I created a Yelp account just for this, in the hope that someone else is spared this nonsense. TriNet (and SOI before them) is just unspeakably awful. I haven't had a major life event in the last several years that hasn't involved some complete meltdown on their part, usually costing me hundreds of dollars in the process. They are slow to respond to problems, they never own up to responsibility for causing said problems in the first place, and generally terrible to deal with in general. I was absolutely impressed on the level of service I received when I called customer support. I did not have to wait to get a live representative and the live rep was able to find my information immediately and answered my questions completely in just a few moments. After working with Trinet for several years, receiving ok, not awful, customer service, we have since been ripped off to the tune of $15k in health insurance that they wrongly charged for one of our employees, and which they refused countless times to discontinue. This employee, who turned 65 in 2018, had enrolled in Medicare, and no longer needed the Trinet insurance. She was told to send in the (very complicated) "life status change form" to explain this. She even followed up on the phone. When we discovered this overcharge, admittedly months late, Trinet said that they knew the employee was on Medicare, and that they were using Medicare as the secondary" insurance to the Aetna insurance Trinet was providing as a primary (and which she never used). Our lawyers explained it is against Medicare laws to use Medicare as a "secondary" insurer for a company with fewer than 20 employees (we have way fewer employees than that). Trinet escalated the matter to Juanita D., a manager, and on June 26, she instructed the employee to fill out the "life status change form" again, saying the employee wants to immediately cease Trinet coverage because she was being covered by Medicare and didn't want or need the Aetna coverage. A case number was assigned. Meanwhile Trinet continued to charge for her insurance, even while knowing she was fully covered by Medicare. After receiving an invoice from them yesterday, we called yet again, speaking to a Kim. She informed us the appeal had been DENIED! When? On July 2! But this was July 10, and they hadn't yet informed us! WHY WERE WE DENIED? Because we were past the 180 days when Medicare first went into effect, and also because that "life status change" form does not cancel the insurance. These technicalities, never explained to us, allowed Trinet to knowingly exploit a small company and an elderly employee. To make matters worse, Kim informed us that we would have to WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER to cancel their insurance policy (during open enrollment) and that while we were waiting, we would continue to be charged about $1k/month for the next 4-5 months. Trinet has a fiduciary responsibility to its clients to make sure it is NOT overcharging, especially when doing so KNOWINGLY. How many other employees enrolled in Medicare are Trinet exploiting? Trinet not only violated its fiduciary responsibility to us, but it has been doing so against the laws of Medicare. We are now seeking to get our money back from Trinet, and to cancel the employee's insurance immediately. This company clearly only acts in its own interests, and not in the interests of its clients. read more

As an accountant with over 25 years experience, this is without a doubt the WORST service provider ever! Although they have nice people, they are so overly specialized that no one has any type of overview and it is just one endless transfer from one phone # to another. Their platform sucks and is not intuitive. Their screens are inconsistent in terms of terminology. I have never written a yelp review on anything before, no matter how bad the meal or how bad the service I received, but the multiple awful experiences I have had with the platform and everything else compels me to warn others. Also, they are so overly compliant that you can't get an answer about anything, even the which benefit plans selected by employees that you are the administrator for....that is ridiculous and is not a state secret. read more

I am not the type of person to write a review. In fact, I think I have only written one other in my life. I normally only share positive feedback on experiences and companies. TriNet has upset me so much, that I thought it best to let the general public know how terrible their service is. I wish there was an option to give them no stars. My husband quit his job, and we were on his healthcare plan with TriNet managing the process. After his last day of work they did not send us any information on continuing and/or terminating benefits until 36 days after his departure. My husband emailed/ called TriNet for over 4 weeks to obtain this information. He was trying to be proactive, as I am pregnant and due in 2 months. When TriNet finally responded to us and sent over the necessary paperwork (over a month later) we had missed the window to opt in for my insurance plan. (We did not know that some insurance providers have a "life event" policy that states if a life event occurs you can opt into a new healthcare plan within a 30 day period after the event if it outside of the open enrollment time period - Pretty sure not everyone knows this.) TriNet told us there was nothing they could do, and that my company would need to write an appeal on our behalf to allow us to switch to my insurance policy. How is it my company's responsibility or fault!? They took zero accountability for their laziness and lack of efficiency and tried to blame it on the policies of my healthcare provider. They also said our address changed so the paperwork was delayed getting to us. Do they not check their phones and emails because I'm pretty sure they were contacted multiple times? Therefore, our only option is to join Cobra and spend a ridiculous amount of money per month, which we were not anticipating because I have to get coverage for my doctor visits. Way to help out a family in need TriNet. I would write the name of the "client services" person that was "helping" us, but I'm not that malicious. But I hope you can sleep at night knowing the position you put your clients in. read more

