Overall, I've been pleased with the installation and the system itself. My concern is with the follow-up service. Part of the critter guard came loose and fell off, and it has now been almost three months since I first contacted Oak. During that time, I've corresponded with three different people at the company as well as their phone service. I initially asked whether the repair was covered under warranty. I also asked that, if it was not, they simply provide a parts list or tell me what I would need to buy so I could address it myself. I still have not received that information. I was subsequently told that Oak would take care of the repair, but almost three months later the critter guard is still sitting on the sidewalk. This seems like a relatively minor issue, and I've tried to be flexible about the solution. I would be satisfied either with Oak reattaching it as promised or with enough information to understand what is needed to fix it properly. I chose Oak in part because of its participation in Ann Arbor's organized solar group-buy program, and I otherwise like the solar installation. I'm posting this review because the normal service channels have not resolved what should be a straightforward service request. I hope someone at Oak sees this and gets it taken care of. I'll be happy to update the review when it is resolved.

In my area where I live, our power grid is not as reliable as it should be where we typically lose power four or five times a year where in multiple instances the outage has run into as many as 6 days. Being on a well, power is everything, where loss of power means no running water and therefore no functioning toilets which means a non functioning home where you have to leave and find alternate quarters to live. As a result a home generator is a necessity for us and ensuring it will work when needed is a priority. Thats where American Generator comes in, they do a comprehensive maintenance program for $285 that includes oil change, spark plugs, air filter and a host of mechanical and electrical checks that once completed have always resulted in our generator working when needed. These structured checks are similar to what you see in an auto dealership when you get the Works (I.E. Ford dealership) where a whole host of key checks are performed. During the last visit, the Generator Technician for example saw my 12V battery was starting to go bad and identified that as something that needed to be addressed near term. Relative to the technicians themselv, they are very professional and friendly and will go out of their way to educate you on your system which is something I greatly appreciate being a DIY guy. All in all, if you have already spent the big bucks getting one of these systems, than an annual service program like this is an absolute must to protect your investment where American Generator is definately a company to consider.
