I recently became a patient of Dr. Q in May. I was prescribed Fosamax and after 2 months developed multiple severe side effects. I called the office 3 times seeking advise with no follow-up. I went to the ER 2 nights in a row receiving 9 hrs of medical testing. I called again when I was back in town. No return call. This is the most unprofessional Dr and practice I have even dealt with. Dr DURAN was so incredibly RUDE and dismissive of me that I am SHOCKED she is in the medical profession. I was referred to her from my general practitioner. She failed to contact me after blood and urine work was done and I was told she couldn't give me results over the phone - I had to come into the office for an apt. When I finally did meet with her, it was clear she hadn't even reviewed the results, or even remember why I was there. She was absolutely awful! When I had questions about out of normal range testing results. She practically kicked me out of her office and told me to go find a general practitioner. The GP is the one that sent me! I honestly don't know where to start with this office. The front the back staff or Duran and her sidekick Karen. This office is a hurricane. The front is non productive you call them to relay a message and I feel it gets lost somewhere. Karen is nice but she doesn't know what she's doing since she was asking me what dosage I want to take? I don't know what dosage I should be on...I'm the patient you are the provider so you are supposed to tell me. That was a red flag for me. Then I met with Duran and wow. Another incompetent in the field of medicine. She turned my appointment into a therapy session. It was the weirdest most awkward endocrinology apt I have ever had in 20 years. The other red flag is the doctor doesn't follow up with blood work she throws you on to the nurse practitioner, then what are you there for? She doesn't return messages on MyChart or phone calls. A word of advice for this doc is when a patient calls to follow up it's professional to call your patients back if you really do care for your patients and your so called profession. This place is not professional. I honestly didn't feel taken care of. My dogs vet takes better care of their animals than I felt at this office. That's the sad truth. read more

I was experiencing hair loss after several surgeries in the last year and wanted to see an endocrinologist to get my body back in line hormonally. After being recommended to Dr Q and also my primary sending a referral to be seen by said doctor, I was denied being seen. Not just denied, but given some sloppy excuse as to why he can't see me. I've never in my life experienced being denied by a doctor who accepts private insurance. What an unkind practice. Stay away! read more

I will not be going back to this office ever again. I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Duran to discuss my blood results and possibly get an ultrasound completed on my thyroid due to previous history of thyroid cancer. They called to reschedule me (which is totally fine), but I did ask if she could call me to discuss the results of the blood tests as I was basically waiting to see if there were any cancer indicators. They said they left a message with her and she will call once back in the office. That was a week ago, and I have called the office multiple times asking for her to call me and she still has not gotten back to me. In addition, I called their office awhile ago because I was having heart palpitations and while I did get a call back they did not address this issue and did not appear to be concerned. I think maybe Dr. Duran doesn't have enough time or maybe the receptionists are not letting her know that patients have questions. I would say overall they have bad patient care and would not recommend anyone go there. I am a younger patient that previously had thyroid cancer, and they do not care at all. read more

I went to Dr. Q due to the recommendation of my primary physician. I have PCOS, diagnosed almost 2 years ago but had never actually had any hormone panels or blood tests done. I was gaining weight like crazy for no particular reason, and my girl times had just stopped out of the blue. Firstly, I told him I didn't want children, ever. However, since I am paranoid about pregnancy I WANT to have my periods. He belittled my desire to have periods, stating that the only reason to have one is because of fertility. I felt like he was making fun of me. It isn't as if I don't KNOW that it's OK to not have a period, but it's my choice to want to have them, which is part of why I even went to see him in the first place, since he specializes in hormones! I'm 25, I didn't come to be berated like a child about my choices or have them called "silly". Secondly, I asked if since my PCOS was becoming worse, if my thyroid functioning might be affected leading to my weight gain (something my primary had suggested might be the case). He took an ultrasound and told me I had nodules and cysts, and quite a large number of them. Of course I freaked out- but he had no sympathy at all. He insisted they were benign. I asked how could he possibly know that if he didn't biopsy? He had no answer. I went in for my blood panel that he had me get, and I never got a call when they got the results. A nurse or someone else called and left me a message 4 weeks later saying that the results were in and they were all NORMAL, and to call the office to have Dr. Q explain them anyway(?) Called a few times, they never picked up. Not worth the hassle this guy will give you. read more