If I could leave less stars, I would. Absolutely infuriating experience. As most others on this thread (now that I've read it!) I had the same experience. They promise the best health insurance costs, then jack the rates almost immediately. Our LOWEST increase this year was 116%! All of the plans more than doubled in cost. They try to charge you for additional "off cycle" payrolls that were caused because they messed up. They charged one of my employees double on the health insurance premium, he called and couldn't even get anyone to acknowledge it at first, then they did and said it would be fixed and the next month his insurance is "terminated". They instituted a $1,000 "exit fee" for the 401k plan, which was NOT part of the contract I signed, but they say now that I want to leave that I'm required to pay it because "use of the plan after the date the fee was added equals agreeing to it" despite never having any warning of such a fee. They are despicable, please for the love of your small business, stay away! So many other PEOs are not charging fees this way, and during COVID, when my business was mandated closed and we had no revenue, while banks were delaying payments, trinet collected EXTRA fees because I had to change the status of myself and my employees as we were all furloughed. I am an employee, since I began working for our company we have had 3 separate HR providers. The other two I will decline to list, however let me start by saying I never had a problem with either one. With Trinet I had an issue from the start. 1: My very first paycheck didn't come in. I had to wait until the following week 2: My insurance was incorrect from what my selections were. The incorrect insurance caused me to otherwise have to pay co pays or higher co pays that I should not had had to pay. This issue took 2 months to be resolved. 3: My FSA (for childcare) was declined. The FSA that selected specifically for child care could not be used for child care. I was even issued a debit card that was essentially useless. This took 2 weeks to be resolved. 4: As of today I have been informed that the w-2 that was issued to me may be incorrect and not to file my taxes with this potentially incorrect w-2 I will have my hard copy by 15 Feb. These are just my personal experiences. I fail to mention the customer service who knew nothing about... any single issue that was going on. So they had to research only to find that "there is no issue" I have been sorely disappointed with this companies professionalism. Many of my fellow co workers have also experienced similar issues, the number one failure was that their medical elections where incorrect. notably our companies HR rep was exceptional at helping push Trinet to resolve all my issues. read more

Finally out of TriNet and couldn't be happier but still dealing with there mess. Our small company had TriNet for two years, new we would pay a steep premium to have them but wanted their array of services. The company never earned the high prices. They sell that you become their "employee" and that allows for better health prices. Actually, they treat your company as an individual company and if anyone has issues they jack up your healthcare costs. Ours went up 40% in two years. They provide little to no support for any other issues and are non-responsive once you inform them you are leaving. One of the nice perks is affordable life insurance that is supposed to be portable. We are now 50 days since termination and have had no luck getting any paperwork to get this done for any employee. TriNet blames MetLife, MetLife blames TriNet. After the latest call it became clear that TriNet half assed the info to MetLife and now every employee must call individually if they want to continue coverage, versus the automatic system that is supposed to be set up. This process is going to cost our company thousands of dollars in lost time. I would stay away, PEOs are the last place allowed to jack up your premiums based on medical usage. Then TriNet compounds by being flippant at best about the situation and really saying, if you don't like it please leave. No customer service at all. TERRIBLE company. read more

