I've got to agree with what everyone else is saying. TriNet is terrible. Every single thing you need to do requires a support ticket. Their fees are INSANELY expensive compared to virtually any other PEO. Their processing platform is not keeping up with the times and is super outdated. Their reports are minimal at best and, again, many are blocked and you need a support ticket. Their fees go up every year, they just fired their CFO last year, and you're going to get hit with random "innovation fees" throughout the year that have no explanation. They control your pay dates and make it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to move payroll processing dates.. for example they'll demand payroll be due on the final day of a pay period, despite having hourly employees who have barely started the day, and it's due by 10am. Any request to change that payroll processing date (because, you know, that's kind of illegal), is met with... "oh, sorry, the team says a week isn't enough advance notice". And no matter how many times you remind them HEY, we have HOURLY EMPLOYEES, we need payroll to be processed AFTER the pay period ENDS, they will continue to schedule and demand it that way... but only sometimes!!!... and it's not relevant to any holidays or weekends etc. It's just random. Sooo many road blocks, a VERY outdated processing system, very unfriendly user interface, they gatekeep nearly every permission in the entire system, and you don't have full access to your own company or employee data. The staff will pretty much always be passive aggressive or annoyed with your requests, and the layout is horrible. They're like the boss that nobody likes because they micromanage everything and don't give any of their staff a single ounce of autonomy, then get mad when the turnover rate is sky high. 0/10. I worked for 2 companies that used trinet in 2024. This usually means that you get 2 W-2s, which means that when you overpay your social security taxes you can easily get a refund. However, trinet didn't have the decency to make my life easier and sent me ONE W-2 for TWO employers, which is highly unusual. This caused me to have to file form 843, which took me OVER A WEEK OF MY LIFE TO LEARN HOW TO DO. Not only this, but they also provided no instructions on how to file the form, and did not have the decency to even tell me how much I overpaid. horrible HR outsourcing company. It will take them 60 days to compensate you for your 1st day of employment. They will tell you you are not eligible for benefits until 90 days, when in actuality it's 30 days and by then you will have missed the deadline to enroll (due to their incompetency). They will mess up your PTO, and if you call for help, they will remind you of the entire point of out-sourcing HR: they won't be able to help you! Jacqueline Menicucci is the worst of their customer service representatives. My experience on the phone with Jacqueline Menicucci was rude, discriminatory, and gaslighting. Whatever size your company is, AVOID TriNet PEO/payroll! We switched in May from Paylocity (not great) to TriNet (just terrible). Even the smallest change takes forever, and this is with a helpful service rep. More often than not, when they try to correct a transaction, they create another problem. They tell clients that giving dependent data (name and date of birth) for a competitive healthcare quote is a HIPPA violation and won't give it out. Clearly not a HIPPA violation as they require dependent names and dates of birth to underwrite their new business. Hypocrites and lie to clients all the time. As Employment laws and taxes became more complex and my staff started spreading across State line, I thought it wise to get help from a professional outfit that could keep us in compliance with multi-state taxes and jurisdictions, as well as finally being able to offer effective benefits to my employees. NONE of these solutions materialized. Trinet staff reply to every question on any topic with a comment like "Some other department is responsible for that topic. I will open a 'case' for you." (A case is like a support ticket.) Nobody responds for 6 months - even for super basic things. After 2 years, I am terminating our Trinet contract, only to discover: - Trinet never set up a Worker's Comp policy for my employees ever in 2 years but they certainly deducted the fees from my company account and my employees' paychecks. - Trinet only sometimes paid some of the state taxes in two States. Trinet pocketed all that money. So now I'm on the hook with the State Employment Dept in TWO jurisdictions for taxes I thought had already been paid. - Trinet withheld the incorrect amounts of FEDERAL taxes from my employees paychecks. Trinet still is only giving answers like, "Some other department is responsible for that topic. I will open a 'case' for you." I have had more anxiety stomachaches over Trinet than when I was managing payroll and HR compliance by myself using Intuit products. read more

