After they took their sweet time letting me in they said the person who was supposed to cut my hair had just randomly left for the day way before my appointment and didn't say anything to them or me about it. Excellent and Friendly Barbers, best Haircut in Hoboken. (note - i've only had my haircut done by Ralph, so that is what my review is will be centered on). I've been going to see Ralph for just about 4 years now. He is the consummate professional. It really seems like every cut i get from him is better then the last... and I say that every time that I come. Every time I come he makes sure everything is to my liking and i leave happy. My barber at my regular place uptown was out on vacation so I decided to check this place out. I went there as a walk-in. If I were rating the place itself, it would get a solid 3.5-low energy, no music. My barber had zero interest in talking to me and the whole experience was just transactional. They don't use shaving cream and I kept getting kicked. Will definitely go back to my barber. The one shining light--they did the best job with my sideburns than any other barber has ever done. Over the past few months, I've had a lot of disappointment with barbers in the area. Barbers who are allergic to scissors and only use the buzzer are the norm so if you aren't getting a skin fade, you're probably getting scalped. Coming here has changed that. I can say without hype, Cynthia is the best barber I've ever been to. I'll put up with the parking in Hoboken to get a haircut from her. Her attention to detail is off the charts and she's fanatical about providing the best customer service that she can. Just a great experience and she is phenomenal at her job. Also, she works Sundays which a HUGE convenience to anyone who rarely gets time during the week or busy Saturdays to schedule in a haircut alongside all of the other errands to be done. Again, because nobody is open in NJ on Sundays, this is the main reason as to how I ended up here as many barbers are closed on this all important errand day for the working professional. They were open, so Cynthia got my business and due to the great work, she has it now for good. read more

John is a good barber. He's probably got 25 years of cutting experience and it shows in his work. He doesn't have the same urban attitude as some barbers there, and it's appreciated. Update: John has since left and last time they gave me a guy who did not want to cut my hair. He stopped to talk to other barbers about shoes, text, and watch the movie on TV during my cut. When he finished, i had to ask to show me the back with the mirror (thought that was standard). He then handed me the mirror and walked away! I just recently moved to Hoboken and was trying to find a good place to get my haircut. If you're looking for a high class yuppie salon then this isn't the place for you. That being said if you are looking for a solid haircut from some good dudes then this is the place to go. I got my hair cut by Carlos, and he claimed to be the least experienced guy there. I'd love to see what the best guy is like. I got one of the best haircuts i have ever had. Carlos took what i asked for and put his own twist on it and it looked great. Be Aware! I came in for a simple shape-up. The guy in the first seat sent me to some guy toward the middle, and I was not worried because it is just a beard clean up and shape up. Wow! I have never been so worried. The guy started to go back and forth with a man who was in the back of the barbershop who was cleaning his own beard up. Best barbershop in the area. Advice: book an appointment ahead of time and find the barber that fits your style then keep booking him. I've been going to D for the last 4 years and haven't had a single bad haircut. Started back in the regular fade and spiked hair days, transitional period to longer slick back and finally settled with full beard and a skin fade pompadour. At least twice a week I have people complementing me on my haircut (and beard trim), asking where I get my haircut. Always tell them book an appoinment with D unless I know or work with them (don't want people I know stealing my style - just saying). D wasn't working once or twice and I needed a trim for an event, tried 3 or 4 other shops in the area (including one that charged me $60 for a cut and a beard trim), nothing compared to the quality at Trim. read more

