I went on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago to check it out based on all of the reviews I've read on Yelp. The decor of the bar is great and the doormen holding open the doors for you as you enter and exit is a nice touch. There are lots of sitting areas both in the main room, the raised main area and even in the next room (which I learned is how you get to Suzy Wong's). And yes....the bartenders are definitely attractive. On the night that I went they were doing a rendition of the old "Post Office" game, which everyone was able to play.....for a $5.00 fee. In their defense the fee enabled you to get into Play next door for free. Now for the deduction of the two stars. During my stay an announcement was made that if you paid the $5.00 to play "Post Office" you could get in for free. What wasn't said was that you needed to obtain a pass to actually get into Play for free, and I didn't find out until I actually went next door and was told (rather rudely, but that's in my Play review) about it. Furthermore, I didn't find the people here really friendly. I found the clientele to be rather cliquish and not wanting to start up a conversation, even when approached. There were one or two people there that were friendly, but overall I did not sense the friendliness and didn't feel welcomed there. Granted I'm not expecting the red carpet to be rolled out or everyone to shout "WELCOME!" at the top of their lungs, but a few of the mean "what-the-hell-are-you-looking-at" looks weren't necessary. Would I go back? Don't know. Maybe that particular Friday was an off night. read more

I have been going to Tribe for several years to watch RuPauls Drag Race and quite enjoyed it until this year. Recently they forced patrons to listen to racist diatribe by a house queen during the show. I love going to Tribe whenever I have a chance. One, the service and drinks are pretty good. And two, it is always great to see that random protester that has a sign that says, "Let's put the CHURCH back into Church Street!". Makes a young lady giggle I might say. I would have to say this is not my first choice for dancing. The music and scene at PLAY is much better for that. Tribe is a much better place to grab a drink and talk to some people. This place may not be what you think of when you think of a gay bar. That may be good or bad, depending on your perspective, but Tribe is definitely a mainstay of the Nashville gay scene. I think the place is laid back and friendly. Some guys find it a little uptight. I think it depends what you are looking for. Since gay bars are usually frequented by a particular segment of gays (bears, twinks, leather), it may not be your cup of tea. Personally, I think it's both classy (not a backroom kind of place) and laid back. I'm not usually going there to pick anyone up, just to enjoy a beer or two with friends (or just people watch). This is the first gay bar I ever went in, so I have a little soft spot for it, but it definitely stands up on its own merits. Really friendly bartenders (Loy, Stevn, Heath) who will all get to know you and your drink if you come in often. It's a video bar so there's music always thumping. Lots of theme nights (Madonna, Prince) and parties (Memorial Day, 4th of July) as well. The bar and adjoining restaurants definitely support and give back to the community which is great. Beer on tap (including the recent addition of Blue Moon), drink specials, musical sing-alongs on Sunday, tv showings, no cover charge!..there's a lot going on at Tribe. Oh, and thankfully Tribe decided to go no-smoking which is great...smokers you can go outside to the patio to light up. Since Nashville seems to be losing its gay bars at an alarming rate, I encourage everyone to come out and support Tribe (and the other bars that are left). Came here to continue my birthday celebration and enjoyed it. The place was modern, clean, and had nice strong drinks. The bartender was quick to serve us and we had a cozy table with a nice view of the bar and of what I presumed to be a dance floor. We didn't stay long, but I enjoyed my drink and the venue itself. Would definitely come back at a later hour to see how crazy it gets. read more

Like it's sister establishment next door, Play, Tribe is easily one of the nicest gathering spots in the city, regardless of your scene. It's obvious as soon as you walk in the door that the owners set out to impress. The staff is always friendly and also easy on the eye. You will easily find a good crowd on the weekend. The music videos range from the 70's to current, and the VJ's are great about making requests. It helps to tip them! Wednesday night is traditionally the busiest night during the week because of the great drink specials-- it's colloquially referred to as "Welfare Wednesday". Their Sunday Showtunes night is equally well attended. After a weekend of fun, I've often relaxed on the mezannine and held court on Sunday. It's a relaxed evening with the VJ showing musical clips from television and movies, in addition to traditional musical clips. It's always fun to be in the middle of a room of strangers singing happily together-- there is a built-in comradery. Other nights there are fun too-- trivia, comedy night and karaoke. A good friend refers to Tribe as our "country club" and I couldn't agree more. read more