Had to give one star but it should be zero. I cannot say this strongly enough, if you are a business owner do not even consider TriNet. This company is joke. At the most basic level a payroll company should get your employees paid and pay the payroll taxes. TriNet could not successfully do that. It is more work using TriNet than doing it yourself. Trinet is very unresponsive and their customer service is very poor. It has been 5 months and I am still waiting for my payroll correction. This is unacceptable! We switched to Trinet in order to streamline costs, add value to employees and allow growth. The sales process was great.. a LOT of promises about easy integration, cost control, access to their economies of scale for benefits. After a few months, we were already having problems that seemingly never got fixed. After a year, our HR Manager, the CEO and the senior accounting team had started calling them "Try Not" for their lack of care. I personally saw how They mishandled work comp cases and eventually drove our experience mod through the roof. We have since switched to ProCare HR and things have been great. They actually return calls and fix issues. They pay attention to details and ensure We have previously used ADP and did it in house using various 3rd party add-ons. Compared to anything I have used, TriNet was a truly bad experience. read more

Our Company moved over to TriNet's leased employee model and we have paid the ultimate price for a horrible decision. We have struggled with recruitment and retention due to the fact that TriNet has an increasingly bad reputation. We have actually lost out on several incredibly challenging positions and the candidates cited TriNet as the specific reason for not taking the job. We have lost good employees due to the fact that we can no longer make our own policies that support our employees. Instead we are forced to use TriNet employment policies that DO NOT fit our culture. I have received about 15 complaints from employees saying the customer service representatives are terrible to work with and they are constantly fighting with the benefit providers denying all of their claims. Our employees are especially upset that we went from our own broker and benefits that worked, to a broken system. Our employees were furious when they starting researching TriNet and realized we had every opportunity to know this would be a mess ahead of time. If recruitment and retention issues weren't bad enough, after six months with TriNet our cost went up 114%. Our company ignored every red flag and still went forward. We can not wait to get out of our contract. Hopefully, we will still have employees left. read more

I am a current Trinet customer and have been using Trinet for over a year now. Trinet wasnt fantastic but it was ok and I had a go to payroll person who would help us with any payroll issues and give me a heads up on any special deadlines, etc. Since covid, they have changed their process to this thing called CONNECT360. I was told that its supposed to help and improve the response time. CONNECT 360 works like your retailer customer service. you have to email then and then you get a ticket number and then you have to wait about 1-2 weeks to get your answer. I had ONE simple PTO request and that took 2 weeks and messed up my payroll as a result of the delayed response. I CANNOT recommend enough that you do not use Trinet. You will honestly thank me. We are trying to get out of it and shopping for other platforms but meanwhile, I will try my best to save others the hassle & $$. read more

Not sure which Trinet we worked with honestly but we are in NC. They did not explain how this would impact my ownership of my own business. They did not fully inform me that they would become my boss. I have worked hard in my own private business. It was interesting how hard it was for them to get back to me on questions and issues and several times I gave up. The fact that I was not my own owner actually impacted my purchase of a private property. They gave us bad advice regarding the FSA. I couldn't use an FSA since I was the owner yet they gave me one and then it was a mess when I tried to fix it. Took me multiple times to reach out to fix it. Then they would not work with me doing draws and told me I wasn't allowed which is not true. When we cancelled in the appropriate time, we still got an additional $600 innovation fee that they were not willing to waive even though it wasn't on the final paperwork by their error. The company is too big to care about the little guy once they sign you up and all those promises of "HR" was pretty much non existent. read more

I have been using Trinet to get health insurance for almost two years. They had a change in their new total minimum monthly service fee that was communicated to me in January. The service fee increased from $150 to $750 as I'm a single member LLC. My Trinet payments doubled from from $632 to $1,221. The issue I have here is that this change took place after open enrollment date, therefore, I am stuck either paying double, or being without insurance. They claimed that they gave me advance notice, however, it truly does not matter how much notice they gave me as my situation stays the same with open enrollment being in November and the change being communicated in January. On top of that, they are trying to charge me $100 early termination fee. I signed up based on the agreement that these fees would not change, but since they do, I am now being penalized for it because I cannot afford the price change. It's very disheartening and I'm incredibly dissatisfied. While I had Trinet & it worked well for me, this just really gave me a bad taste in my mouth. Definitely read the fine print with what you sign with Trinet. I spoke to customer service as well as an account manager but "their hands were tied". While I understand it's not their fault, I was left with no other options. read more