I'm not surprised that Trim's Yelp rating decreased to 4 stars since the last time I checked a few months ago. I showed up 15 minutes early and my barber wasn't cutting anyone hair. He then stepped out, not acknowledging the six people waiting, which many of the barbers do, so I expected him to be back for our scheduled 6pm. 6:15 comes around and he returns with with food. Thought I'd give him a chance to apologize and get started, but he decided to eat his dinner, again not acknowledging anyone, nor checking in on his 6pm. This is the last time I go to Trim. There are better places in Hoboken that cut hair just as well with MUCH better service. if they continue this way, they'll be out of business just like the other barbershops of the past. I figured I would give this place a try after walking by it for the last few years. Before going over I read the reviews... My suggestion, read through and find a name people recommend. Then call ahead. DO NOT WALK IN. They will literally stick you with the new guy. Very awkward as his conversation is forced and he'll make unwarrented suggestions. The cut wasn't the worst but I was holding my breath the entire cut hoping he didn't screw up. My recommendation for the owners, don't stick walk-ins with the new guy. Got a great haircut from Danny F last week. Did a great job, clearly very skilled at cutting hair. Everyone at this salon is very friendly. 4.5/5 because they are VERY slow sometimes. Come here expecting to possibly wait 30 minutes after your appointment to start, but also expect a great haircut. Danny is very professional. Love the use of neck wraps, shaving oil, straight razor. Very old-fashioned haircut; quality over quantity. I drive from over 30 minutes minutes away because it is such a great haircut. read more

Growing up your parents would take you to the local barbershop that the barber would try to make you feel at home. He would give you a lollipop and make jokes so you didn't cry or move around while he cut your head. As you get older you would start to talk about sports or how much you hated your job (Shop Talk) and your barber would just listen to you. When I moved away I always tried to get that feeling of comfort back with my barber but no one came close. Well Trim has brought that feeling back the owner (D) has made a new style barbershop with a old style touch. With his custom old fashioned barber chairs and hot towels this place brings me back. You get greeted with the most happiest and Lively individual I've ever met. They have a great staff but my barber of choice is Joe he always checks me 3 times just to make sure everything is even before I leave his chair. I had passed this establishment numerous times as it is only a few blocks from home. I decided to go in because my curly haired 2year old was in need of a cut and my regular hairstylist was on vacation. Upon, going in there were three men sitting watching tv and I had to approach and ask if there was anyone available to cut a child's hair. They mumbled and grumbled in Spanish and eventually one stood up and said he'd do it. He took a very fine tooth comb and started ripping my son's dry tangled hair back and forth in an effort to comb thru his hair. He didnt gently untangle his hair or use any product to help with it but instead he yanked and tugged so hard his head was flailing and he almost knocked my son off of the chair. My son started screaming "ouch"and crying so i asked to untangle it myself for him . He stood there and waited and I gave him back the comb once he was fully untangled. He again yanked at my son'shair so hard that he almost pushed him off the chair again and cut a massive chunk on the side without taking measurement or even asking me what type of cut I wanted for him. At this time I asked him to stop and asked if he had any experience with children and he stated that he had a three year old daughter. I asked if he had ever brushed her hair and he said no. I then proceeded to ask the manager for someone with experience with children. The manager came over to him and asked him if he knew kids hair in Spanish and he stated "I could do it but he has bad hair" The manager asked "is your kid moving?" I said "no he's not moving he's watching cartoons. But if he moves I can hold him. I just can't have his head bobbing around like that he has to be more gentle with a child". At this time the manager asked the other stylist if he could do it" and no one answered. He then answered " no one in my salon is going to do his hair he's moving" and walked away from me without saying anything further. I again asked who's going to finish this he already cut some off. A nicer gentleman that worked there and was in the middle of a cut said he could do it but he had other people ahead of him. (There was no one else there)At this point my child was wailing , I felt bad for my crying son who had half a chunk missing from his head so we left. It truly was a HORRIBlE experience! I am Spanish speaking and understand what they say behind your back. Chances are they will do the same to you. The place seems to do well with adults but clearly not a good place for a child with " bad hair". read more

I went in on a Thursday morning with no appointment and was lucky enough to be seated right away with my barber, Frank. Despite only being there for 6 months, Frank did an awesome job with my fade. He was super chill and made sure he understood how I wanted my hair cut, which many barbers fail to do because they are in a rush to get you out the door.
