    I wanted to update my review to say that Tripler still sucks. This time I wasn't making an appointment, I was trying to get ahold of the doctors office, and four times, FOUR, I had to call back because they either directed me to the wrong person, told me twice they were gonna transfer me, and hung up right away, and the last one I got directed to the pharmacy. Sooo, asking for a friend who the hell runs the communications line? Bc it still seems like you guys don't know what you're doing or how to direct calls. How can it be five times of sending me to the wrong department? I'm going to keep saying this, Tripler you guys suck! I don't know how you guys are still running, even the quality of care sucks. I have been getting the run arounds on the phone, like whyyyyy!!!! I pretty much know the music and know what the prompter will say So irritating!!! my client needs his doctor and we can't even get ahold of him because Tripler has such a complex phone system. You guys are pretty much the 007 of all hospitals! Do better.

    18 November 2020 Tripler Orthopedics and Podiatry (Mountainside) Covid precautions: There is a Service Member at a guard desk asking covid-related questions and ensuring hospital visitors are wearing a mask. Inside, everyone is seen wearing a mask and hand sanitizers are at the desks (I only noticed this at the clinics I passed). If you have to go toTripler Orthopedics and Podiatry clinic, enter through the ER (you will already be on the 3rd floor there so just take the elevator near Radiology to the 4th floor). Once in the elevator, select 4C, *NOT* 4M. When you get off the elevator, take the stairs on your right and proceed down the hallway to the LEFT. Take a right at the end of the hallway and you should run right into the Orthopedics & Podiatry clinic waiting area. After checking in, I was given an information sheet to fill out my medication list and factors surrounding the reason for my visit (medical history). Soon after I was done completing the forms, a nurse called my name and escorted me to the exam room. There, I waited approximately 5 more minutes before the doctor knocked on the door and came in. David R. Peterson, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon came in, introduced himself, and asked a few questions related to my injury. His questions were very pointed to get a better understanding of the onset and duration of my condition and he was very thorough in his evaluation and explanation of my condition based on the MRI results (I completed an MRI a few days earlier). I guess he is new or a "junior" doctor because he said he would consult with the other doctor then return. When he returned to the room, Ian Mullikin, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon was with him. (Both are identified by their labeled lab coat and ID badge). Doctor Mullikin did his own examination then explained my condition in greater detail. He explained my treatment options, gave his recommendations, then gave me the option to select what I wanted to have done at that time. Once I made my decision, they both stepped out to prepare the items they needed for treatment. The return with the items (steroid injection, numbing spray, sani wipes,  et cetera). Both doctors put on new/clean gloves, cleaned the area being treated, and explained the process as they were going through the steps. It was fairly painless and easy but, Doctor Mullikin explained that I will likely feel some discomfort one the numbing agent wears off. That was basically the end of the appointment. He explained that my file was open so if I was having further issues or needed to see him again, I could simply call to schedule an appointment.  Overall, my experience at the clinic was good and if I have to go back again, I would definitely want Doctors Peterson and Mullikin.

    10/06/21 (Tripler Army Hospital) Hooyah!! They even offered my wife a free "Acupuncture" while she was pregnant.

    Nurses here think they are doctors especially the ones in the emergency room not very busy yet move very slow and carless

