I'll be honest, I'm a total spa snob. The Spa At Stowe Mountain Lodge might be the best I have ever…read moreexperienced. Just walking through the door into the storefront where you check in for your treatment is cathartic on its own with soothing smells, good lighting, and kind smiles from welcoming staff. The [very clean] locker rooms are equipped with everything you'd expect from a quality spa (soft robes, great showers, top-notch toiletries, hairdryers, etc). The relaxation room is warm (in every sense of the word) and calming. There are lounge chairs covered in pillows right by a fireplace with a gorgeous view of Stowe Mountain. There are snacks, handbagged tea, and icy cold coconut water. It's a perfect place to start your unwinding journey. The water lounge is like it was taken out of a magazine, and if I hadn't already been signed up for a salt scrub, I would have spent much of my time in there. The steam room is dimly lit with the sounds of a rainstorm, the steam infused with eucalyptus. The sauna smells like a cherry wood forest and the natural warmth from the himalayan salts inside is grounding. My actual treatment was otherworldly, which is what my therapist told me it would be; she kept her word. I'm running out of words to describe it, but I will say that I felt like I had shed my skin like a snake and that both my skin and spirit were completely renewed. I cannot recommend this spa more. If you're in the area, don't miss it.

Second time here. Always something broken or out of order in the spa and maybe they tell you before…read morethe reservation and maybe they tell you when you show up. This time " jacuzzi women's and jacuzzi mens both non functioning. Check weather outside as jacuzzi and pool will close if thunder. Finally, no one really monitoring the spa are so if a large loud group comes through and leaves a huge mess of drinks and food and trash. You might be the one to deal with it (eg no where to put your things, too many dirty drink glasses on vanity no where to sit or find a quiet spot. Not really a "Spa" feel as a result. O heads up if you are looking for quiet and relaxing. This is not it. If you want big family reunion bridal, or mom's weekend away. This might be your spot.

Three hot Jacuzzi pools, cold and tepid pools with a waterfall (oh my), eucalyptus steam room, 3 dry saunas, a relaxation room with wood stove and zero gravity lounge chairs, massages, and treatments of all types. With hot saunas and steam baths inside, hot and cold pools outside as well and relaxation tents and a Finnish sauna, they also provide massages, facials and everything else you'd expect at a spa. They have an amazing after 5pm deal which allows you to use their facilities for a mere $23. Bring your bathing suit, bathrobe, flip flops and home facial masks. I usually do the sauna, then the cold waterfall river dip, then the relaxation room circuit about three times to get the full effect and then chill out in their atriums with my mask on and shower everything off afterwards. Watching the waterfalls while inside inside the hot sauna, and then dipping into the frigid waters afterwards, will kickstart anyone's system. You will walk out a new person.

I almost never leave negative reviews, and when I do, there's usually a good reason. But this…read moreexperience was so unusual that I almost have to admire its creativity. Two weeks after my hair-cut appointment, I received a phone call informing me that we were "not a good fit." For a moment, I thought perhaps my hair had filed a complaint without telling me. I calmly asked why--not to argue or change anyone's mind, but simply to understand so I could learn something for future appointments. The answer? Still, "We're not a good fit." Apparently my assignment was to solve this mystery with no clues...and no stylist's notes. What made this especially disappointing was that this wasn't just a routine color appointment. We had spent considerable time discussing what I believed would be a long-term transition plan to gradually blend my colored hair into my natural gray using lower-chemical products. My understanding was that it would be a careful process that could take a year or two, with appointments lasting hours along the way. I left excited to begin that journey. So the unexpected phone call two weeks later was genuinely shocking. Looking back, perhaps we truly weren't "a good fit." That's perfectly okay. I wasn't looking for a friendship--I was looking for an experienced colorist who could guide me through this transition. If she had simply said, "I don't think I'm the right person for this project," I would have completely respected that. I just wish she had communicated more clearly and specifically and reminded me of the transition plan we had discussed so I could continue my search intelligently with another colorist. Instead, I was left wondering if my hair had committed a crime while I wasn't looking. One star for communication. Five stars for creating the only salon experience where I left needing a detective instead of a conditioner.