Dr. Q is definitely one of the vest endocrinologists in the Bay Area. I went in for a biopsy and his attention to detail was astounding. He thoroughly explained everything to me in detail, and took his time to make sure I understood everything. I did a lot of research on him and found that his credentials were excellent. He's highly sought after as a thought leader in diabetes. I can definitely sense he cares about his patients as he took much care in me. Much appreciated. His office staff was super friendly and professional. I can tell he runs a tight ship around the office. Kudos for that. I typically don't write reviews for doctors unless they're bad experiences, but he deserves the recognition. read more

I started to see Dr Q 2 years ago, I find him to be a very caring and compassionate man he takes time to explain what's going on with my thyroid. It took about six months to get the correct dosage but we are now there and only require a yearly check up. I have to say that the receptions are always very helpful and polite I have also never had a issue with the phone being answered. I have seen dr kazemi around during my appointments and also find him to be very polite, funny because he was the doctor initially recommended by a friend but his list was full. read more

Dr. Qoubaitary is a wonderful endocrinologist. Fortunately I transferred over to this office which is very convenient and close to my work which made appointments and labs much easier. He is a super caring provider and I've been seeing him for over a year now for my thyroid issues. He responds to messages very very quickly and is always listens and provides sound advice. He is very friendly and thorough with the examinations and giving blood results. Highly recommend him for anyone with thyroid issues that needs constant monitoring and good quality care! read more

Update to my initial review: While the receptionist might not have her (enter expletive here) together, I'm very happy with the facility and the doctor. Dr. Duran was very thorough and took time to explain things to me/answer my questions. I feel that she's attentive and wants to order the correct tests that are necessary to develop a full prognosis. So I waited on hold for over 20 minutes to talk to someone, then they closed, and they left me on hold. The 1 star is for the front office receptionists, especially Nicole. They should learn how to smile and greet the patients who are ill, and why they need to go in and see Dr. Q. in the first place. I was terminated as a patient of this practice because I refused to submit to a medical procedure - a follow up ultrasound. Here's the background: first, I had a thyroid ultrasound, and then - a biopsy which was negative. A few weeks later, I received a call that I needed to get a follow up ultrasound because there is a 3 percent false negative rate on the biopsy. I did not think it was necessary to do the follow up u/s - especially such a short time later. I informed Dr. K and his staff that I did not want or see the need for the u/s. Within a week, I received a letter - via certified mail!!! - that if I did not get the u/s, I would be terminated from the practice. I find the strong arm tactics to be unacceptable. I am the patient and I want to assume the (very small) risk and decline a procedure, then the doctor should respect that. As a professional myself (an attorney), I do realize that it is within a physician's right to choose who they want to provide services to. However, it leaves a very poor impression of this practice - that a patient must do as the doctor says or be shown the door. A better choice would be to ask the patient to sign some kind of waiver. I will also mention, while I am at it, that the other doctor in the practice, Dr. Q, scared the bejeezus out of me causing me panic that I have never felt. It was he who conducted the first ultrasound. At the ultrasound, he pointed out that I have thyroid nodules and discussed the various reasons that the u/s scan looked suspicious and could be cancerous. For weeks, I freaked out that I had cancer and imagined my children motherless. When I finally convinced myself to go in for the biopsy, I was crying.. they asked me why I was so upset - I told them my fears - and THEN they tell me that the chances of it being benign were like 90+ some percent. And that even if it were cancer, it is a very slow moving easy cancer to treat. If Dr. Q had mentioned that at the first u/s appointment, I could have been saved a heck of a lot of anguish. I gave two stars instead of one because Dr K is probably one of the friendliest doctors I've met - and his staff is also very friendly.. cared for my baby even while I got the biopsy. read more