At least our payroll goes out on time and without much issue. However, everything else is a complete struggle. Once they changed up their customer service model, it went downhill fast. It is actually creating more work for the me due to their erronous handling of tax matters and the inconsistent information we can get from the call center. Our dedicated rep is too hands off to actually sort out these more involved matters (in her defense though, I can't imagine she has the bandwidth for it). I would say most of our issues stem from unemployment insurance matters with our non California employees. There are too many hands in the pot over there, and it is creating a mess dispite our efforts to correct their errors. Complete shame considering the high price we pay for this mediocre service. Trinet is a scam. They have very non-transparent pricing. With all of their reports, it is next to impossible to understand what you are paying. It turns out they are ripping off their customers. My monthly service fee has more than doubled in 3 years from $500 per month to $1100 per month. My worker's compensation has increased to $1400 per month per employee when the maximum payout is $1099 per week--most companies have a maximum salary when calculating workers compensation. My medical premiums have increased from $48,000 per year per employee to $150,000 per year per employee which I believe is a direct violation of the affordable care act. Trinet has many reports and emails and alerts but you can't find these hidden prices any where. Avoid them at all costs because on top of these scam prices, their service is horrible. read more

It is a dinosaur and very dysfunctional and will suck up dozens of hours of your time in correcting errors and poor customer service. My husband chose TRINET for his start-up and it has HURT him / his employees. I had previously given them a bad review, because of how they handled the debit card to my FSA account. Basically, they shouldn't cancel the card when you leave that employer. They should keep the card active until the balance drops to zero. A small hassle to get my money, but I did. This update is for that I'm doing my 2019 taxes now, yes, I took advantage of the extension from April 15 to July 15. :-) That employer did not send me a W-2 form. Ugh. But, I logged in using my old Trinet account everything was still there, and a few mouse clicks later, I had my W-2. Cool. :-) A small additional note is that using TurboTax, you can auto download the W-2 info too, so that is a small time saver. Thanks. read more

Incredibly frustrated with their customer service team. There was an issue that occurred that will result in incorrect W-2s being issued in early 2020. I reached out to them in October of this year detailing the issue. I then reached back out to check on the escalation three weeks later. The issue was still not resolved. A week or two after that, I receive an email reiterating my original issue that I had provided to their team as my "solution". Honestly, maybe this company is simply too big in terms of the number of clients or understaffed to deal with individual tax issues. But, if that's the case, maybe they should get out of the business of trying to handle these matters for companies? A C-level executive in my current organization is having similar frustrations due to an unrelated issue. We have now switched to a competitor in the sphere. While competitor's will also not be perfect- they do seem to be a bit more attentive to critical issues that come up for employees. Please think twice before starting a partnership with them. read more

If you are considering onboarding with Trinet, don't do it, just run away. I wish I had. This has been one of the worst management decisions I have made for our business. We've been with them for three months and it's a nightmare. When we were supposed to on-board the wrong benefits were assigned to our employees and it took weeks to resolve. All the time I should have spent helping our employees transition and learning the system were wasted on their mistakes. They cannot even get our payroll information to import correctly into QBs, which was one of the main reason I switched PEOs. Nothing works right and customer support is disjointed or non-existent. After working with Trinet for more than a year, it continues to provide poor service, poor reporting. Staff is only there to push you along, and provide no usable solutions. Trinet cannot provide you usable, financial reports. On the flip side, they are good at providing answers to employee benefits. I highly recommend using another PEO service. read more

I run an organization that has been with TriNet for about 1 year and ~5 months. They were so-so as a PEO, but since the beginning of 2021, they've just fallen off a cliff. Their monthly minimum service charge went from $600 to $1,000 and the only "notification" they claim to have sent is an email from an unrecognized email address that as far I can tell I never received (or that it went directly into my spam). Furthermore, they sent this email after the enrollment period had already elapsed to ensure that smaller organizations might end up being forced to stay with them for an extra year. Then, after discovering this additional charge, they choose to charge $100 per employee in order to terminate early and avoid paying even FURTHER charges. I am currently speaking with customer service and will update after that process concludes, but thus far I would recommend avoiding this company. JustWorks, Gusto, and others can serve small businesses better. read more

