There are talented barbers at this shop, especially Sydney who was my barber when he was a Junior Barber and became a Regular Barber. I was a client at Mark Daniel Barbershop for over a year and a half - and I always showed up. Earlier this week, I missed an appointment for the first time. Instead of contacting me to reschedule me for later in the evening or the next available day, their system automatically charged me $62.00 for a service I did not receive. I honestly thought it was an accidental automatic charge from their system until I received an email from a different employee writing to me using Mark's email account days later that any appointment I make will be automatically cancelled and that they would prevent me from going back if I did not reverse the dispute. I understand that barbers work on commission, but this was the first appointment I ever missed. The barber's calendar was completely booked for that day anyway so they didn't lose any money. I never purposely missed an appointment, and there was one time last year I had to cancel last minute because of a family emergency - which was months ago and I notified them 2 hours in advance that I couldn't make it - I rescheduled and went to that appointment. There's a way to handle premium clients that consistently show up, and for that reason they lost me as a client. read more

I appreciate a business owner taking that extra step. *original review* I'll start by saying their cancellation policy is clearly stated online, and made visible to anyone who books an appointment with them. It states that if you need to cancel or reschedule you must do so more than 4 hours prior to your appointment, otherwise you will be charged 50% or 100% for no show. I understand the no show side of this, but if you have an unavoidable emergency (like I did) they should show some compassion and waive the 50% fee if you reach out to them and let them know. I get that the barber most likely now has an empty chat and could have had someone else in the seat, but some emergencies are unavoidable. I called, nobody answered - I left a message explaining my situation and that I rescheduled online for another time. Someone called me back and told me they were still going to charge me 50% for the late notice. How dumb is that? They rather get 50% of my money one time, rather than 100% (plus tips) every 3-4 weeks for the foreseeable future. Pretty dumb business model if you ask me. I obviously cancelled my future appointment and will never be going back. read more

I've been coming here for several years now and I couldn't say anything negative about any experience here. Always a good chat with the guys and always so welcoming with a shot of whiskey or espresso. I look forward to coming here and feeling so fresh when I leave. However, the several price increases are pushing this out of my already expanded haircut budget. Prices are going up another $5 in a few weeks and this upcoming visit might be my last. $73 for a basic men's haircut, including tip is a bit rich for me. read more

This is a great place. After having my hair cut by the same person for 20 years, I felt very nervous when they decided to retire. I decided to give this place a shot and booked an appointment with Mike. Everybody inside is so nice, and both the front desk guy and Mike offered me a drink. Mike knows what he's doing and he cuts your hair with concentration and precision. I have medium length, thick hair and he does a great job. Highly recommend. read more

I have never gotten a haircut this expensive but I thought it was worth it. It was $40 haircut plus tip. I had this girl who cut my hair pretty quickly but did a good job. One thing to make sure you do is book an appointment since it is difficult to just walk in and get a cut. Another cool thing is they will give you a whiskey or a drink while waiting. The service and haircut was pretty solid. I guess this is a new era where you need appointments for haircuts but I kind of like the structure. Overall, this place is pretty cool. I have been getting a haircut here for over a year now and this review has been a long time coming! My barbers have been Mark, Justin, and Bill. First off their team are always on time with their appointments which has been horror from other shops in the past. You're greeted with a tiny beverage which is a nice touch when you first arrive. I love the shop talk! It's always interesting or funny to either listen or partake in. I always come in with a few pictures and they always mold it to my hair/headshape to create an outstanding haircut every time. The haircuts are consistent too which is a major plus!!! I love the hot towel shave for the shape up since I have a beard. Last but least, I have a full beard that is always a few months long which can be a challenge for some but not here. Last night was my first time there. I went with Justin however I'm confident that I could have gotten the same quality haircut with the other barbers that work there. I am glad that I found my new go-to barbershop. 5/5 due to.. 1. Extremely friendly staff. Was offered drinks and whiskey the moment I walked in. The entire staff engaged in a great conversation. 2. Easy to book an appointment. Justin was very professional when it came to maintaining the start/end time of my appointment (without feeling rushed). 3. Quality of haircut. Like the most of us, I hate switching barbers. The anxiety is unbearable. Depending on your previous hair cutting experiences will determine how you perceive this establishment. My overall rating is ultimately based upon the cut. I gave it a 3 as it was a quick haircut which only cost $30 or so dollars. The old adage "you get what you pay for" The barber used clippers initially which is fine but the scissor cut wasn't good. It initially looked okay but when I got home and had a shower and combed my hair, there were long bits sticking out. 10 days later and haircut really hasn't settled well. The location is somewhat difficult to park if you're driving. But overall the shop is a good clean place, and the team are nice, and it has a little bit of atmosphere. read more

