Before I go into my review I'm going to share my only complaint: Ace corporate policy says that any return that has been opened or used in any way cannot be returned. (So don't open the packaging on things unless you know you are going to use them). That being said, this Ace hardware is my go to place for all my home repair needs. The team here is super helpful, super friendly, and full of good advice. I have yet to have a project where they were not able to steer me in the right direction. The team here just simply knows their stuff. They provide good small town hardware service (getting to know your and your projects and remembering and asking about them in the future) in a corporate store. They need to value all of their customers. This is the first negative review I've written in a long time. I am a home owner who lives and works in Federal Way. My wife and I are constantly renovating and upgrading our home and we were thrilled to have an Ace Hardware so close to where we live. We try to support small businesses, franchises and co-ops (like Ace Hardware) whenever possible, and ACE IS THE PLACE WITH THE HELPFUL HARDWARE FOLKS...just not Trinity Ace Hardware. I have personally felt that the staff there were often a little abrupt, but no big deal...retail is a hard racket and folks are busy. Well, today my wife went in to return a defective item we bought there. We bought a simple pipe cutter...under $20...that was defective out of the box. Our licensed plumber couldn't get it to work and recommended we return it. First, the cashier told her their policy was that they do not offer refunds for items removed from their packaging. Apparently, the manager (Misty) was standing right there and said nothing to intervene. My wife tried to ask the cashier questions to clarify. She told the cashier our plumber said it wasn't cutting properly and she should return it. Again, the cashier said it was opened and that she couldn't offer a refund. My wife started heading to the exit and shouted "fine, I'll take my business elsewhere." The manager finally chimed in yelling at her "good, we don't want you here! Don't come back!" Upon hearing about this, I called the manager with the intent of smoothing things over. I introduced myself, as the husband of her "problem customer" from earlier and we laughed a little, and then I asked about their return policy. When I asked about their policy regarding manufacture defects she stated that they have their guy evaluate it and if it's defective "we take care of it." I asked, "so why didn't you offer that for my wife?" She responded that my wife was rude and had a meltdown in the store. When I tried to suggest that she needed to work on her conflict resolution skills and show that she values the patronage of all of her customers equally, she started talking faster and wouldn't stop talking. I waited until she ran out of breath and then suggested that she had no intent of allowing my wife to return the item despite their policy...she started up again with the speed talking. Well, I got frustrated and dropped an F-bomb about the customer always being f#%*ing right. Of course she hung up. I felt bad later about my "meltdown" to use her words about my wife, but that's a nice little tactic she's got. She can PICK AND CHOOSE who she feels is a valued customer and if you happen to not meet that valued-customer criteria she gaslights you until you get frustrated and have a meltdown and then she gets to feel superior which was probably her goal all along. This place has a distinct your-money-is-no-good-here vibe to it if you are not on their "valued customer" list. I called three other Ace Hardware stores in the area and not only did they explain their return policies in clear, easy-to-understand terms, two of them said they would take our item back for a refund even though they didn't sell it to us... BEST ACE HARDWARE EVER, BUT PLEASE OPEN ON SUNDAYS I don't normally write reviews for hardware stores, but this Ace is just in the perfect location between Lowe's and Home Depots miles apart on Pacific Highway in Federal Way. It's a super convenient location, and the footprint is way larger than normal Ace Hardwares, giving them notably greater variety and selection than come in most places... but here's the thing... they are closed Sunday. Now I'm just saying, I work in Seattle, so M-F are out of the question for an Ace visit... which means I can only go on Sat or Sun... but if one of those days is closed (ie Sunday), then that means I can only enjoy this place one day a week. I purchased 8 (eight) cases of 24oz. Mason jars, at least 2 weeks ago. I paid for them while I was in the store (via credit card). We (owner and I) checked the stock and expected delivery from the warehouse. I SAW IT ON THE COMPUTER; OWNER SHOWED ME! It was expected to arrive by about, Dec. 2nd. Owner said to wait until the 6th for pick up! I called on Dec. 7th and was told that the delivery was late and they were still putting things away. I was told someone would call me when the jars were ready. I thought that meant, by at least, the next day (on Dec 8th; no call). I called again today (Dec. 9th, 2022). Now, I'm told they are "still on back-order." WHAT?! What's worse.... I can't get a refund until I go to the store!!!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!!! THEY LIE! I'm guessing that those jars were sold to someone else! Regardless, other than to get my refund, I will NEVER, EVER, set foot into an ACE HARDWARE, again, especially, THIS ONE! DON'T GO THERE!!! Very well stocked store and spacious shopping area. I went in looking for Stihl equipment and they did not disappoint. They had the exact hedge trimmer attachment i was looking for. But don't go there during a covid pandemic !! ... all 4 employees I saw were not wearing masks, the presumptive manager was walking around talking to people without a mask, tool area sales guy was talking with her up close as they fixed a display rack, the only person that had some semblance of a mask had it halfway on -- The ironic part was that all customers were wearing masks ... so we protected them, but they didn't protect us. read more

