ever received. Not only did they never call me back after numerous voicemails when I needed to reschedule, the woman was hurting me throughout the massage. I put "light pressure" on my intake form and she told me several times she was doing deep tissue even when I told her she was hurting me. I also decided to try this place because I saw them on Groupon and I've had great luck with massage deals in the past. Like others have mentioned, this place is in a super sketchy location and is pretty run-down. It's a converted basement apartment I think (definitely NOT a spa). I tried to keep an open mind, though. When I arrived Trina gave me a standard medical history form to fill out, then disappeared into another room to chat with the other therapist in there. Once I was done filling out the form, I waited a few minutes but she didn't return, so I went and knocked on the door. I guess she said "Comin'!" but I thought she said "Come in," so I cracked the door cautiously and said I was done with the paperwork. Now I don't know what they were doing in there but you would have thought I walked in on them naked in the bath. She scolded me several times for walking into an "off-limits" area (their supply closet) and treated me like a misbehaving child, it was very insulting! Talk about terrible customer service. The massage itself was actually quite good, but not worth the hassle of dealing with this place, which makes it even more disappointing. The sheets on the massage table were rough, threadbare, and definitely did not smell clean. As soon as I laid down I knew I wouldn't be coming back here no matter how good the massage was. She talked the entire time, complaining about how her neck hurt, and I'm pretty sure she was using the same suction cups on herself while she was using them on me for the massage... barf. I don't even like those things to begin with, and that's just disgusting. After the massage *she* walked in on *me* changing (without knocking) to hand me a couple of paper towels to wipe the oil off with. As I was leaving she gave me a card for $50 for a 60 or 90 minute massage. As great a deal as that is, I have absolutely no desire to go back there. Made an appointment .. Could not make it .. Got a call from them . They want to pay additional 25 dollars as a fee for not showing up ... This was by far the worst massage I have ever had. It started with me waiting in the dirty waiting room for someone to come great me. A woman opened a door 15 minutes after my appointment was supposed to begin, and she told me that she woudl be another few minutes. It took another 15 minutes for her to come out, and by the time I got into the gross, dirty room, I was beginning my massage 45 minutes after the scheduled time. As she began, I told her a like a lot of pressure. (I had asked to be upgraded to a deep tissue) She had agreed and told me it would be an additional $20. She should have never agreed because she clearly did not know how to give a deep tissue massage, nor did she even know the basic anatomy of muscles. The massage was feeling very weird and her hands were not smooth. When I finally caught a glimpse, the therapist was wearing plastic gloves. It felt so awful on my body. I tried to salvage as much as possible from this and guide her to areas of my back, neck, and shoulders that were bothering me. She was absolutely clueless. I actually had her stop early, and did not even complete my 90 minutes. It was the worst massage experience of my life!! The massage itself was underwhelming: not very relaxing, uncomfortable at times (but not in the good, "working it out" kind of way), and just...not good. 4. My "hour long" massage lasted 45 minutes, which of course I didn't realize until my clothes were back on and I checked my phone. 5. And the kicker, which has NEVER happened to me before after a massage: the next day, my back and neck started to HURT! I went in with no pain, and came out worse off then when I went in. I bought the groupon for my husband. I used their online booking system to make the appointment and she never have appointments beyond the current month. if you want to book for next month, you have to wait for her to open up the slots. They reminded him multiple times upon arrival that he NEEDS to tip 20% of face value of the massage. After the massage was finished, they asked him where is the tip. He left the tip on the massaging table and they told him to wait while she checks the tip because a lot of people dont know what 20% is. Then why dont they just tell you how much to tip if they are so concerned with it. Its extremely rude to ask about the tip multiple times. He said the massage wasnt even that good. Where should I start.... I bought a groupon for a 90 minute deep tissue massage because I am always willing to try out new places. I called the "spa" to book an appointment and the woman was somehwat short with me and told me to book it through their website. Ok, fair enough. I found their website and booked the massage. The booking system never asked me what type of massage I was getting so I wasnt sure how the therapist would know to block off 90 minutes. I called the "spa" to confirm my appointment and no one answered so I left a voicemail. The message said someone would get back to me the next business day. A week went