Came on a Monday night for the drag show and it was so much fun! The bartenders are super friendly and great. It was a pretty diverse crowd and there were a good amount of people there for a Monday. The interior is very modern and classy. It seems pretty large so it must be fun on Fridays & Saturdays too. Will never forget the moment when the power went out in the middle of the show and all the drag queens freaked out hahaha. read more

We would have loved to try Tribe on a night that was more hype because after reading the reviews and really looking forward to going here, we were sorely disappointed. The space is cool, I'm sure the fun nights can be a blast but we got there around 10pm on a Friday night and it was pretty much dead with 80s music. Bartenders and staff were not very attentive and moving very slowly, albeit they poured us some super stiffies. Sure, it's a local spot but there wasn't much of a vibe to follow and after trying to sip down our one drink, we left and went next door to Play where we had a MUCH better time! Don't get me wrong, I love a chill, lounge-y vibe but Tribe that night wasn't even close to that and just felt so void and lackluster in a lot of aspects. If you just want to go sit at the bar and stare at decent looking bartenders though, I recommend! read more

I get the feeling that Nashville gays like their one-stop shops. I appreciated the fact that you could visit the restaurant, the video bar, the pool table, the smoking room, the non-smoking room, etc. all in one place. The clientele was very diverse, but on a Friday night, maybe the space was too big for the number of people present. It seemed kind of empty. One thing I like about Nashville is that there is a strip, where there are a lot of gay establishments near each other. One bar on this strip is called Tribe. I had never been before, so we decided to check it out. It has an upscale feel about it. I saw a little diversity in the population in race and in age. The drinks were good. If you feel like being in a classier place, this is the place for you. They were having some event called post office, in which you wear a number and people write you anonymous messages. We didn't participate since we are both in relationships. Interesting idea, though. The game was hosted by some drag queens. The bartender was friendly. Next door, they have a drag'n brunch. I'd like to try that next time I'm in Nashville. I think it may be the same owner, since you could get to one from the other, and it was being advertised in Tribe. read more

Gonna write the same review as I did for PLAY because I went to both places in one night ... So much fun! I may have had one of the best times I have ever had at this venue! (Play/Tribe) ... DJ is great .. dance floor is hoppin .. people are pretty and the drag shows are the best thing ever! Bartenders are all nice and it's in a great location (NOT DOWNTOWN). Only gripe is cover is a little steep ... I'm a girl .. this is a gay club .. so an $8 cover for OVER 21 on a FRIDAY ?! Fridays aren't "going out" nights in Nashville .. I think it should be $5. Four stars for WiFi and an not 100 percent offensive drink . I ordered an adios m f . Which wasn't good but not horrible either. It was what it was . The bartender did nothing wrong . I just learned I can no longer drink drinks made with artificial dye . Adios m f s are essentially the same as Long Island iced teas with the exception that you use sprite instead of coke and blue curaçao instead of triple sec . Overall typical bar experience as you have to go up to the bartender order pay and bring the drink back to your table . The dj was a okay playing typical thumpa thumpa you hear at average gay clubs / bars . Decor was average . Customer service average . They have coat / bag check for security purposes so be aware of that . Overall happy I stopped by here as it was one of the cheaper venues I attended price wise . Drink cane out to be only $9 and I'm assuming that includes the ridiculous 15 percent tax you pay on top of the regular local tax . read more

Hmm, I wasn't wowed. I honestly didn't expect amazing things from a gay bar in Nashville, and Tribe definitely met those expectations nicely. It's not so much the bar's fault. The venue was spacious, decorated well enough, and had a huge bar with strong, reasonably priced drinks. But the place was DEAD. I mean, my group of four was the largest group in there by far. I think we actually came close to doubling the number of patrons in the place on a Friday night. It seems to speak more to Nashville as a city, as I met plenty of gay people out at "straight" bars, while the actual gay bars were basically empty. Tribe is fun. I've had a blast every time I've been here. My friends always tries to get me to go on Thursdays, when they have a $5 Absolut martini night (any flavor you want, apparently). The atmosphere is definitely gay bar, but it's an open and friendly one and they don't mind having girls or straight guys around. The bartenders often bartend in just their bare chests and I'm told on Saturday nights, just their tighty-whities, so if you're into that sort of thing... The decor is appropriately tasteful and trendy, as you would expect, and it looks like there are many fun things going on. The music ranges from techno-dance to musicals (they have a musical night thing on Sundays I believe) and of course they play old standards like Madonna and Depeche Mode. read more

