Took my 2006 Trailblazer because the A/C stopped working and it was closing time so I asked Joe if he can check if there is still freon in the system and he verified that there is still good pressure which would mean no leak. So he gave me a worst case scenario quote which was replacing the compressor but was also very flexible on accepting my proposal for me to buy the parts so I can save money, it turned out to be a bad a/c belt tensioner which save me a ton of $$$. This place is a scam, do not come here! I had just gotten my car checked out the previous day from another place to make sure everything was working on my car and they said everything was working fine and in order. So I came here to trident to get my car smogged and it did not pass. The funny part is though that my car came in without a check engine light on and then it somehow got one, when they were inspecting my car causing it to fail. To top it all off they still told me that I had to pay, even though my car failed. I have never in all my years had to pay for a smog that failed a vehicle. They should warn their customers that they will be wasting their hard working money on a failed smog, instead of just pointing to a sign on the wall after it's too late. Yes, cuz every customer reads every single sign in a store when they walk in. So heed this warning, so the same does not happen to you as it did to me. read more

I recently arrived at a competitor's shop 10 minutes prior to their closing time and they refused to service me despite not having any smog tests in progress. After trying to persuade them to reconsider, it was now 4pm and I called Trident who also closed at 4pm but were willing to await my arrival and perform my test. Additionally, their business was clean, had a comfortable waiting room and they provided a free beverage while the test was in progress. This place is not a good place for a smog I paid 59.75 for my car not to pass a smog. usually place gives you a retest or if you fail you dont pay well this place is all about money. they ran a smog and it says emissions failed they want to charge me a diagnosis for 125.00 instead of letting me know what needs to be fixed most smog places will tell you what needs to be fixed not run a diagnostics there out to rip people off I even called twice to ask questions and they acted like they dont have time for questions. read more

I went to this place to get what should have been a simple smog check and pass. The guy says my car needed to be reset to take the smog test properly along with some other small repairs. That gets done and then he says that i need to drive the car at least 60 miles for 30 min straight to heat something up enough to prepair it for the test, like my car needs to study for this damn thing. I had to go so far out of my way to do this. I come back it IT STILL DOESN'T TAKE! This is all over the course of weeks. This led to my liscense plates expiring, car getting towed, then paying $1600 to get out. After all that I decide to give it one last go. Such a huge mistake. Drove to ventura beach and it broke... down. Nothing on this earth can describe my rage at this point. Got a ride back to town and had my car towed by AAA to their body shop IN VENTURA. they say the car needs $1200 to replace the catalytic converter. I paid 2 grand for the car and there is no way im paying 2800 just to keep it. Granted the car had 200k miles on it when i got it but i expected to put at least another 50k before it bit the dust but i barely made it to 6. the mechanic even said during the process "Sometimes you get a 500 dollar car and put 5 grand in it to fix it." Should have noticed that huge red flag but i was in the middle of it all and being super stressed out from this ordeal. I went in for a smog check today, and while it was being performed, I could see everything was passing. After the test was completely passed, the service rep kept telling me to update different parts of the car that I didn't need to update. I kept refusing, and he got angry with me and said that if I don't change the parts, he's going to fail our test. I then watched as he overrode the system and changed one of my passes to say that it was tampered with. I confronted him about the change, and he said, "Yes, I did this on purpose, and maybe you shouldn't come here again." It felt very discriminatory and like I was being attacked for refusing additional services. read more

I'm an older mechanic from years ago, and hardly ever review negatively. I came for a simple smog, it failed. They quoted me an astronomical price, so I had it repaired elsewhere. They told me to bring it back for re test at NO CHARGE. 1st return after my repairs,They sent me away without testing and said I need to reset the codes and drive at least 100miles before retesting, OK. I had another shop clear the monitors (FOR FREE) a simple task, brought it back and I was going to be charged another $40. He refused to honor THE NO CHARGE to retest, he denied saying that. He also said he could of fixed my car cheaper which is another lie based on his original quote. He never remembers who you are even after three visits. He tries to nickel and dime you for every little thing. I finally left in an argument when I refused to hand over another $40 and he threatened me, I will file a report. I'm very mechanically inclined and the only thing I could think of is all the people he has taken advantage of. Found a new great place and I will be happy to (highly) recommend. The new place cheered me up by giving me a "welcome to your new family mechanic "discount. The past positive reviews for this place are for smog test that have past. its just a machine which takes no intelligence to use the machine. He said he doesn't work for free and wants to be paid like a doctor. I had to place this review and do my part to warn others. I rely on reviews myself and weed through negative reviews which are not warranted. There are too many inconsistencies with this shop. I'm very easy going and not an over complainer. Best car mechanic business I have ever used. They have a comfortable lounge with an HDTV and Netflix. They also offer free sodas too. Overall I found myself hanging out there longer than I expected because I started watching season 4 of breaking bad. Lol Also unlike most mechanic shops, the bathroom isn't some disgusting greasy hole. It's actually really nice and clean. Better than my own bathroom. Lol The smog check only took 10 minutes without an appointment and they helped me right away. I will be going back here for all my future smogs and car maintenance. I took my car in for a smog test based on the 5 star reviews, which I should know better but I digress. I was on my lunch break and decided to trust this place to get a smog test. Well, my car has a yellow service engine soon (SES) light on and the reason that light came on was back 2 years ago, my gas cap was stolen and I unknowingly drove for more than a few minutes without a gas cap. Guess what? A code of P0442 came on my dash and the yellow SES light came on as well at the same time with a open gas tank door symbol. I bought a new gas cap and a friend told me that I will need to delete the code before getting a smog test, but that was almost two years ago and I didn't let it bother me. When I walked into the shop, they quoted me $69 for a smog, which I thought was a bit too pricey, but I was going to ask for a discount and I just wanted to get this test over and move on. Well, he runs the test and gives me a report showing everything passed but the SES light with the P0442 code was still present. I explained to him why I had that code appear but he tried to make it seem to me that the code was something more serious than a loose gas cap code. I googled the code on my cell in front of him and showed him what that code means (it means a loose gas cap is the most likely reason) and I asked him if he could reset the code and let me come back for a retest and he said no. He then pulled out a ODB reader and I asked him if he could reset it with that machine and he said no, that I have to leave the car for a diagnostic, which would cost me $125. I read people very well and knew this guy was being shady. I went back to my office, googled and found that a $14 ODB 2 reader from Walmart can erase the code and for my car model, in particular, this code is usually due to a loosely capped gas cap and nothing mechanical (usually). I reset it with the ODB2 reader I bought from Walmart and I am now looking to see why I ended up paying their "discount" rate of $49.75 when I'm looking at smog places that charge $19.95 with a coupon. I felt like I was ripped off and I know he tried to mislead me. I would not trust himagain. read more

Had no clue the owner changed, but since I came to this location before and had good experience, decided to give another shot. Came here last October for smog check. Decided to just drive in without checking, but no one was there at the time. They got my car in right away. Of course, at this time, my car decided to show check engine light, which turned out to be a pressure issue with transmission. Didn't pass. At least Yelp had coupon for massive discount. Guy working actually reminded me if I had coupon, in which he directed me to the Yelp. That was nice gesture. He was very careful with my car driving it in & out and placing the test equipments. Awful customer service. After performing smog check, failed to send it electronically to dmv. After calls, still didn't send. The certificate expired and we needed to re-smog. Called them to explain what happened and the agent was so rude and said "not their problem" and hung up.