by and I never received a response. I decided to call back and leave another message and still, no response. A few days later I called again and left somewhat of an angry message. Surprise, someone called me right back and confirmed my appointment. The day of the appointment I arrived at 247 Washington Street. I looked all around the building and asked 4 people if they knew the place and they said no. I went into the salon out front and they told me to go around to the rear of the building. I walked to the rear and I couldnt see any signs for a business. I walked back out front and noticed it said "in rear" next to the Trispa sign. I tried one door and there was no luck. I tried calling the "spa" 4 times, but of course no one answered. I had people trying to help me and they couldnt find the place either. Finally, I noticed a door that was slightly ajar. I opened it and I could see there was a woman down the stairs in the basement. I yelled "do you know where Trispa is". She said "yes, this is it". I told her how difficult it was to find the place and she just laughed it off. I am now 10 minutes late to my appt because their location is impossible to find and no one answers the phone. The massage itself was ok. The place is pretty dingy and they claim to give you aromatherapy, but it is to cover the dingy basement smell. The thing that really ticked me off is that she only gave me a 75 minute massage because I was late. This place is a sorry excuse for a business, if you can even find it. I would also like to note that I opened a yelp account today so I could write this review. That is how compelled I was. UPDATE: A woman named Alisha A wrote me a very nasty note on yelp. Ok I would have posted this much sooner, but the business was not on yelp yet. I just saw it come up on groupon again with 300 sold and wanted to contribute my opinion of the place, because I think it is extremely important to know up front. I am very open minded when it comes to massages because I usually go to the massage school in Newton (Cortiva) and pay $35 for a hit or miss massage from a student. Further I don't understand why some of the review got filtered out when their descriptions are 100% accurate. So I brought a 3 massage groupon for $120 back in January or February. I had my first Massage in February. My boyfriend and I both bought the deal and booked it together. We had the same reaction when we went to the place "holy sketchy basement". This is not a spa but a basement unit with old carpets and drop ceilings. Still I tried to keep and open mind since I had already paid for the deal. During our massage there was a church in the room next door singing extremely loud in another language the whole time (I couldn't make this up if I wanted to!) I could not focus at all. She said they weren't suppose to be there and they were moving next week. Further the "hot stone massage" was non existent. She kept referring to trigger point techniques and digging into my back. needless to say it was not very comfortable. On the positive side my boyfriend was massaged by a guy (who does not work there apparently he just helps her from time to time) and loved it. Then again he can tune anything out and sleep through a tornado. Sooo against my better judgment I booked a second one. I know, I know, what was I thinking. I was thinking I paid $120 I mind as well give it a second try. The second time the church was still there and the massage was so much worse. Do..not..go here. I booked a 90 min massage from Groupon and got a 2 hr torture session. First off it is an old, poorly decorated/kept basement business in the back of the plaza. Part of a "spa" experience is the ambiance and this place had none. The massage bed looked like it had old sheets on it and the whole room was just dingy! So my massage started out with the person putting suction cups on my back that would supposedly help loosen the knots I had...no, basically this just killed time and the first half hour of my 90 mins. Then she proceeded to dig and shred and beat the heck out of my back and shoulder muscles to the point where I actually yelped in pain! Now don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for a firm massage-usually the pressure is never deep enough, but this was ridiculous! And the more I hinted that I hated what she was doing and just wanted a regular old feel good massage, the more she would explain that she does this for all her customers because she cares and wants to help improve the condition of my back. This went on for 2 hrs and normally a 2 hr massage would be a glorious thing, but I just kept praying for it to end! Long story short, I woke up this morning with red hickeys all over my back and I can't move. I am in so much pain that I can't sit back in my chair!! Sure it was a bit hard to locate initially, and the signage should be addressed, but I like the idea that the location is private. The business is relatively young, but has loads of potential, Ambience is nice, but the next day when I went to work, I was told I looked glowing and rested. From booking an appointment, receiving a message to confirm my appointment (she said the wrong date and never called me back to confirm the correct date), to finding the place...they aren't off to a good first impression. Well, my massage