The only reason I have been on Trinet is since it is forced upon me by my employer. Trinet is the WORST ORGANIZATION I have worked with in my 25+ years in the financial services industry (said my accountant too late). DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY BY HIRING THIS COMPANY. You may as well just burn your money for heat. The incompetence level of Trinet is of the likes you have never seen. We had to deal, on a day-to-day basis, with screw up after screw up. It was a full time job simply to monitor, double check and re-do every aspect of their inferior service. The Trinet sales rep's pitch will talk a big game and deliver the EXACT opposite. The frustration and expense involved with dealing with Trinet was one of the main deciding factors in closing my business and retiring. The very tasks TriNet promised to off-load became ten times more work. The colossal amount of errors made by a company that is a self-described "expert" is laughable. I used Trinet's service for one year and estimate my financial loss to equal approximately $5,000 (and who knows how much time was wasted?) which they were unwilling to reimburse. Being a successful small business owner (in spite of Trinet) was very difficult, but I was able to weather the Trinet storm of stupidity. I worry that other small businesses will not be as fortunate. The problem, in hindsight, was that I was so busy running my company that I had no time to check their Yelp reviews and relied solely on the word of an HR consultant, who raved about them. Within hours of transferring over my business to Trinet, and the HR consultant gone, I realized I had made a HUGE MISTAKE. Finally, to make matters worse (when it didn't seem possible), it was a nightmare to extricate my business once I had committed; I warn you with all sincerity not to get entangled in the first place! BUSINESS BEWARE!!!!! Trinet, WORST BUSINESS DECISION WE HAVE EVER, AND I REPEAT EVER MADE!!! In 28years of handling our own HR, Payroll, WC, and Health Insurances Trinet had a good sales team, from that point forward they have done nothing but fail. They mess up holiday pay, vacation pay, overtime, direct deposit, actual hours worked, taxes (ALL PARTS OF THE TAX WITHHOLDINGS THEY MESSED UP). It is unbelievable we spend more time FIXING payroll than we ever did when we did 100% of the payroll in house. They take 2weeks minimum of make any changes and those changes never seem to take care of the problem. I just had another employee come in today MAD!!! That didn't have their direct deposit in their account, they had closed an old account and opened a new bank account, for the 3rd week in a row WE HAVE SUBMITTED EVERYTHING, CALLED TRINET and CONFIRMED They knew the account is closed yet they still try to put this employees money in the old account. They are incompetent on every level, management and down cannot solve problems. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM TRINET FOR ANY AND ALL HR and PAYROLL NEEDS. IT is the WORST decision in 28years we have ever made with those items but they sold us on the insurance premiums being reduced by half of what we pay now, that was the selling pitch and I wish we never made this decision. We have been with TriNet for about two years and once you have the team in place that I have, you feel like royalty. They go over and above ensuring your company and team are cared for and all the numbers are correct. If your rep isn't available and you can't wait for them to respond, you have the option of waiting for the next rep which is just as knowledgeable so you are always covered. Their help desk is always ready and willing to assist as well. If you need training on any of their functions so you understand how their billing or your paycheck deductions work, all you have to do is ask and they explain and/or train you so you understand. The multitude of benefits available to us through a PEO are incredible. We are quite pleased with the service we receive. read more

Customer service is nice, but they could not answer a simple question. 3. Long time waiting on the telephone. 4. First day with TriNet and not a great start. First, half of the company could not log-in as TriNet IT messed up our log-in information. Emailing TriNet designated email address resulted in "Thank You, we'll get back to you in 3 days" email. I did get an email the next day which said that I had to call in order to solve this issue. Thankfully, we have already done that and were able to log in. Once you log in, you are confronted with 50- to 70-page PDF documents. It's not geared towards your company, but everything for everyone. Took a while to figure out which specific PDFs were relevant to our company. Once you find the description of different benefits plans. the actual premium is nowhere to be found. Again, after some digging around, the right page was found. Had to print all these different PDFs in order to have all relevant information in front of me. Not very user friendly. Our HR offered 1-hour seminars with a TriNet rep to answer all our questions. Great! except the actual rep could not be here, and the women who is here does not have all the information, cannot answer a lot of our questions. This is not her area of expertise. I guess we'll how it will work out. As it is, we don't have a choice in the matter. read more

Interesting that my experience has been so different than others! I was recently sold off from a huge company to a smaller one that uses TriNet. Changing health insurers was particularly scary, because of some serious health issues in my family. The TriNet reps were extremely helpful in answering questions and pointing me to lots of additional information available. To be honest, I've had MANY horrendous customer service experiences, and my TriNet experiences were exactly the opposite. My call was answered immediately 4 times, and I waited about 2 min (or less) one time. All five times, my questions (and there were lots!) were answered correctly. I didn't find a single piece of information that was incorrect. I've also received one paycheck, and all other companies I've worked for required a 'dry-run' for the direct deposit to take effect. TriNet successfully deposited my first paycheck into the correct bank account. I have found TriNet to be extremely helpful and very professional. Thanks to all the reps for the help! I must be using a different service from looking at the other reviews. My company has used them for not just FSA but all HR services including payroll, and most other benefits for approx. 2 years now. Over that timeframe I have called a likely 20 times at least for a variety of reasons. First I have never waited more than a minute for someone live to answer. Second, no matter what question I have asked they always either know the answer or will find the answer. They are always courteous and knowing there are surveys right after every call I am sure that is a motivator none the less. Not sure what I am missing from the others but I have never ever had such great service over the phone for most any company. read more