Day 1: I decline medical and dental coverage during their Open Enrollment period. Cool. Day 2: Got E-mail confirmation of my declination. Cool. Day 15: Got paper letter confirmation of my declination. Redundant, but still cool. Day 30: Got E-mail from Trinet that I need to fill out everything again. Okay...whatever. I fill out everything again. Cool. Day 31: Got E-mail confirmation of my declination. Cool. Day 45: I get charged for a BlueCrossBlueShield plan. What?! I call Trinet. They put me on hold. They didn't resolve my problem, but assign me a case number. Not cool. Day 50: I call Trinet again with my case number. The phone representative has no idea anything about my case, but spends 15 minutes trying to figure it out. She didn't resolve my problem, but tells me someone will get back to me. Not cool. Day 55: I call Trinet again with my case number. The phone representative has no idea anything about my case, but spends 20 minutes trying to figure it out. She didn't resolve my problem, but tells me someone will get back to me. Very not cool. Day 60: I call Trinet again with my case number. The phone representative has no idea anything about my case, but spends 25 minutes trying to figure it out. She didn't resolve my problem, but tells me someone will get back to me. Like many of the reviews have noted, Trinet appears to have essentially gutted any type of responsive customer service. This fundamentally undermines the whole point of utilizing the third party paid administrator. I think trying it is depending on the fact that it is a real hassle to change PEOs, but we will be going through that process at the end of the year due to the severe decline in support. read more

TriNet is unbelievable: 1) I just found TriNet is charging my firm 1.60899% for workers' comp for industry 8810 (clerical and admin). We have had no workers' comp claims. This is about 10x the market rate and effectively doubles their (already high) service fee. 2) Apparently, TriNet did not file our Illinois unemployment insurance properly. Now the Illinois Department of Employment Security is coming after us and assessing penalties. For weeks I've been trying to find someone at TriNet to speak with but to no avail. Their onboarding was a train wreck and required several calls to even get signed up for benefits. Trying to get dependent care reimbursement took several calls with a rep (min 10min to even get someone on the phone). On each call the reps claim the issue has been resolved yet never is. If you're a small - mid size firm looking for someone to manage your benefits - Don't use Trinet. read more

They changed their support system. They no longer have dedicated reps, now you go into a queue - a black hole. Have a timely question and need a quick response? Forget about it. If you can wait a few days (or more) for an answer, this may be a good option for you. Before they changed their support system, they offered discounts f you commit for a year. The worst HRIS/ PEO! You'll stay on hold for up to an hour, just to be hung up on and if customer support answers, they NEVER help you right away. They always have to "escalate" the request, no matter how small it may be or they'll ask you to have the employee call. TriNet limits HR professionals and keeps us from getting back to our employees when a simple question cannot be answered. They blame "compliance" for reasons we cannot make changes (that are compliant). It doesn't make sense! read more

I counted on TriNet to be an extension of our company in supporting our employees, as well as supporting our company. They have ridiculously set up processes that can be done with your own in house intern to set up or even an automated HR platform. They have layers and layers of Client service professionals that: 1) Do not get back to you even after requesting updates 2) Pretend they have "approval" processes, and NEVER get anything done 3) Create hurdles for you THEIR CLIENT. 4) THEY DO NOT PROVIDE SOLUTIONS, which in turn creates time, energy, efforts on your part, that you are paying them for! They start off with a great sales pitch and up front benefits (low cost health care and 401k options). It goes downhill from there. To list a few: -Lack of customer service. Understaffed. First line contacts, in some cases, not properly trained. -Difficult to get things done due to many layers and silos internally. -Multiple website glitches. -Clunky user interface and experience. Bigger issues include erroneous employee and company withdrawals for 401k, payroll, etc. They don't seem to take feedback and attempt to resolve any issues. I recommend you do not use them. read more