started out ok. She asked me what my trouble spots were but didn't spend any more time on those spots. About 60min into the 90 min massage, I turned on my back and this therapist literally, held my head for 20minutes! I was getting so frustrated that she wasn't doing any kind of massage. I asked her if we were done so I can get out of there, and she said, "no, 10 more minutes. I know, 90min massage is long. I can stretch your arms." Ugh...never again. Not only was this a HORRIBLE massage, it was such a weird experience. I walked into the not-so-relaxing basement and there was no one there...after 5 minutes of saying "hello" the owner/masseuse came out if the bathroom...and thought it was okay to talk about her stomach problems. Gross! Next she asked for the groupon..clearly there is no service in her dungeon so I asked to use the computer to pull it up. She said customers aren't allowed. I said okay, we'll then if you want to walk with me to my car,you can redeem it where there is service. She agreed to let me redeem on computer. Finally the massage. Unfortunately I made the mistake if telling her that I was a therapist...yup, my relaxing hour became a therapy session for her. She also never turned me over to massage my front. So weird. This is by far the best massage (chronic pain massage) i ever had. My therapist name was Trina. Her therapy education specialized in chronic pain management so she has a good understanding on working out stubborn kinks. She was recommended to me by another massage therapist in Stoughton who was working on me and after our session she said to me, "...in all honesty, i hate to lose a client, but judging from our session and the chronic pain i have had for a while, she feels that it would only be fair to recommend this Lady who has also worked on her and helped her with some pain she had. I have had chronic pain in my neck for many years. I even had about 8 chiropractor sessions, from apparently one of the best chiropractors in town. This worked out great for as long as i was going and getting my neck cracked/adjusted, but when i stopped, it felt worse than before. I have in addition tried "high-end" acupressure Chinese therapy in Waltham, MA. It was too expensive to continue ($120 per 80 minute session), so in all fairness i have no idea if it would have worked as it ought to after the recommended 12 sessions, but i only did several. After the message i felt a whole lot better than i have ever felt in years, or even after a massage or chiropractor visit. I can already tell that perhaps i may need one or two more sessions at the most to completely get rid of the tension that i have built over many years of multitasking. The aesthetics of this place are not the best and perhaps not the most comfy massage table as you might but honestly is sufficient for the purpose...not to mention I have been to places that have both and didn't help me out half as much as this place did. The place is clean, but they don't have the "spa like look" ... So my recommendation is, if looks will really determine how you feel about the massage then you might be a bit disappointed, and when i a say "a bit" its because the massage and price are soooo worth it. However if you are looking to relax from a GREAT massage and can overlook the aesthetics then by all means request for Trina. I did ask the woman what it was. She told me it contained the biofreeze spray substance that doctors use. I had experience with it before while getting a piercing done. It works well when targeting a specific area, but I didn't like like it being slathered on my whole body especially in a already kind of dank and chilly basement atmosphere. Other than the location of the place and the oil they used, they do know their stuff. The massage therapist was very thorough making sure that the pressure was right for me and pointing out and focusing on the trouble areas of my muscles. For the price, it was worth the 90 minutes. And if I had known I wouldn't like the biofreeze stuff, I would have asked them not to use it on me and I'm sure they would have accommodated. read more

I would not recommend this place to ANYONE!!! I didn't even visit the spa and had a horrible experience. I called to make an appt for a massage and everything went well over the phone. Then a week later, I received a phone call from them asking if I'd be able to reschedule due to a scheduling problem (which I later found out was that they booked someone over my appt, and wanted me to change my time). I was at work at the time and told them I'd call them back, but when I did call them back later that day, the receptionist was so rude to me and HUNG UP on me!!!! (I work for a salon but I thought it was common knowledge to be kind and courteous towards clients, especially first time clients). Anyway, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and called back saying that I think we had got disconnected but that I'd like to speak with the owner to sort out the problem. Over the course of the following week, the owner and I played phone tag but once I did get her on the phone, she was completely rude to me as well. I finally told her that I was not interested in coming in anymore and to just cancel my appt because it shouldn't be THIS HARD to make an appt for something that's supposed to be relaxing. AND even after I said to cancel the appt, she kept me on the phone for a good 10 mins more trying to convince me that I didn't need to do that, even after I pointed out all the problems I had had with them without even visiting them. Oh, and to add to the unprofessional demeanor of this spa, each time I called, the person answering the phone would just say "hello"....as if i were calling a person phone line and then gave me an attitude when I asked if I had reached Trispa. This place is disgusting, very difficult to find. Basically an old dirty basement. Not worth the deal. The owner is extremely rude and unprofessional. No one answers the phone or returns calls. Would let my worst enemy get a massage here. read more

