First 10 was actually doing a fade. The rest, barely cutting any hair. My fiance was with me and said she saw him literally take scissors and cut the air above the guys head, no hair.

I sat out front of the establishment well past the expected time of my appointment awaiting his arrival. I called the number on the card multiple times and left a message. Nothing, no call back. No 'My apologies, I will be right over." Not even a "Take a hike, I'm not coming." About 45 minutes past the scheduled time I finally gave up. Looks like I avoided the jacked up price he was asking for, but wasted an hour of my time. Do not waste your hour waiting for this guy to not show up. Google reviews shows this not the first time he has done this either.

Both boys cuts were just as I wanted, short and neat, with attention to detail. I've taken them to other shops in the area, but I'm relieved to have found this place. The barbers were young and friendly with my boys and took the time to be nice and chatty with them to keep them distracted. My youngest was quite vocal about his displeasure with sitting still, and he came through it with a smile and a very nice hair cut. Love the lime green barber pole, and the moustached signage. Multiple flat screen TVs with news and sports, not that we needed them, with zero waiting.

She ensured my cut was to my liking and then the magic began... out back there was a dark room of relaxation! This brought the haircut game to a new level; massage chair, hot towels, shampoo, and head massage. I came out rejuvenated and feeling great. I think it was $22 for the haircut and $7 for face shave. Maybe $4 extra for MVP which again was gratis for first time visitors but would absolutely splurge every time.

They really don't care about much, as far as appearance goes... but they are particular about their hair (12 y/o). My one son likes (not sure if I'm saying this correctly) a fade with textured fringe. The other one liked long hair, before discovering the mullet. Went to Joe for fade style, and Doug for mullet. They both treated the boys like clients.. asked exactly what they wanted... made sure they got it. It was nice they listened to them. Never seen barbers (or honestly the $120+ stylists I pay for my daughter and I) spend that much time and care/concern to make sure their client gets exactly what they want. The $ is more than I had been paying prior, but way offset by the quality. They scissor cut both boys hair..lots of time and detail. Very precision cuts, to make sure they got exactly what they wanted. They are very happy! Pretty sure my husband will be heading in next.

After trying a few of the barbers, we learned that Leopold is our favorite and does the best job for us. --Barber recommended: Leopold-- One of my kids always got a fine haircut anywhere we went, but the other has had quite a few weird cuts by professional stylists. I don't know why. Maybe his hair grows in a particularly unusual way? Try LEOPOLD if you, too, have hard-to-cut hair and have suffered elsewhere. --Location & good service-- Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this convenient location and its nice, professional employees. Prior to the pandemic, we would just walk in. After its pandemic reopening, the policy switched to appointment only to reduce crowding. I actually prefer a booked appointment since I dislike waiting, so this worked fine for my family. --COVID specific concern-- Right now, in October 2021, however, we have to find a new barbershop. Though Yelp still lists "masks required" and "staff wear masks" for Montserrat Barber Shop, this was no longer true when my husband went in for a cut last month. Some people in the shop wore masks, but it was clearly now optional as others were bare-faced. (I sincerely hope based upon vaccination status, but my husband did not ask this question.) If you are vaccinated and comfortable to be face-to-face with others indoors without masks, I still recommend this shop. If you are at very high risk for COVID-19 complications in spite of being vaccinated--like a member of our household--hold off on visiting Montserrat Barber Shop until this delta variant surge ends. Since Salem enacted a universal indoor mask mandate, we will search for a temporary hair salon option there (though I sincerely hate setting foot in Salem during the month of October.) As an aside, I wish Yelp and other review sites were more proactive about keeping these vital stats updated. These services offer far less value when facts change and listings go out-of-date.

My hair is WAY shorter than I wanted but I wear hats 90% of the time so I don't really give a crap. However, my beard takes FOREVER to grow and grows in super patchy so I only wanted the tiniest of patches to be trimmed down. Instead this genius shaves me to a bit more than stubble. I NEVER WANTED LENGTH OFF MY WHOLE BEARD. He literally shaved away six months of growth that I never wanted gone. So now I can look forward to months of hair and beard looking terrible, all for the low low price of $60. There is nothing worse than an octogenarian barber who has no regard for customer input and does whatever they want.
