I called them at 8AM to see if I could get a car towed from 30 miles away and also have a small repair done. They called me at 3PM to tell me they were done and when I went down there to pay I found out the cost was around half of what I thought it would be. It's nice to know that there are still some businesses that have competent employees and actually give a damn about the customer. read more

I would give zero stars if i could. After waiting 2 hours to be towed, Tri-State Shell decided not to come at all. I spoke with them directly after an hour as my insurance set up the tow to make sure they could bring 2 people in cab. They said they needed an extended cab truck which would cost me $75 more and a longer wait. Plus $10 for tolls. I agreed. After 20 minutes, I called back to say we would prefer the smaller cab for one passenger and the other person would Uber to our destination. Another 30 minutes later, they cancelled. The tow company that did come to tow us, did NOT charge extra for an extended cab and did NOT charge for tolls. Very poorly run business. read more

Shame on you! My 18yo daughter brought her car to you for an inspection. I got a bad vibe from this guy, since literally the day before we had my mechanic do some work on the power steering, and asked him to look it over since she was leaving for college. Mechanic is NY and said the car was good to go...but just needed a PA inspection, hence taking it to this Shell station. You told her she had an issue with her muffler and shocks. You told her the car might not make it very far. Went with my instincts, and decided to take it somewhere else. It passed inspection with flying colors and they said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car. You are disgusting crooks to do this to a young person. DO NOT GO HERE, unless you enjoy being swindled. read more

Driving home to Ohio from the East Coast, my check engine light came on. Of course it was at night and every place was closed. I asked someone at a gas station for a mechanic they would recommend and he suggested Tri State Shell. I'm so glad he did! They got me in first thing in the morning, checked out my car, made sure it was safe to drive and ready to go in no time. He even called me an hour later to make sure everything was OK. Consumer Beware! He will tell you he is AAA approved! I wonder if AAA knows who they are endorsing? You will hear the line because you are a AAA member he will give you a 10% discount on any repair you have done in his shop. Don't fall for it! Anyone who can charge $399.99 to install a starter. Which I looked up on line and only cost $150.00 he charged me $200.00 for the same starter. His Shop is very well kept. My car broke down while in the area for a holiday visit. A fellow 9/11 responder friend who I was visiting said let them take it to repair since they had the tow call from my service and he has seen plenty of local vehicles there for service including agencies. My car was under warranty and they said they do warranty work. I got called two days later and told they didn't have time to do the work because it would require the engine cradle to be removed to access the starter. It became quite clear they had no clue what they were talking about . Even if you follow the procedure for a starter replacement by Audi manual no such part is to be removed. I had to pay to get my car towed to a dealer and charged an hour labor for no work being done. The place is a rip off. Do not trust them for any repairs. If they end up with your tow service call watch them like a hawk. They improperly towed my car in direct contrast to towing procedure for an Audi. As well their gas prices are the worst in the area. I was driving from Massachusetts to Ohio and my front tire sprung a leak. My 2 cans of fix-a-flat didn't work. I happened upon Tri-State Shell after 6p when all the other tire stores were closed. Jimmy replaced my front tires in less than 40 minutes. He was friendly, fast, and did a great job!!! True-State is open until 9pm which is a blessing for drivers like me. Tri-State Shell saved my life! My tire blew out 7 minutes from my destination after a 4 hour drive. It was late and I just wanted my journey to be over. The tire was destroyed and I did not have a spare. My plan in haste was to have AAA tow the car to my destination so I could sort the issue out in the morning. I had already visualized losing most of my day, not to mention a pile of money. Tri-State Shell, the AAA affiliate, had a much better plan for me. They called me and suggested I have the car towed to their shop, and even began the process of replacing the tire. They even arrived on the scene earlier than AAA estimated. They called me first thing in the morning, and it was already finished! Not only that, but once I arrived the gentleman that towed me said hello and helped in any way he could, including answering some questions I had and even checking the tire pressure on the other tires. The price was incredibly reasonable, particularly considering the situation. So instead of wasting my entire day, by 10 am I was already back and better than ever! Phenomenal! My tire blew out on 84 en route to Boston and Will came to pick me up and give me a lift back to the station. I was obviously in a state of nerves and anxiety and the guys here calmed me down and made me feel at home while they took care of my car. (They didn't have my tire but ran out to get me one) James allowed me to use his phone while my phone charged and told me jokes and genuinely put me at ease. I am so lucky to have these guys and this station close by to my situation, they made what was an absolute nightmare into a great experience. read more

The place is clean and well decorated but I get a very bad vibe from the place. I was told it would be 20 bucks for a VIN tracing for a registration. I went to the DMV office and they said they could look at the car and I didn't need a VIN tracing. Then I get coupons in the mail for a $9.99 PA Inspection when the going price is around $31.00 This leads me to believe they will suck you in with a bargain and then nickel and dime you on everything they find. They have a website and a Facebook page. I would rather go to a bunch of filthy grease monkeys in a dingy looking shop that are fair and know what they are doing. I would advise that you avoid this place. I feel they are greedy. read more

I have been a customer for over 8 years and can not say enough good things about them. Even as a loyal customer who has put all his vehicles thru their doors, I was thrilled when they sent a tow truck and mechanic up to Callicoon NY to get me on a weekend when my brake line cracked. They will tell you like it is and give you the option to go with OEM or lesser parts. Went in for an inspection and walked out with 2 new tires, which were crap, and an alignment and a "steering angle reset procedure." We know Pa has crappy roads but I am sitting at another shop today getting those tires replaced--there are 5 bubbles on the outer wall of one and one beginning bubble on the other. They DID NOT RECORD THE IN AND OUT MILEAGE on my bill. In review I estimate that was about 15k ago, so basically the Hercules tires are expected to last 10k to 15k? Not going back again. read more

These people are thieves, they took advantage of my 20 year old daughter by charging her 300. for a 20. dollar part, that took 15 mins to install. Then they failed her car because they said it needed over 600.00 worth of work done. Brought it to another mechanic who passed it no problem and said all they told her was a lie. Honest people BEWARE! Jake and his garage are only out to swindle and take advantage of folk in need! Our car was towed twice by this company--once from where it broke down and the second time to our trustworthy mechanic in NY. Tri State charged us $150 for an hour and half of diagnostics, and preceded to charge a $100 traffic fee to our mechanic upon arrival at his shop. Jake assessed our cars engine to be in bad shape and made the news seem grim, which would have cost us thousands of dollars of work; work that is unnecessary as our mechanic said its a small fix. We are so angry that this company is using terrible situations to swindle people! They should be ashamed and AAA and other motor clubs should cancel their business partnership with Jake and Tri State Shell! read more

Never had a problem with Tri-State Shell. They always try their best to accommodate me and my wife with our 10 year old vehicles. If they are busy, it is because they service a lot of out of state travelers on Rt 84. They are honest, take the time to do the job right and always make it a point to physically show me the issue or potential issue using their diagnostic tools. If you go to a "10-minute" oil change place, who knows what you will get. Some of those mechanics can't even speak English. Tri-State has the best tires, batteries, etc. They are always up to date when it comes to diagnosing a problem using the latest service manuals, manufacturer websites, etc. I would recommend them to anybody I know for any mechanical problem. read more