I have sent both my parents to Dr. Qoubaitary for major reviews of their diabetes situation and other endocrinological issues. Doctor Qoubaitary's commmitment to helping them has been amazing. When my father was having major blood sugar problems, Dr. Qoubaitary called several times a day. He is always willing to listen to concerns. He also calls me, even though I am in Connecticut, so I can be aware of what's going on regarding these complex issues involving my parents. I saw Dr. Qoubaitary today and he is great. I am a pre-diabetic who avoids testing because I hate to prick my finger. When Dr. Qoubaitary mentioned a new meter that was supposed to be less painful, I told him I would try it if he tried it first. He did!! That was so cool. He also took the time to opine about how I might've become hypothyroidic. Then, he did an ultrasound of my thyroid -- something none of the half dozen endocrinologists that I've seen in the past ever did. I'm very happy with my choice of doctor and I'd recommend him to anyone with endocrine issues. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kazemi for 4 years. He is highly respected by other doctors in the field of endocrinology for a reason - he is an encyclopedia of knowledge and you can be sure that his recommendations are based on the state of the art approaches in western medicine. That said, he is strictly western medicine - all about numbers in the blood tests and dosages of medicine, combined with physical observations in the western sense. He does not object to holistic or alternative medicine, but you will have to go elsewhere for that type of advice. He does not dive deeply into your lifestyle, diet, etc. to tie in how these things impact your health - but almost no western doctors do this. I still give him 5 stars because I really do value his knowledge, he is top notch and he is also kind and always smiling. And I'm used to having to go to multiple doctors to get "the whole story", and at least he completely fills the western medicine side of the story. My alternative doctor has prescribed yoga and meditation as my illness is linked to stress and she has also recommended nutritional supplements. read more

Dr. Q was the second specialist I was referred to by my primary physician. The first was an absolute joke...Dr. Patel. But that will be explained in another post. Walking into Dr. Q's office in San Ramon was so different from the beginning. The staff actually greeted you with genuine smiles. His nurse was friendly and professional. Dr. Q explained everything to me and answered all my questions. I was explained the results of all my tests Dr. Patel had ordered but never explained. He spent so much time with me, not one time did I feel rushed. So extremely thorough. I honestly prayed to find a good doctor ..my prayers were answered with Dr Q. Another Dr. has recently joined Dr Qoubitary's practice and I asked to see her, since I have not been very comfortable with Dr Q in the past 2 years. I was told that the office policy is not to switch Dr's. There are only 3 Endocrinologists in the Tri-Valley so it is difficult to find the right fit and Diabetes treatment needs to be managed in a comfortable relationship with the Dr. The only option that was offered was to drive 10-15 miles away to see another Dr. in WC or Concord. If I had wanted a Dr. that far away I would have chosen that option 2 years ago, but at that time the only Dr near my home(less than 1 mi away) was Dr. Q. If his ego cannot manage when a patient wants to see his business partner, than that says a great deal about his comfort level in how he manages patients. I'm stuck seeing him, but am not pleased that I cannot see the other Dr in the office in order to get a better fit for me. That seems so wrong! read more

Dr. Qoubaitary is a fantastic doctor! I first went to see him when I was three months pregnant and my thyroid decided to go into overdrive. He helped set it right and make me feel so much better. I went to see Dr. Ammar Qoubaitary. I was treated as if I was interrupting his day. As a first patient appointment, he rushed through a few things without getting a complete picture of why I was there at all. I've been feeling really really sick for a very long time, and I wasn't allowed time to explain some poignant symptoms. He minimized whatever I did tell him and rushed through looking at blood test results that would have given him excellent clues as to why I didn't feel well. Based on the reviews of Dr. Kazemi, his colleague, I thought Dr. Qoubaitary would also be good. He was just too rushed and made me feel like I was completely unimportant and a nuisance. read more