Be extremely careful if your company chooses to use TriNet for your benefits especially with FSA accounts. They state their rules for Dependent Care accounts work one way but in reality they do not work as advertised. The most important thing to keep track of in ANY FSA account you open with them, is how much you have contributed and how much you have left in the account. It is TriNet's BEST INTEREST for you to not track your funds because you forfeit any funds you do not use in reimbursements. What they don't tell you is you forfeit that money to TriNet. They get your unused contributions. They will not notify you that they are about to take your unused contributions except to send you an email without any urgency in the subject line so it is easy to overlook, they will not send you any notification except that email. A direct quote from the FSA Manager: ""we do not send out letters to any FSA participant, we only notify through email." They expect you to log in to your account (after waiving all rights to privacy and agreeing to their arbitration policy and any other rules they wish to impose in order to let you have access rights to their website) and keep track of this yourself. They have made the business decision to make as little effort as possible to let you know your contributions are about to go into their pockets. This is a money maker for them so they have zero incentive to make sure you use the funds you contributed. When you complain, the Manager of the FSA group will tell you "the fact of the matter is, you did not submit your claims on time. Nothing you do is going to change the outcome." If you are forced to use them because your company has hired them as their benefits administrators, make sure you circle in a big red circle on a calendar the date on which they will simply take your money which you have contibuted out of your paycheck away from you. Miss that deadline and there is nothing they are going to do to help you. Why should they, they just made money off of your mistake. read more

They let my insurance lapse. COBRA paperwork mailed out to me on 28th even though it takes 7 to 10 days for them to process once they get it back. I can't believe they care so little. Really let down and in a bad spot - recovering on disability with lots of new Dr appointments coming up. Not sure how they will happen since I have no coverage. (And don't bother giving me the 800 number to call - I'm already down that road but hosed.) read more

The intent of implementing TriNet HR was to outsource the entire HR department and have the ability to offer employees more options at a lower cost. To begin with, the implementation was a horrendous event...they kept saying our company didn't provide them this information on this employee, or they didn't receive information all together on that employee. That was just the implementation! Every issue that crept up after the implementation was never seen through to completion. Our employees ended up angry and/or frustrated and coming to the company, which completely defeated the purpose of outsourcing. At the end of the day, TriNet takes no accountability or no follow up. Don't be swayed (fooled) by the great insurance rates initially...as with any company their rates went up 20% and they drop plans and offerings without any consultation from their clients. Take my advice...STAY AWAY FROM TRINET!!! read more

I have to chuckle at some of these reviews slamming TriNet -- I have thr distinct feeling that the VAST majority of people who bother to write a review only do so because they are bitter and frustrated at the outcome of one interaction that did not go as they had hoped -- and a good many may be slamming TriNet for issues over which TriNet has no control. TriNet is not your HR department! AFTER your HR department gets an employee successfully and completely on-boarded, TriNet is your benefits administrator. I have never before worked for a company that used an outside payroll/benefits coordinator. It helps to have your questions formulated and to be prepared before calling/contacting them; they cannot divine your issues. I have had occasion to call TriNet around half-a-dozen times in my first eight months with my current employer and each time, I was treated with respect and professionalism; I have yet to bring a question or issue to TriNet that could not be resolves quickly, easily and completely to my satisfaction. Yes, there are forms that must be filled out to get a reimbursement for covered expenses for which one has come out of pocket, but how else can the claim be validated? For 2016, I made changes to my benefits elections in the extra change period provided by TriNet after the change period had closed; a benefit I was very happy to have had. In short, I have been extremely satisfied with TriNet and the help I receive from their representatives when I have occasion to contact them. Perhaps all of the people so eager to berate the company ought to check with their own HR department to ensure the problem doesn't originate there. The knowledge and professionalism displayed by their representatives is to be commended. And by the way, ALL websites are down periodically for maintenance and upgrading -- its the nature of the beast! Keep up the great work TriNet! read more

I've been a member of TriNet's Full-Service HR solutions for almost 3 years and absolutely love it! There's many affordable benefit packages to choose from, and I've never had one issue with my payroll or benefits. I have had several questions, when things were a little unclear, but the reps at the call center are highly responsive & will answer any of my silly questions. & the new technology platform is so easy to use, I can look up and do most things from the cell phone app (request time off, submit expense reports, and view my pay stubs & benefits info). Definitely one of the best PEOs I've used & I highly recommend their services! read more