My doctor was kind and empathetic throughout the whole process. I felt no pain during the fast, less than 51-minute visit, even after receiving two stitches. The numbing spray helped ease the pain of the shot. It wasn't until after the procedure that I felt immense pain. I did not receive a pamphlet like I usually do after hospital visits, nor did I receive instructions on how to care for myself. An hour later, the pain hit me like a tidal wave. It was excruciating. I'm glad Kaiser has an app where we can speak to our PCP right away. If we can't reach them, we can call urgent care and get a callback with advice. The doctor called the pharmacy to ensure I had pain medicine and mouthwash. My surgeon called the next morning to check on me, which I appreciated. However, my stitches came undone the next day. I went to the ER in Wahiawa. It took an hour to be admitted, and once seen, they quickly decided not to do anything since it was clotted. I explained I have a hard time healing, but they said tongues heal quickly and didn't want to mess with that. They told me to follow up with my surgeon if needed. Two days passed, and I seemed fine. I barely talked or ate to allow healing. Monday passed with light talking. Tuesday I talked more, and it hurt less. Then Wednesday at 7 a.m., I woke up choking on blood. My tongue was dripping like a faucet. Because of my experience in Wahiawa, I stayed home and tried to manage it. It took 5 hours for the bleeding to stop. I slept again and woke up choking on blood around 4 p.m. That's when I knew home care wasn't enough. I didn't want to return to Wahiawa, so I went to the location where my surgery was done. I'm happy to say the care there made me feel at ease. They didn't make me feel like a burden. I was spitting blood from the parking lot to the ER and into my room. After receiving five stitches, I was sent home. A few hours later, I coughed and started bleeding again, like a sprinkler so I was brought back to the ER. The night team was kind and patient. The doctor prepared to stitch again but saw clotting and decided not to. Another team considered cauterizing, which I would have preferred, but also chose not to due to clotting. I slept through most of the night with nurses checking in. One nurse told me my oxygen levels dropped while sleeping due to an obstruction. The most stressful part was using my call light multiple times with no response. Around 1 p.m., my doctor asked if I had eaten. I said no because no one had come by. The nurse later offered crackers but never brought them and told me to drink water. It was discouraging to see staff walk by or enter for supplies while my call light was on. When I spoke up, I was told to wait or that my nurse would come. I eventually insisted I needed the restroom but wasn't allowed, likely due to fall risk, until I was moved to my room. I asked a nurse about the call light, and she kindly said, thank you for your patience, the ER is a zoo right now. I understand healthcare is not easy. I used to be a CNA and come from a family in healthcare, so I try to be understanding. My issue is that I bite my tongue at night, wake up choking, and don't heal easily. We suspect sleep apnea, but it is not confirmed. I asked to stay overnight due to the trauma, and I am grateful I was moved for observation. Special thanks to my nurse Liezel. She was amazing, attentive, proactive, and kind. She made sure I was comfortable, brought me a fan, gave me extra pillows, checked on me often, and made sure I finally ate after over 24 hours without food. She even ordered dinner. I am on a clear liquid diet, and it is not bad. I appreciate the room service options. At times, it felt like a mini hotel with iced water, sanitizer, tissues, and validated parking for visitors. Also, my nurse speaks Visaya like me, which was such a comforting surprise. Overall, this experience has been a roller coaster, but the great care I received outweighs the negative moments. Praying for a better night with no more bleeding. Thank you, Kaiser team.

Hr #3 bus will drop you off one block away in case you don't have a car. The facility is smaller than the Honolulu clinic and the reception/cashier is right in the middle of the main floor as you enter. Had a really great experience with a skilled occupational therapist (Cara) who had me put my hand into a small vat of melted wax before wrapping it up and massaging it. I just had to ask where the wick was supposed to go. Was shown stretching exercises and she provided me with both a hard copy and access to the online "active" version. Something I noticed was missing here is a food/beverage cart outside the facility just like at the Honolulu & Moanalua locations. I asked the receptionist where I could get coffee and she referred me to the bodega attached to the gas station across the street. They only sell cold drinks and candy. Could I suggest Kaiser invest in looking into having a coffee kiosk for a few hours a day? I'm sure the patients and staff would be grateful.

Thankfully, my milk came in after 4 days, but we had to work with baby to learn how to nurse instead of just drinking from a bottle. She still does a mixture of the two, but the main thing they helped with is letting me know that we were doing all of the right things but some babies just don't want to nurse or prefer bottles and that's ok as long as they're still getting the nutrition. They were very supportive in teaching me the different feeding holds and helping me to teach her to latch with shields and syringes. Plenty of parking with a $3 flat rate. I would recommend these services to every new mother to learn how to feed your baby!

I'm writing this as I've been lying down for the past hour in the waiting room. I've been here since 9:45 am and it's currently 1:30 pm. I came in because my lower back is in immense pain and I can barely walk or stand up straight. All I've done was watch kids and old folks come in and get helped. I'll revisit this after the actual care.

