Robert's Western World is the real deal for traditional country music. The 4 of us hung out here for a couple hours one morning to hear Joshua Hedley and the Hedliners, twang their way into old time honky-tonk souls. There's a row of boots on the wall, which I think is for display only and a call out to the time when they actually sold boots here. This historic building itself feels like a shotgun (long and narrow) and apparently once served as a Civil War warehouse and later the Sho-Bud Steel Guitar Company. To prolong our stay, we ordered cheeseburgers and beer (fries and onion rings were extra) for brunch. I tried to interest folks in their $6 "Recession Special" - A grilled or fried bologna sandwich piled high, with a bag of potato chips, a Moon Pie, and a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) beer, but got no takers. We sat up on the balcony, which we had all to ourselves and with a nice view to the main floor below. Our waitresses were down home friendly, hard working, and good at what they were doing. Wow! Just Wow! We saw a fantastic 3 piece here! A guy with a base, a drum set and a Stratocaster and they tore the roof off the place! Not difficult to get a drink here, which was surprising given the massive crowd. It's a narrow, cool spot with a tiny stage and it all just works! What a fantastic time we had here! This was probably my favorite honky tonk of all the bars I visited along Broadway (and no, I didn't go into all of them). It's small and doesn't have a DJ or 73,000 people crammed onto the rooftop bar. In fact, it doesn't even have a rooftop bar, or even an accessible rooftop. It does have a smallish second floor. The live band was great during our visit. There were no seats available downstairs so we planted ourselves upstairs and enjoyed the music, the drinks, and the food. Of course, we had to get the "Recession Special" (fried bologna sandwich, chips, moon pie, and a PBR, all for $6). Honestly, I could have easily devoured two complete specials but I am currently watching my girlish figure. The sandwich was good and much better than you might think. The drinks are strong here and the prices are reasonable. It's small, intimate, has great live music, strong drinks, and good bologna. Loved this spot! We had a late lunch at a dive bar and asked the server where he thought we should go next. He said Robert's Western World, so off we went! The environment is fantastic, the prices are great and the staff and music will keep you coming back. We entered this bar because it did not look as crowded as all the other bars we passed but I was completely wrong! I didn't realize how big this place was. This was similar to another bar we visited but I did like this one better. Upon entering, I immediately felt the liveliness. The band was playing good music and crowd reflected that. I mean you gotta experience it! Certainly wasn't our 'go to music' but a legend of a bar, with honky tonk music playing, some cool dancing going on, we really enjoyed the experience. Over our 4 nights we probably popped in a few times, but one time on Sunday afternoon, needed grub, we headed over for cheaper beer (2.50 for M.H.L or PBR) and a $10 burger. If you're looking for a real Honky-Tonk this is the place to go! Robert's Western World is located in the historic district on Broadway. This family run business just celebrated its 25th anniversary. It delivers an authentic old-timey atmosphere with live classic country music that plays all day & all night - plus there's a dance floor. The musician that was playing when I was there was very good & played lots of requests. As with most places on Broadway there is not a cover charge, so bring plenty of tip money for the band. The walls are filled with country western memorabilia, even a wall of western boots. (In the beginning Robert's was a western boot & clothing store.) Robert's is the home of "The Recession Special". This "Special" is special & fun! The sandwich came with lots of fried bologna, (don't knock it until you've tried it) plus mayo, lettuce & tomato, a bag of chips, Moon Pie for dessert & a cold can of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. All for $6! The sandwich was awesome, frying the bologna gives it almost a smoky flavor. It's hard to describe, but I certainly recommend giving it a try. Robert's is the place to visit! This is according to pretty much everyone I talked to in Nashville. It's one of the many honky-tonks on Broadway, and judging from the wall-to-wall crowd inside, it's definitely one of the most popular. It was a crush of people from one end to the other. If you don't tolerate brushing up against people or screaming your order at a crowded bar, this place isn't for you. Like all of the honky-tonks on Broadway in Nashville, there's no cover to enter. But, if you like what you're hearing and experiencing, tips for the bands/performers are welcome. I don't have a loud voice at all, so when I screamed my order at the busy yet unflappable bartender, I didn't expect her to hear my beer request on the first go. But she did! And she delivered it to me right away like a pro. There's a second floor inside Robert's, and if you're willing to elbow your way up there, it's worth it. The second story seemed a little less crowded, and I got a good view of the band. But no matter where you are inside Robert's, it's going to be loud, so don't expect to come here and be able to catch up with your friends. I was sitting right next to a friend and had to yell in order for him to hear me. But that's just as well at a place like this. You don't come to Robert's for the peace and quiet -- you come for the music and booze. read more