I went to Dr. Quobaitary seeking help for thyroid imbalance and after several visits found his demeanor lacking. On my first visit he was very thorough and nice. I mentioned that he didn't seem to fit the poor reviews he'd gotten on Yelp. NOW I understand why...after the first visit his service was very poor. He'd get up half way through explaining my lab result and stand with his hand on the door, like he was in a hurry and had to leave. He also mentioned I was "one in a stack of piles of patients' paperwork he has to go through everyday"...wow, I felt special--not. He was short with me, impatient and condescending by my last visit. When he forgot to renew my prescription and I realized this just after leaving his office, I had to call and get it refilled...that was the last straw. Now I have a better doctor that takes the time to address my concerns. I have not looked back! read more

I was a patient of Dr Q. Most worst experience with his office and him. I have just seen a new diabetes specialist cause Dr. Q couldn't return my phone call or my primary drs. Phone call. I was alergic to the meds that he had given me. My insurance company had to get involved. I had to get a case manager cause of this whole situation. My case manager and I where both on the whole While she was explaining who she was and she says my name and the girl on the other side starts laughing. Someone else got on the phone and explained everything I was taking and so on. Well She said that dr. Q would call me back. He never did till about two days ago. I had missed the call. Called his office back to cancel my appointment for july. The same girl answered the phone Started laughing again. She said she couldn't find me in the computer. She was a poor excuse for a receptionist. I wasn't the easiest patient being sick the whole time he perscricribed me these meds and so on. I have not been able to leave my house to continue on with my daily routine for months. I have been taken to the er twice cause of me being on the meds and there wasn't nothing they could do. Well we know now that I am alergic to the medicine and I will never be going back to see this quack of a dr again. read more

She acted like it would hurt to answer simple questions, and when I did she slammed her hand down and said 'I'll go ask'! She acted like her face would break if she smiled. I saw Dr. Qoubaitary last year as a new patient for thyroid issues. My primary care had been handling all my dosage adjustments for 3 years prior but never had any explanation for questions I had. I was a little hesistant to see Dr. Qoubaitary based on a few earlier reviews....I was pleasantly suprised! He is fabulous, incredibly patient, kind, informative and allows you to ask questions without feeling rushed. He has since made my adjustments over the phone....made by himself..not an assistant. I am a patient of Dr. Kazemi's and have been seeing him for several years. He is simply the best doctor I have ever had, in any specialty, hands down. He is exponentially easier to get in touch with when the office is not open than any other doctor I know, including often answering his office emails on nights and weekends if he happens to already be on the computer anyway. I have saved many hundreds of dollars by being able to have insulin dosage adjustments made via email instead of having to come in to the office every single time. His bedside manner is exceptional, as several people have mentioned, he makes you feel like you are the only patient he has. His office staff are all warm and friendly and still very professional. It is true that when I first started seeing him I did have to wait over a month for a new patient appointment, but that was mainly because the only other endocrinologist in the area (Dr. Christianson in Pleasanton) had closed up his practice and was no longer seeing patients. Unfortunately, he no longer accepts new patients, but he has added Dr. Qoubaitary to his practice to take these on, and I have every reason to believe that he is just as good as Dr. Kazemi. read more

Being sick isn't such a pleasant experience, as we all know, but knowing a wonderful doctor would definitely change one's views about illness. The reason I say this is because I was referred to such a WONDERFUL doctor by the name of MAHMOOD KAZEMI, who's from Trivalley Endocrinology. Since the first day I stepped in his office, (which is over a year ago) I've always felt as if I'm his only patient! The attention I receive from him and his staff, to include Monique and Leonor, is just overwhelming! Dr. Kazemi calls me personally, which is something not very many doctors do (I know, I work with many doctors being a registered nurse). He calls me anytime and any day regarding my health and is also available to answer my questions via email! If I send him an email, within minutes, he'll respond! Can you say that about your Doctor? Probably not, unless he's Dr. Kazemi! As a patient and a registered nurse, I would definitely recommend Dr. Mahmood Kazemi. Him and his staff are gems in the healthcare field! After seeing two other endocrinologists that all they did for years was check the thyroid levels and adjust the hormones, Dr. Qoubaitary was the first to discover issues with my parathyroid gland.