    The type of care I have received at Tripler is terrible. I am surprised they don't get lawsuits…read moreevery month. They only prioritize kids. Every other department is poor in education for nurses and attention. I have went into the emergency room about a dozen times while stationed here as active duty and always put last of the list during ER visits. During these visits, even after having post op symptoms I am typically dismissed and given medicines to "numb the problem". To be quite frank I don't want to numb anything, I want them to do their job and solve the issues they can. My wife worked for there medical maintenance department and also saw the ugly of Tripler. She saw that they had instruments in calibrated for years out of preventative maintenance period. Which means ALL of those instruments read results wrong. They have the worst attitudes for nurses and are always on their phones. They don't even care. The charge nurses are even worse. Wrong results for medical screenings and worst attitudes. I've heard people would rather not go to a hospital than put up with this bs.

My grandpa's room was always kept clean, organized, and comfortable. It gave our family peace of mind knowing he was in a safe, well-maintained environment where every detail mattered. The care team consistently checked in on him, ensured he was comfortable, and always communicated with us with patience and understanding. I want to give special recognition to Scott, the transporter, whose kindness consistently went above and beyond. He was always so helpful, patient, and respectful. Whether it was assisting with transportation or simply offering a friendly interaction, his support made a meaningful difference. Another person who deserves immense appreciation is Karen from the Business Office. She was a tremendous help to my grandmother throughout the entire experience. Karen was always kind, caring, and treating my grandma with genuine compassion. She made challenging days easier with her warmth and professionalism. Even though my grandpa has since passed away, we take comfort in knowing that during his time here, he received the best care possible. The staff's hard work, patience, and time did not go unnoticed and will always be remembered with appreciation. We wholeheartedly recommend this care home to any family seeking a supportive, compassionate, and well-run environment for their loved one.     My first impression walking in was that this was a facility with proper staffing and it would be a…read moresafe place. Especially since they have alot of elderly patients. Many people struggle with care and affordable facilities, unfortunately the result of that could come at a bigger cost. My dad was at Avalon for a few weeks for rehab, Well, needless to say my dad got scabies while he was there, a uti, an infection in his spine and an abscess in his hip when he was discharged from there the same day he ended up in the ER and diagnosed. We have papers to prove the timeline These infections are all contributing factors to why he cannot walk. Further more the Avalon social worker on site refused to give a patient assessment for my Dad prior to his departure . The reason we were given is "Because he is no longer going to be in their care as of Sunday" even tho we asked for the assessment way before Sunday while he was under their care while they were getting paid by insurance.. but once they heard the payments would end on Sunday they wouldn't do it. Well, the picture is clear it was because Avalon didn't want anyone to know his condition upon release because that was not his condition upon arrival. also. When I visited my dad I noticed he had lost more weight, 10Lbs quick in a week, we immediately took action and started sending him a meal everyday to ensure he was actually eating because although Avalon was providing food daily my dad wasn't eating all his food and his rehab nurse was so happy when I bought him food one day while He was doing rehab..this man literally had tears in his eyes that's how concerned this nurse was for my dad. we sent the food purely to ensure dad would eat his food (a shake and a fish sand which) his favorite meal... once a Day..... out of our own pockets. the result was the dietician called me up while I was at work upset that I sent my Dad food stating that they are feeding him, it's like these people are so caught up in their own egos and emotions that they don't even care about the people that are there who need help. Nobody said they weren't feeding him.. If you are an Avalon employee and you feel the need to withhold Help from someone in need because your emotions you should quit today. The job you signed up for is not for you. And if you are looking for a place for your loved one and this place was recommended take what I'm typing seriously. Not everyone there is selfish and willing to put people at risk because of their own personal issues.. I'm sure Avalon has some great people there, some of the nurses and aides were very professional and I could clearly see they had compassion and empathy for the people they are there to serve... but the few that hide in offices like for Example sign on door that says "Social worker" her name is Harlene. Maybe find a job where your I don't care about what's right I care about how I feel" doesn't affect someone who has done nothing to you and needs help and can't help themselves because their disabled. Lastly, on his 2nd to the last day there I walked in to urine on the floor, and my dad hungry. If you have time to call People up about stupid things make sure their rooms are cleaned and they are fed first. After all this was said and done I then got word from a friend of mine that her mother was there and it was not good for her either. Pls do better. Again this is not a reflection of the entire staff I'm sure Avalon has some Great people there but some need to be removed.