Went in to get help with some screws and bolts. Ask the floor manager if he could help me, he told me to write down all the screws and bolts I needed. After I finished writing down I see he is busy with another customer, no problem. I ask two other employees for help and they both say only the floor manager can help. So the employee asks him if they can help me while he was working with another customer. He replies "you need to have patience, just be patient." I reply "I'm sorry, I asked the one of the other 5 employees to see if they can help." He snaps back out of nowhere and responds "do you want my help or not?" Now I'm irritated, I respond "what are you talking about? You're mad cause I asked another employee for help cause I saw you're busy with someone?" Ends up helping me while telling me the screws measurements were stupid since they are in the metric system. I have been harassed in this store and I believe that it is because of the fact that I am an African American female. At the track where I run I often get mistaken for a high school cheer leader. I am 60 but I believe that because I look like a teenager that I get mistreated. I have spent hundreds of dollars in the store but last week I was asked to leave because I was being disruptive. They said that I looked no different than the homeless thieves that come there. I was just there to buy some velcro. I said that I was not being disruptive but they called a police officer and refused to sell me the velcro. I will not be shopping there again. Staff friendly enough, example of pricing...polarized 110v plug (female and male end) is a fairly inexpensive plug...just purchased 6 from a big box store and needed one additional and Ace is a bit closer. Their price was 41% more than the box stores. This isn't the first time a small part was over the top in pricing. Embarrassed and humiliated! I've never experienced racial profiling before but I supposed there is always a first time! I was asked to leave because allegedly I looked like someone they said is not welcome to shop there. When the realization became clear that I was not the same person she thought all she said to me was, "You must have a twin out there!" No extended apology of any kind! She did, however, made a comment to the gentleman who she instructed to ask me to leave, mind you in front of customers, "it's a classic case of mistaken identity!" The gentleman made a statement saying how he felt stupid for what he did and threw his arms up and said "I just do what I'm told!" I felt bad for him because he was the same gentleman that was very helpful when I came in to have keys made last year. I moved into the neighborhood August of 2019. I thought having a hardware store so conveniently located and where I can easily walk to was wonderful. It's my second time shopping there and all I wanted to buy was a light bulb. I brought the burnt out bulb with me to make sure I purchased the correct one. I asked a gentleman there for assistance and he was very accommodating and went out of his way to grab a magnifying glass to read the exact wattage of the bulb so I can buy the right one. I thanked him graciously and the gentleman manning the station for keys joined in the humor with the words I use to describe the ridges of the bulb. I recognized this same gentleman as the same person who helped me with getting 3 keys made last year when I moved in to my new place down the street. We exchanged pleasantries and humor about kids moving back home with parents and such. After making my selection and proceeded to the checkout register the same gentleman behind the key station approached me and said that I was not allowed to shop there, "were you not told that you are no longer allowed to come in to the store?" I was a bit confused and I thought he was joking around. Apparently, he was instructed to tell me to leave and took the items from my hand then walked back to his station. After I was told by the lady (I think she may be the store manager) that I must have a twin out there, I asked her if I can still buy the bulb she said yes in a very dismissive way and, again, no extended apologies for her quick assumption. I was going to buy the bulb anyway but I was so perturbed by the entire encounter and experience, I changed my mind and quietly walked out of the store. When I got home I shared this embarrassing and humiliating experience with my daughter. She immediately called the store and politely requested to speak to the manager. To summarize the end result of the phone conversation my daughter had with the lady was this...to be told that because this is "Federal Way" and "the mask and hat" does not qualify to quickly jump into action with uncertainty. Furthermore, during this current crazy and challenging time we are all experiencing with the pandemic and the negative division with humanity of all kinds, does not bode well for a business called Trinity Ace Hardware. My day started out much like the