First impression of this place is horrible....they messed up my appt time twice,its in a very unattractive spa with old interiors,the message cream is actually bio-freeze which is like Bengay...sheet to lay on looked dirty and definetly not relaxing..the women giving the massage did well at taking out my knots but was very painful while massaging..I would not recommend this spa. read more

I cannot believe the negative comments regarding Trispa. I had such a great experience with both massages, that I decided to come on to this site to write a great review. I then read some of the reviews and was shocked. I bought my second Groupon after having a fabulous massage approximately 8 months ago at which time I had a 90 minute appointment. Trina's next appointment cancelled which I did not know at the time. I enjoyed my massage immensely. When she was finished, I looked at the clock and was shocked that she had worked on me for almost 3 hours and did not charge me. Today I had an appointment because my back has been bothering me. I did not tell her what part of my body was giving me trouble, but she truly zeroed in on my problem spots and more. She gave me an amazing 90 minute massage. Before I left, I not only booked another 90 minutes in a month, but I booked a massage for my daughter when she comes home for Thanksgiving. True, the entrance to this "Spa" is nothing to brag about, not where you would expect a "SPA" to be located. It is clean and that is all I care about. The room was very pleasant and the music relaxing. If you are looking for a glamorous place, this is not the place for you, go to Newbury Street. If you want a person who knows the body and knows how to get the knots out, Trina is a great Massage Therapist. Close your eyes and stop worry about the small stuff. Buyer beware! I bought two Groupons for Trispa and callled to make the appointments, the person on the phone was inept and then when her copmuter froze, told me to call back (did not offer to call me back). I did call back and told her I wanted to make the appointments and she told me " I'm busy helping someone else, you can make the appointment on line". YIKES! I made the appointments on line (but was unable to get two appointments together so I followed up with a phone call and left a maessage asking for someone to call me back. Never heard a word! Yesterday (my appoinemtnets were for today) I went onto their website to find out more information or another phone number and 1 phone number says the voice mail is full and then hangs up and the other one is a private cell phone number that says nothing about the business. I also checkefd these YELP reviews and was very concerned about sending my 20 year old son and my husband to a basement for a massage as well as the website saying they were going to be closed fo rhte next six months! Fianlly I called Groupon and they were wonderful and gave me a credit for the full purchase price of the two groupons. so the kicker is that today, the day of the appointments, someone from Trispa has called my work twice (said that someone called from here, it was me yesterday) but that she doesnt have time to listen to messages so she didn't know who she was looking for and then called my cell twice asking if I wanted to move my appointments closer together, I informed her that I was interested 3 weeks ago but had never heard from anyone and was cancelling both appointments. Wow...I wish I had read Lynn's review before I sent my husband there! I got him a gift certificate via Groupon and what a mistake that was. He,too, found the appointment taker rude and unprofessional. It was extremely difficult to locate. I dropped off my husband and he walked around the building a couple of times before a woman in scrubs coming back from a smoke break asked if he was there for a massage. When I picked him up, he was so stressed that he needed a another (real) massage!! He said the place was disgusting, with stains on the carpet and anilmal print sheets (??). It was supposed to be a deep-tissue massage but despite his insistence that she knead harder, she barely touched him. He gave up and said he just wanted a head massage. She proceeded to cradle his head for the next ten minutes! Plus he was covered in disgusting oil that stained his clothes. I seriously think this place is a prostitution parlor. i went here for a Massage i had a deep tissue Massage i must say they do a great job here came in with knots left out feeling great with no knots at all so i will be going back i would recommend this place to anyone read more