When my gay friend invited me check out Tribe, I had in my head the Skybar in Miami as a reference for comparison, when I got inside it is nothing like a Skybar or even LIV. It looks like a 'brew house' with old school classroom like furnishings and seriously, i have never seen so many white men in one place, yes, i realized this is predominantly a Gay bar, but then again this is Nashville where diversity is miniscule. Tribe is perfect for so many occassions! I particularly love the Sunday afternoon showtunes singalong, with cheap pitchers and very cheap long islands. The singing can get loud, but it's such a fun time. Be sure to bring tip money for the DJ, or your favorite rendition of Don't Cry for me won't get airtime. It's also the perfect spot for a night cap after a tasty meal at Suzy Wong's. We recently did the Tribe and Play event for New Year's, and while Play is fun, I much prefer the low key, friendly and comfy atmosphere at Tribe. read more

Tribe is a very attractive place. It's nice that there's real food available on the premises as well. The bartenders have always been fairly friendly and attentive as well. The only caveat is that, in my opinion, it's best to visit Tribe in a group because it has always seemed somewhat difficult to strike up a conversation with anyone else. It seems that most people are part of groups and really don't chat with others, even others sitting at the very large and attractive bar. I've heard that late at night, it's not always that way. I admit that most of my visits have been at happy hour or a little later, so maybe I'll give it a try sometime nearer the witching hour. :-) read more

This is by far one of my favorite places in Nashville. It is a "gay bar" but that doesn't mean that you have to be gay to go in and enjoy yourself. It is very casual, yet quite upscale at the same time. Even the smokers are not relegated to freezing in some outside corner. The staff is very good (Brandon is a great waiter) and the drinks are great (check out TJ, he makes some of the best!). I highly recommend Tribe for meeting some people and having a good evening out. read more

I went to Tribe on a Tuesday night wanting to do an lgbt karaoke night. I did my first song fine but then the drag queen purposely gave me an edited track to sing to. Every time i was about to do a big high note, it just skipped to the chorus. Not really an issue if you dont notice that every time she had to sing, the tracks worked just fine. If she does not know how to work the dj booth or the establishment is too cheap to afford the right tracks, i will gladly take my karaoke & drinking dollars elsewhere. As for the atmosphere, it is ok... bartenders are eh and the clientele are rather homely too. I would recommend going elsewhere for hot guys to talk to. Tribe is definitely my favorite bar in Nashville, and a staple for the gay community here. The crowd and energy fluctuates just as much as a gay boy's hair, some Friday nights you're touching butts with everyone, while other Friday nights you could claim half the building as yours and no one would argue. The bartenders are cute, but they do treat gay men a lot differently then gay chicks. I've taken several of my gay male friends with me, and they seemed to always get stronger drinks and more freebies, so I almost never leave home without one (gay boy, that is). They're always playing good music, and can be anything from techno to show tunes. (They always play show tunes on Sunday nights, which is always fun). This is just a really good place to hang out and enjoy a few drinks with your friends, and it's classy, not seedy as some other gay bars I've been to. read more

Tribe is a great place to get a drink for just about anyone (who is OK with the fact that it's a gay bar). Definitely more gay men than anyone else, but its not exclusive! On any given night you can see straight couples, gay couples, straight singles, hodge podge groups, etc. The set up inside is pretty great and you should be able find somewhere to hang out that makes you happy. Whether it's the main bar, back bar, bar tables by the dance floor, group tables, or outdoor patio, it's definitely a great place to do the usual bar rounds. If you look friendly and are sitting at the bar expect someone to chat you up; you have not idea how many hysterical conversations I have had with gay boys who have left me mid sentence to chase someone more their type! Though the dance floor is not usually food, those that do cut a rug are usually ridiculously amusing. read more

First off..anyone can go to tribe. Its just a great place for a cocktail. The place is a large video bar. They have a smoking bar and a non smoking bar. The bartenders are usually lame and the drinks arent that strong unless you get the right bartender. They have really cool events and its a great place to go out if you dont feel like getting all sweaty...on the dance floor that is. Have fun kids. read more