rest of you who have the opportunity of reading this encounter. I woke up on a Saturday with the determination to complete my weekend tasks. I began working on a project that would solve the age-old problem of owning an aquarium, the bane of most of our existence which is called a water change. I did some research and bought a 55gallon water container and the necessary peripherals that would allow the system to work. I own a Neptune controller and purchased the DOS pump months ago with the intention of completing this project when I moved out of my Puyallup address (Puyallup just did not have enough space). I had the day off yesterday for a medical appointment and decided today would be a great day to begin finalizing the project since my 55 gallon container arrived. I began retrieving the parts I needed from Trinity Ace Hardware located in Federal Way, Washington on the 23rd of April (yesterday), but with all DIY, you always end up returning about two to three more times once you realize your lacking something important and necessary for completion of the project. I was serviced by the individual that my complaint revolves around yesterday without a hitch. I only needed his help once yesterday, but this morning was completely different. I needed some Shark Bite fittings that needed to be put together. He initially told me that the parts that I was intending on using was not designed to meet my application needs. I responded stating that I I've used these very fittings to complete my various aquarium needs to which he just rebuked. I then asked if he could help me resolve my problem to which he responded by saying "No!" I went on to ask if I could open a package to see if the fittings would work and he stated "No!" I am fairly easy going, but I couldn't help but feel like he was treating me different (I'm of course African American and this individual was not). I came close to walking out, but my sense of reason led me to ask for the manager. I explained my situation and she sprung into action. She followed me to the items I needed and opened the products to ensure the fittings were correct (all of which I purchased!). I have done this same procedure at Home Depot and Lowes without a hitch. I am a professional medical provider and graduate of Vanderbilt with over 15 years of experience. I treat everybody with respect and love regardless of their background. I am only asking for the same in return. The point of this message is if you feel like you are being treated different, you probably are! Do not fly off the handle, go to the appropriate management and hopefully things will deescalate. In the case that your needs are not met after talking to management, just go corporate and walk away. Nobody should feel dehumanized when going to spend approximately 35 dollars (even one dollar) in this day in time. If you encounter indifference, please speak up. I feel that we are expected to walk away and ignore these challenges when confronted. The project was completed, but I'm sill left with a bit of an annoyance. read more

Gotta give them two stars on this one. Came in for a new Weber kettle grill. They had only one on the shelf in the box of the model I wanted. The box was pretty banged up to say the least. Sales person offered and I agreed to purchase it and if anything was wrong they would make it right. That seemed fair enough. Went straight home to assemble it. The cooking grate which is in the bottom of the box was damaged. Returned to the store with the damaged grill less than an hour after the purchase to "make it right". The manager told me it was between Weber and me to get a replacement. That took several phone calls and emails. The new one is on the way but what a hassle for something that was obviously questioned at the time of purchase. read more

Came in like I normally do every week and instantly got harassed by an employee because of my purse was not allowed in the store so how was I supposed to shop??? Very embarrassing to be called out in the middle of the store like I was some thief when everyone there has seen me shopping there with this same purse on multiple occasions. I so glad to again have an excellent hardware nearby. Nick Rose has built a store that is well-stocked with both Ace and name brand products. The sraff are friendly, smiling (they are glad to see you) and knowledgeable. Since it usually takes me several trips to fix things (my lack of skill and the oddball original fixtures), it is a relief not to have to go miles to a big box store where the staff are hard to find and of little help. Not real happy with the customer service here. I went in today to buy a part for my sliding glass door to lock it. I showed a picture of what I wanted to the guy who helped me. He showed my what I needed. Dummy me, I didn't pay that much attention. I bought it, brought it home, opened the package (very carefully) and realized I didn't need the whole door handle kit, I just need the little plate that the lock thing goes into. I get in my car and go back to Ace to return it and just get the little part I want. Nick came up front, said "oops so sorry, you opened the package, we can't take it back". I told him that that was what they suggested and it was wrong. Again, sorry, no return. I told him that all I needed was the little dollar plate, not the whole $26.99 handle and that I might as well just leave it there. He told me to go ahead and take the little plate out. How is that for customer service. I try to support my neighbor hood stores, but I will go back to Home Depot. read more