Although I can't always convince myself to pay $40 (before tip) for a cut, I often find myself paying it when I need a quality cut. Michael is incredible and pays such close attention to your hair. We've been to both shops in Hoboken and Jersey City and LOVE! The owner is super down-to-earth and everyone is so talented. My son's haircut always comes out pristine and we love the shop atmosphere. You can tell a ton of thought and care has been taken in creating a space that gives you the ultimate barbershop experience. When i first walked into "the shop" i thought it was circa 1950. The nostalgic chairs, hot lather machine and master barber Mark seemed like its been here in hoboken since Sinatra. Speaking of celebrities let me first tell you i went in looking like Zack Galifianakis and left looking like Bradley Cooper. His skill level with clippers and scissor are the very best ive ever experienced. At this point i had to go for the hot shave right? Well i have sensitive skin and havent been able to get a close shave since my 8th grade dance. Been here several times now and every time has been top notch. I have been, for the better part of a decade, getting chronically disappointed with the cuts I get. 1 woman, in the past 15 years, can I recall good enough to request again at any place I've been. This place though, I am happy to say I could sit in any seat and be confident with the cut. They do a great job, even down to the straight-razor fading. I trusted the barbers at markdaniel to do the job. Let's just say that my barber bill and the staff at this fine establishment made me feel welcome everyone I come in. At the end of the day it is the best haircut you will get in Hoboken with someone who cares about the finished product. Once you come here you will never have to go anywhere else. The owner, Mark, treats every customer like a VIP and makes sure you have the best experience possible. One of the 1st things I noticed is the amount of light that comes into the space. It is refreshing to have natural light and not be pushed into some back corner with bad lighting. They greet you at the door and offer you shot or if an expresso is your thing they have that also. I was someone who went from going to SuperCuts (budget) on Washington to one of those fancy hairstylists in the city. Eventually the stylist became ridiculously expensive and I came back to Hoboken to get my haircuts. That is where I met Mark and have followed him into NYC and now back again to Hoboken. I guess you can say I am a groupie at this point. Haha He takes complete pride in his work and has such attention to detail. He cleans up neck with a straight razor which makes me feel I am in 1950's which is awesome and my favorite part is the hot towel at the end. Nice to see something other than a nail salon or bar open up in uptown Hoboken. I live just a block away and have mostly been going to Hoboken Hair. They do a decent job but I figure I should give the new guys a shot. Always want to support local businesses, especially good ones. My 4 year old son and I both needed hair cuts. Bill cut my son's hair and Mark did mine. They don't have a cutesy kids chair or video setup like some other places but they'll spend a lot more time and attention to your kids haircut than anywhere else in Hoboken. Bill put in just as much effort into my son's haircut as he would an adult. I'm sick of going to these hair salons and barbers in Hoboken who don't really put much effort into the kids haircuts. If you've got a mature kid who knows how to sit still in a barber's chair, he'll get a better cut here than anywhere else in Hoboken. I was also very pleased with my haircut. Most white guys don't know how to cut Asian hair. Mark did a pretty good job with mine. This may sound silly but I was really drawn to the ambiance of the barber shop. The interior design is very classic, refined and would look great in a photoshoot for a design magazine. I asked Mark about it and he did it all himself, which is pretty impressive. Mark has been cutting my hair for a little bit over a year. He is an awesome barber. He never rushes a cut and ALWAYS sweats the small stuff. I was very excited when he decided to open up shop a couple blocks away from my apartment. The shop is spotless and well decorated. It has a classic feel. Walking in the door makes you feel like you're going back in time. On top of that there is whiskey and espresso on tap. What could be better? Great new barbershop just opened in the neighborhood and I stopped in to check it out today because I needed a haircut. The shop is super clean and fresh with white walls and old barber chairs. It just has a nice classic feel. The experience starts off with a whiskey or espresso and Mark takes his time to make sure you get a precision cut and then it ends with a razor clean up and minty hot towel. $30 for the cut.
